Matt? 04-13-2006 02:52 PM

what was the argument about/ who was involved in owning and being owned?

Wow 04-13-2006 02:52 PM
I'm in Bleeding Hollow =(

I haven't played Wow in around 2 months and yet I still have to pay monthly bills for it
Bleeding Hollow is for OGL scrublets.

StandingStill 04-13-2006 02:53 PM

Screamo.

whiteminority 04-13-2006 02:53 PM

The argument was Neeshee owning Chris. I don't think there was an own but Neeshee has committed some amazing owns in here.

Matt? 04-13-2006 02:54 PM

i was just gonna say, if we're gonna argue about screamo might as well change the name of this thread, but then i noticed it was changed.

for the better.

bottlerocket 04-13-2006 03:22 PM

I don't think it really matters and it was dumb Nick changed it. Who cares?

Emo? Screamo? It's good, whatever it is.

Quick to avoid any trouble Gav
I know I'm late, but whatever.
And this might stir things up, so sorry, its not my intentions..
But Neeshee said that screamo doesn't deserve its name because its just an off-shoot of emo.. but wasn't emo just an off-shoot of hardcore?
yeah I made a really long post about that cause srt-4 brought up the same argument. just go to like page 498ish and you'll see my long as's post.

bottlerocket 04-13-2006 03:38 PM

I'm not saying YOU'RE dumb, Nick, just changing it was dumb. It makes no difference. ;)

<3s 4 Nick

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 03:39 PM

It's changed for the better.

Brain Toad 04-13-2006 03:43 PM

Putting both is kind of redundant anyway, regardless of your opinion on whether screamo is a genre.

It'd be like calling the Community Thread in punk the Punk/Hardcore Community Thread before this forum was created.

SGlove 04-13-2006 04:10 PM
You say "simply because music is a new form of an existing genre...", my point is that screamo is NOT a NEW form of anything. Its just a few bands who took a chaotic approach, my point being that they don't justify a new genre. So because Emo is a new approach/style it justifies being a new genre. Screamo on the other hand is not a revolutionary approach to emo.
So.. then why did Hardcore get a new name?
Isn't Hardcore to Punk as Screamo is to Emo?

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 04:20 PM

No it's not. Modern hardcore bands haven't done anything incredibly different from bands previously in the scene. They haven't taken any sort of drastically new approach to it musically or ethically. Its more of just a continuation, just as Emo today is a continuation of emo then. No new approach has been taken, its the same stuff it just sounds different, cause its an innovative genre, there's room for change musically. Just as hardcore wasn't renamed, emo shouldn't be renamed either. Punk and Hardcore were a bit synonymous back then too. I believe it was Ian Mackeye who said "we are hardcore punks"... or something like that semi-seriously. I hope that answers your question a little better.

bottlerocket 04-13-2006 04:36 PM

I'd say screamo is to emo as jazz fusion is to jazz. It's the same thing, only slightly different but jazz is a very open genre. It's all jazz but you can call something jazz fusion to be a bit more specific.

That's my opinion, anyway. Like I said, it's all emo to me.

-Gav

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 04:41 PM

Yeah that's a good comparison. I would only use screamo to desribe those more chaotic grind/powerviolence driven bands who are also emotionally focused and in the same scene.

SGlove 04-13-2006 05:17 PM

Ok.
Cool.
Thats all.

Bands such as In/Humanity?
What other bands would you recommend that are like them?
Combatwoundedveteran?

bottlerocket 04-13-2006 05:18 PM

I'd call stuff like Off Minor and pg. 99 screamo myself...

-Gav

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 05:48 PM

I would disagree with Gav on Off Minor, they are just a sweet emo band with jazz riffs.

But In/Humanity and Combatwoundedveteran could be considered "screamo" if you enjoy using that to classify them. Some might call them grind or powerviolence though. In/Humanity kind of border the line between "screamo" and powerviolence/grind, but yeah. Orchid is probably the most notable band. You've got the right idea.

Wow 04-13-2006 05:49 PM

Off Minor? Gav, c'mon. You know better.

I guess.

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 05:53 PM

yeah I don't know too much about grind/powerviolence, so you could clarify that stuff with Retired.

bottlerocket 04-13-2006 06:19 PM

Bleh...I'd consider them screamo but whatever.

I'd go with emo with jazz riffs. :thumb:

Speaking of violence, what the hell is "emo violence?" Is that even a real genre? Same with emocore...I mean...what the fuck?

-Gav

Wow 04-13-2006 06:22 PM

It's mocking power violence. Started by In/Humanity. Basically, "screamo" with a funny name.

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 06:23 PM

Emo violence is a joke term coined by In/Humanity and basically refers to the same bands "screamo" refers to. It's not a real genre, its a joke term, but some idiots take it seriously. Emocore is just redundant idiocy. "Emotional emotional hardcore". It's just another made up term.

bottlerocket 04-13-2006 06:24 PM

Awesome...thanks guys. :thumb:

I'm off. I leave for Florida until Wednesday tomorrow morning...so...see all you guys later.

-Gav

deadohiosky9 04-13-2006 06:29 PM

Later Gav. Have fun dude.

Wow 04-13-2006 06:35 PM

I'm going to Florida in 2-3 weeks. Sup sup? Let me know if I should check anything out, Gav.

Brain Toad 04-13-2006 06:38 PM

I like Emo Violence more than screamo. I can't see the emotionality in Combatwoundvetern, they just sound like a straight pv/grind to me. But I'm not very good with that genre, not a huge fan of it. Like some bands, hate a lot of the bands.
