While we are on the subject of grind, what do people class An Albatross as?

Wow 04-13-2006 06:42 PM
I like Emo Violence more than screamo. I can't see the emotionality in Combatwoundvetern, they just sound like a straight pv/grind to me. But I'm not very good with that genre, not a huge fan of it. Like some bands, hate a lot of the bands.
I agree. That, and they're lame.

where in florida are you guys going?

Not grind, they're s'hit.

cobert 04-13-2006 07:25 PM

Speaking of grind: Me, the kid that used to be on guitar and is now on bass that has little knowledge about music, and my drummer basically accidentally started a grind band without my singer whos a wimp and doesnt want to scream or even sing. Its awesome. We already made 2 songs, and the one begins and sounds like a western movie or something. Pretty much, no writing takes place out of practice, because at practice we just play crazy stuff and say 'oh that sounds cool and/or br00tal, lets put it in a song'. Its awesome.

Well '1) Sex 2) Bird 3) Cake' is a grind album. Its the later stuff thats harder to define.

RetiredAt21 04-13-2006 07:26 PM

That's what me and my friend do all the time in my basement. We've come up with some pretty cool stuff.

EDIT: To Cobert.

Yeah, its awesome. But if i write anything outside of a practice, its goes to my main band, which we might actually get rid of our singer and just make me sing anyways. So basically, same band, 2 different sounds. I'd prefer to keep them seperated because one is all improvised stuff either live or just at practice, and the other is a lot more intricate and melodic.

RetiredAt21 04-13-2006 07:33 PM

What's the other band?
I would say Noise. Anyways, I love em'.
Why?

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 04-13-2006 07:36 PM

Why do I love em' or why do I think they're Noise?

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 07:40 PM

I'm guessing both.
What's the other band?
Post-hardcore, pretty much. As i started to move more towards emo, my singer started to say everything sucked, even though i really dont see why he has any say in anything like that, since he doesnt do anything. I've been writing more things that are really weird and almost mellow (which i have trouble with now since the bassist kid isnt very good. Give him points for trying.) Then, in a lot of stuff for this band, it gets spazzy and screamy or has a huge buildup.
I would disagree with Gav on Off Minor, they are just a sweet emo band with jazz riffs.

But In/Humanity and Combatwoundedveteran could be considered "screamo" if you enjoy using that to classify them. Some might call them grind or powerviolence though. In/Humanity kind of border the line between "screamo" and powerviolence/grind, but yeah. Orchid is probably the most notable band. You've got the right idea.
That's cause I'm good like that.
So, wait, what you're saying is that UnderOATH ain't the total scremotional?!
That breaks my heart.

I've yet to hear Off Minor.. or Malady..

Wow 04-14-2006 03:19 PM

Off Minor are pretty sweet. Good bass. Not really my style, though.

pixiesfanyo 04-14-2006 03:22 PM

Off Minor is the best emo band there is.

I don't see how anyone can't agree.

You need to hear em dude. They are incredibly unique/innovative, just all around awesome. And their lyrics are powerful as hell.

Brain Toad 04-14-2006 03:37 PM

What's a good Off Minor album?

I need to start listening to emo again, I've been on an indie binge lately.

I'd also appreciate recommendations of emo like Cap'n Jazz and Sunny Day, stuff that is softer and more indie influence. Think that's Midwest, but I'm not sure.

deadohiosky9 04-14-2006 03:39 PM

I really enjoy Heat Death of the Universe, but Inominate is just as good. I'd start with one of those two, but their split LP with I Am The Resurrection is just as good.

Yeah Cap n' Jazz type stuff is considered Midwest. I'd recommend Rockets and Blue Lights, Braid, Boy's Life, Bells on Trike, Christie Front Drive, and The Kossabone Red.
