thanks blanka.

And paranoidd, who do you think think was the best bassist when cliff was alive?
There is no "Best" anything. when are people going to realize that. everyone is in different gendres so they cannot be compared.

btoto 12-07-2004 04:40 PM

Oh, today we had a jam with my band so I played and sang Motorbreath, Mechanix, Jump in the Fire, No Remorse and Phantom Lord. Now I have a sore throat. It was actually not as hard as I thought it'd be. I need to learn these solos though:

Motorbreath (both)
Jump In The Fire (Last)
No Remorse (First)
Phantom Lord (Second)
-------------------------

Kill 'em All is the best 'tallica album ever ! And most headbangable :)

crash002 12-07-2004 04:42 PM

Man, the best met album is the first five.

JACKROXYOU 12-07-2004 09:29 PM

Robert Turillio is brilliant as well(great 5 min solo at the concert I went to) but saying that Cliff owned the bass world is strechin it. dont get me wrong cliff did own, as a songwriter/ riffmaker. but best bass of his time. na

Memories...

And for the record, Metallica was influenced by Maiden. This is in reply to both the noobs in my Maiden FA and also the Best Songs voting thread. Both are great bands, but get your facts straight, please.

Chu 12-08-2004 12:03 AM

Aren't 'Tallica influenced by like Diamond Head too?
Well just NWoBHM in general....

Goodluck with your band :)
I'd like to hear some of your band's work, if possible :)

CALL TO ALL METALLICA FANS URGENT

we must ban together and vote for one song so that it may win the Ultimate Song Poll. there are 3 songs to choose and us divided 3 ways won't stand a chance but together, we will succeed in completing metallica's agenda. i say we should put all our credit into Fade to Black since it is leading right now. please discuss immediately so we can decide on a song to make #1.

Don't thank Blanka, he didn't do anything. I didn't jump all over you, I just made a point. Cliff was a fine bassist, but there is no best of anything, and there are lots of bassists who were better than he was.

mariojenkins 12-08-2004 11:55 AM

Metallica was influenced by a million bands lol...Motorhead was one as well, basically every band they covered for Garage, Inc. plus however many hundreds of bands Cliff got his **** from.
I think Kill 'em All has a Maiden influence, but I don't see it as much in the other albums.

Carn 12-08-2004 11:59 AM

well regarding technical skill, Trujillio is so much better then Burton. Just check out some of his stuff with Infectious Grooves..I`m curious to what he can or will add to the writing process

Depending on the style... For example, Robert's bass solo live is most impressive in the funk category. The guy is a monster when it comes to slapping and such. But in his solo, when he hit the overdrive and went for the fast plucking/ Cliff kind of style, it lacked a whole lot of passion, and much more wasn't near the level to Cliff. He attempted the 3 finger humungo runs like cliff did, but it was covered in dead, missed notes.

I, much like most, cannot WAIT to hear how Rob compliments the writing process...Because...WOw, the guy is amazing.

Ah. Fair enough then.

mariojenkins 12-08-2004 01:46 PM

Yeah the instrumentals were awesome, Call of the Ktulu, hello? Dyer's Eve is pretty sweet, one of my favorites. I was stoked when they played Madison because that was the last song they played, which I have never seen or heard of being played live at all. My list of Metallica favs:
Dyer's Eve
Call of the Ktulu
Phantom Lord
Leper Messiah
Frayed Ends of Sanity
Ride the Lightning (love drumming that song)
and Trapped Under Ice in no particular order

Joe 12-08-2004 02:31 PM

someone was talking about burton and how rob is skillfully better? i agree, it's just cliff was the original metallica

PH03N1X 12-08-2004 02:58 PM

Yeah and so was Dave Mustaine (the guy who kirk replaced), but we dont give a **** about him!! get with the times, sure cliff was original, but he's dead now (RIP). theres none of this 'tis just that cliff was the original' bull****. Hell, no matter how much of the ongoing metallica legacy his memory is apart of, cliff is gone, id even go as far to say that Jason was more metallica than cliff, or maybe not. but i do know that rob rocks now and NOTHING ELSE MATTERS

i'll drink to that - the crazy bass

mariojenkins 12-08-2004 03:15 PM

Lol ok Mustaine contributed to a small portion of very early material. And besides, he went on to form Megadeath, so we all like to give him credit for that. Maybe if he wasn't such a crazy drunk we would be worshipping Mustaine-created Metallica riffs lol.

j_p 12-08-2004 07:02 PM

Ya mustaine did ride the lightning, ktulu, and kill em all. He did have some wicked solos... ride the lightening is in the top 5 for my fac songs.
My top songs.

1. wherever i may roam.
2 no leaf clover.
3 mop
4 ride the lightening
5 creeping death
eye of the beholder is a close 6 but i had to give to creeping death. eotb has some powerful, meaningful lyrics about the d-a-m-n us government

is rob a better bass player than jason newsted?

metal_milita 12-08-2004 09:09 PM

how many people have seen the bass solo by cliff burton in "Cliff 'Em All" where he just plays a jaw dropping solo (fingers no doubt) for about 2 minute?? Because if people can beat THAT solo, im just gonna quit guitaring/bassing(<-word doesn't sound right) forever.
on the other hand, where is this live solo by rob? I've never seen it, but it sounds pretty good. The only problem i have with that guy is the way he walks on stage likes hes trying to take a turd, and his headbanging style. Whats with this side-to-side motion? He's a terrible performer, but an awsome musician. Best performer is obvioulsy Cliff (the only one who did hand actions relateing to songs WHILE playing bass, showed a hell of a lota emotion, pretty neat), but Newsted also comes close because throughout the entire time he was with metallica, he was the only one that truly kicked *** on stage (i would have to argue that he commanded almost as much attention live as james and kirk on stage, which made the band sort of complete). Now, everones givin up on headbangin (due to health reasons no doubt), and i actually feel compelled to turn off the T.V when I see rob perform. With Burton/Newsted, seeing metallica live was so different than today. I almos think that fans see them live just out of respect for the band and to see them play their favorite songs. I don't believe they're accumilating fans because seeing metallica live is still that awsome. I think its the old age....or the lack of alcohol...

boy did I ever drop some hard opinions. don't flame me, metallica rocks and all of its previous/future/present members do also.
