probably because it's people faking trying to sound educated and are flat out wrong
no most people say that because they think it's right |
no most people say that because they think it's right
and they're trying to sound educated by emphasizing a false sense of superiority when they're really saying nonsense |
are you trolling me cuz you're being as dumb as adb
cause he's a linguistics major
not really, linguistics majors actually tend to be more appreciative of improper grammar because we realize that what people perceive as improper is generally just based on usage it annoys me because i know ancient greek and latin and like paul said people who assume that it looks like a latin noun that pluralizes in -i that it is one |
are you trolling me cuz you're being as dumb as adb
No trolling. People think it's right, but it's wrong. People have a bad habit of trying to smugly correct plurals that don't follow the standard rule, and almost every person I've heard say octopi does it with a shit-eating grin thinking they're smart when they have no idea that being a word with Greek origin instaed of Latin they're just showing how dumb they are. |
saw Drive yesterday
was really good, probably my favourite movie of the year I thought it was octopi but don't think that makes me educated that'd be like the same education level as knowing that "sheep" is the plural of "sheep" |

English is a pretty interesting language. I wish I knew more about it (the roots and origins).
|
but yeah fuck people who correct shit like that
the worst is fish and fishes |
but yeah fuck people who correct shit like that
the worst is fish and fishes
I never usually correct someone unless they give me shit for saying octopuses, I explain that it is correct, and they try to give me a grammar lesson. Then shit gets real |
well yeah if they're going to fight might as well fight back
weirdest thing is logic was using or A or B can be A, B or A and B and still be true |

Then shit gets real
lol i love it when people try to correct my grammar |

weirdest thing is logic was using or A or B can be A, B or A and B and still be true
The whole argument was about octopi, not octopuses vs. octopodes. I've had people correct me with Octopuses and when I try to explain it's correct and they don't listen, they get schooled with both correct versions. |
how has this exact situation happened to you multiple times
|
Fuck I have zero motivation to finish this assignment for research methods. It is really simple too.
|
its happened to me multiple times too tbh
guess we just have more intelligent conversations than you |

I really have no idea why |

Preparing a lesson plan for tomorrow, but I keep getting distracted by all the internets.
Also, on the subject of grammar, an English teacher at my internship was trying to explain how to make a simple present sentence into a question to 12 year olds, and he kept coming up with these fucking weird examples like: "he builds a house", which sounds completely retarded. And when a student answered that the question form would be: "is he building a house?" he just said "no" and completely ignored the fact that this 12 year old just understood that the present continuous is the correct tense in this example. Yeah, that's what he wrote on the blackboard too, and stressed that everyone should take notes. |
