People need to stop crying and whining about how metallica are sellouts. if a band tries to make it big, they need album sales, and they cant make that money when 500,000 people download that album instead of paying for it. I dont need to say this, people should just know it and support the **** band if you wanna listen to it. Metallica didn't need the money, but other bands that just come out need that money and when they dont get it, a good band could go to waste because lack of funding. Grow up already, its not hard to support something you love.

I completely 100% agree with you.
Metallica old stuff is awesome but i think that some of there new songs are alright not better than the old songs.
So nice of you to contribute to the 15 year old conversation

I have nothing but respect and support for Metallica and how they dealt with the Napster incident. Only a band with their chops could've done what they did and anyone who considers it "selling out" should ponder the cost of such legal action. Perhaps "paying out" would be a more appropriate term?

People of this opinion are also missing the bigger picture here, as pointed out by Paranoidd and ^Dream~Theater^; if a giant like Metallica had not taken this action, many up-and-comers would suffer as a result - the lack of monetary support for new bands would have resulted in a major hindrance to ALL musical progression.

You may not want to hear this but the music industry is an "industry" and without this corporate, business aspect, most bands would never make it out of their own home towns.

Oh yeah, favourite member = Kirk: excellent guitarist - great speed, technique, plenty of emotion and "feel"

(That last bit is for cai2k :naughty: )
Song: Fuel
Misheard Lyric: Gimme Fuel, gimme fire, gimme donuts on the fire.
Real Lyric: Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire

Wow, just when I thought i've heard them all. On the other hand, Mmmm...donuts.
lol. whenever i first heard it like 6 years ago i thought it was: gimme fuel, gimme five, gimme double on the jive.

I like james better than kirk. He's a more creative... and can make good solos also. He also sings and plays which isn't too easy.

Squirrel 12-06-2004 01:38 PM

James was good at singing and playing, but he pales in comparison to a lot of others now.

motorfist 12-06-2004 01:55 PM

I agree James gets full marks for creativity and has a great ear for a riff, but unfortunately his voice has lost that irresistable growl of his 80s prime. Kirk's still got it all though.

Jason gets my vote in the Past-Member category, however.

Paranoidd 12-06-2004 02:01 PM

I'd take James over Kirk any day. Lead players are a dime a dozen, but a solid rhythm player and singer is hard to find.

motorfist 12-06-2004 02:17 PM

Paranoidd: Lead players are a dime a dozen

Heh, if only. I've had sod-all luck finding one for my own band.

Agreed, Hetfeild also does most of the song writting as well.

Paranoidd 12-06-2004 02:45 PM

Anybody can play scales. Sure, good lead players aren't that common, but everybody wants to be the flashy center of attention lead man.

A solid, precise rhythm player who can compose and play really good melody is hard to come by. Without a good rhythm player, a good lead doesn't matter.

j_p 12-06-2004 06:42 PM

So its agreed. James owns Kirk.

JACKROXYOU 12-06-2004 07:53 PM

yea James owns but he has a very wierd regulrar voice.

he sounded like a little kid when he played live... or is it on purpose?

as for napster. who honestly gives a ****

Cliff 'em All 12-06-2004 09:20 PM

Cliff owns all. Before he died he was probably the best bassist in the world, in my opinion he would be loads better than claypool, whom everybody says is best, if cliff had not died. Cliff could play stuff on bass that some people would struggle to play on guitar. To top it off, he was the most musically trained of the band, and he wrote several large portions of some of the songs' guitar parts, aside from his own bass part. Last, he had the coolest personallity of the group

guitarcreep13 12-06-2004 09:39 PM

Why does James sign his name, 'Jaymz'?

Cliff 'em All 12-06-2004 09:48 PM

Cause he's James godamm Hetfield and he does what he wants

I'd do stupid sh1t like that too if i was hetfield

Cliff 'em All 12-06-2004 09:52 PM

guitarcreep, do you realize that in your avatar, hetfield is playing lefty, did you flip the picture or something?

Huber 12-06-2004 09:52 PM
Cause he's James godamm Hetfield and he does what he wants

Yeah. The guys from the Dickies (no where near the calibur of Metallica, but still have the rockstar attitude) sign there names as penises. I'd sign my name with replaced letters if I could, but the closest thing I can come up with is Berandun.

Cliff 'em All 12-06-2004 09:55 PM

iendal
danlie
nadiel
adniel

sh1t, i give up

Paranoidd 12-07-2004 12:25 AM
Cliff owns all. Before he died he was probably the best bassist in the world,
You may want to edit that, considering he wasn't even close.

Riva 12-07-2004 12:53 AM
You may want to edit that, considering he wasn't even close.
Omgz Steve Harris lolz.

*this from the Maiden fan*

Well, Cliff was quite intelligent, and was very inventive, in the way he combined classical music's technical feel with metal's aggressive attitude.

However, there are some far more technically proficient bassists, and also a few who match his ingenuity.

clown_phobia 12-07-2004 01:54 AM

I'm just wondering - what sort of education did the metallica members get? Did they finish school? Did they get a university education? When did they realise that music (playing in the band) was going to be their career?

Timstar 12-07-2004 04:57 AM
Cliff owns all. Before he died he was probably the best bassist in the world,
Ever heard of Joey DeMaio from Manowar??? guess not otherwise you wouldnt have said that...

j_p 12-07-2004 01:44 PM

I think the asian guy from Dream Theatre is the best bassist. Even though i'm a guitar player and dont know too much about the bass I say this because all the bass players I know say this.

Blanka Flip 12-07-2004 01:56 PM

Jesus, the classic jump all over the guy that likes cliff part of the thread. Cliff may not have been the BEST in the world...Okay. But who can say they are? Cliff was the ONLY person to play the way he did, and if there was someone else, they didn't have the personality, or they just wern't discovered. I don't know... Cliff was amazing for the way he played, one of the only people I've ever heard play the way he does... SO, to alot of people, he is the best.

Blanka Flip 12-07-2004 02:03 PM
Offhand, does anyone know what brand bass cliff used in the later years (like 85-86) I know that earlier he used a rickenbacker 4003. I'm fairly sure its an Ibanez, but not positive. Out of all people, i should know, but i dont
Cliff never played Ibanez. The bass your thinking, (black, one pickup) was a now retired Aria Pro II

mariojenkins 12-07-2004 02:52 PM

lol who the hell cares if cliff was the best as far as technical skills and whatnot. That guy was so awesome lol. He was a lot of the reason behind the melodic parts of the first three (er I guess more of the second two) albums. If Cliff were still around I bet we would be seeing a lot more of that kind of stuff...that and if Bob Rock never came into the picture I think...

Cliff 'em All 12-07-2004 03:22 PM

thanks blanka.

And paranoidd, who do you think think was the best bassist when cliff was alive?
