brilliant. |
tbh i normally don't tip at restaurants and stuff.
i don't see why tips are basically mandatory and expected. it's not like the janitor was cleaning up dirt, saw your plate of food ready to be served, went and showered, put on clean clothes, and brought it out to you. waiters/waitresses are just doing what they got hired to do, it's not like they're achieving anything that isn't expected of them. sand is pouring out of my vag currently btw |

Servers quite often make more off tips than off their paycheck. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waitress if you ever did that to me while i was waiting on you... if you ever came back in you'd get a big fat **** you written in spit on your food, lol. but seriously... not tipping waitstaff is very rude, in the US at least. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waitress
my brother and his girlfriend work at the same restaurant. they're both 17. they both work equal hours. my brother is a cook, his girlfriend is a waitress. she brings home 4x more than him. and complains when she "only" brings home $100 a night in tips. my dad used to run the restaurant at his golf course. he paid his waitresses good. they complained that they hated working on senior's night because seniors don't tip them "very good". my dad said "i haven't had a tip in the 3 years i've helped out here." |
god chippy, Stop please.
i either buy CD's at Cheapo or at something like amazon.com... but downloading music for free (which wasn't intended to be for free) is for people with sand in their cheapass pussies.
This is probably the dumbest thing I've ever read I've been exposed to way more music by downloading than I ever could have been by buying music alone. Buying CDs is expensive and wasteful. There are plenty of artists around who are fine with music sharing, as they get tons of exposure through it. I'll support them in other ways, thanks. |
tbh i normally don't tip at restaurants and stuff.
keeping in mind that the waitstaff's main source of income is the tips... if you work for someone who doesn't pay you for your work, why bother doing it again? you might argue that we should do away with tips, but that means waitstaff needs to be paid at least minimum wage, which is a major cut into the restaurant's profit, and to maintain the same profit they'd have to raise prices. |
how big is her paycheck, compared to her tips?
oh you mean, how much less does she lose in deductions? or do you mean how much money does she not have to wait 2 weeks to get? she makes $1/hour less than him in wage, and makes atleast $20/hour in tips. the cooks bring home about $5 a night in split tips. and imo cooks do way more work than waiters/waitresses.
he's a manager. he's not supposed to get tips.
no, he's the manager of the entire golf course, and helps out in the kitchen when they're shortstaffed. tbh that's more "going beyond what's expected" than what waitresses do when they bring you plates/cups.
so why don't you tip? i have a hard time believing you always get bad service...
i very rarely get bad service. when i do get bad service, i generally talk to someone about it. i just very rarely get exceptional service that is more than i expect when i walk in to a restaurant. WAITERS/WAITRESSES ARE THERE TO SERVE YOU. THEY TAKE YOUR ORDER, BRING YOU FOOD/DRINKS, TAKE YOUR DISHES, GIVE YOU YOUR BILL. THIS IS THEIR JOB. when was the last time you tipped someone at a shoe store for asking what size you are, bringing you the shoes, taking back the empty box, and ringing you through? or when did you last tip someone at mcdonalds? they ask you what you want, bring you the food (much quicker btw, better "waiting" services than at restaurants), and often pick up after customers? |
actually WAR, a lot of places have banned tips, fast food included, as well as Gas Stations. I remember my friend worked for Safeway Gas and he had to refuse any tip offered, and he got them more often than you think.
Restaurants are about the only establishments that have not banned gratuity. |
they're also about the only establishments that include your gratuity into your bill for you if you're with a large group.
weird how that works out, isn't it? |

i feel bad for servers in canada lmao

why do people tip bellhops? or pizza delivery guys? why were tips invented in the first place?
that's actually an interesting question. hmmmm... i tip at mcD's... though i never go there. x.x i guess, as i understand it, the cultural norm is to tip, and the waitstaff knows of this, so when you don't tip, it says to them either they did something very wrong or you're an asshole. |
why do people tip bellhops? or pizza delivery guys? why were tips invented in the first place?
that's actually an interesting question. hmmmm...
bcuz if u dun tip ppl 4 dong teir job u r bad prsn. nd u hav snd vag. edit: just saw your edited post. the way i see it is the way i see almost every gift-giving system. it started out with good intentions and then started getting manipulated to the point where it has no relevance to it's roots. like birthdays. my friends tell me what they want me to buy them for their birthdays. and my friends stress around christmas because they don't know what gift to get people but they feel the need to buy them something because they're supposed to buy a gift for people at christmas and i ask if it's really a gift if you're supposed to buy it for them. my friends actually used to get mad at me when i didn't buy them anything for their birthdays. they got over it finally, and now i don't have to waste money buying them stuff they don't need. and now they don't buy me anything for my birthday (i'm not complaining), i guess they got over their "i like buying stuff for people, it's about giving not receiving" pretty quickly once they realized they weren't getting anything in return. |

kinda interesting:
http://www.frugallawstudent.com/2007/11/01/why-tip/ this one's just wrong and dumb: http://livingalmostlarge.blogspot.com/2007/10/why-tip.html raising prices won't take away the "Tip jar" -- it'll just raise prices. http://www.queercents.com/2008/02/21/tipping-etiquette-why-do-we-tip/ article's what i think you're thinking, and some of the comments are interesting http://news.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=26&entry_id=17981 sheds a unique light on why putting gratuity on the bill is "bad" -- if it's on the bill, it's taxable. |
ok im 15 and i love music im just gonna listen to the same album for 5 weeks untill i get some moeny

agreed, sir. too spoiled to realize they're spoiled.
OMG I'VE HEARD THIS SONG TWICE ALREADY IN MY LIFE I NEED NEW MUSICS NOW!!! |
idunno, my job is about as much of a "service job" as you can get, but it would be ridiculous of me to be like "umm i helped ur kid with the whole parents-are-failures-and-drugs-are-the-only-way-he-knows-how-to-cope thing, money plz"
a lot of the time if i'm making a bunch of progress with a kid and we're closing i'll let them stay and i'll be there an hour late and i won't even request i get paid for it. it's part of my job description to be there for the kids and that's the least i can do, so the whole "service thing" is bull imo. next time you call a business and the receptionist is helpful make sure to get their paypal so you can wire them a couple bucks. and btw, too spoiled at 15 to spend $20 every couple days on music? umm that doesn't make sense |

nonono, parents don't pay anything for their kids to come to my work. we don't charge anything. at all. it's free service for them. and i don't expect a penny from them. sometimes kids give me a nickel or something if they buy something from the concession, and i take that money and put it in a jar that i give to kids who are a couple cents short of being able to buy something. so i guess that's tips for me, but it's more recycling pennies/nickels. |

this is touchy for me... because as a whole, music is a form of art. i perceive music to be very similar to its literary art cousin the novel. Novels, at least at one time were, written with some sort of theme and/or moral and/or deeper meaning that the reader should get out of it. such meaning usually requires more thought and time than reading the book at face value. Likewise, music (real music) has some form of deeper meaning which the listener has to contemplate and reflect on to truly understand. It's the difference between "listening" to music and just "hearing" it, 'ya know? with kids these days who download a new album or four every day, i seriously doubt they take the album for more than face value or commercial filler. dunno if that makes sense to anyone but me, but it's how i see it. [edit] that's kind of what ADD does, though... if you can't concentrate on it long enough to really analyze and contemplate its meaning, does anything come for more than face value? |
