I could do it.
It'd take a lot of lurking. And really whiny bitchy people (amongst the ones I will be in) Praying for it, and going "OMFG i dezrevd rep lol u munstr!!1!"

The idea was supposed to be taken down by Burt because he has pretty much dissed all my other ideas for the forums, so I'd just feel like, I could make a suggestion, and I was going to be pretty happy because it's a really bad idea... But whatever. ... :D

...
P.S. Congrats Jade, but you can't talk about the cereal you just ate here in the S&L community thread. Old, revived idea by Burt.

I think that jades post encourages fellow songwriters and inspires them to be gig, and so is S&L related...

SubtleDagger 09-23-2005 07:37 PM
Burt or any other mod, isn't there a way to encourage people and help the regulars and other users by handing out some rep for good crits/good advise?

That'd only benefit myself and a few other users, like Sloth or people of the kind, but it'd be cool nonetheless. You know, get the job done... Maybe it's just rep whoring, but I lost nothing for asking.
I rep rarely when I think people deserve it. I sure as heck don't do it when I just see a song I like; rep is pretty much reserved for helping me or by posting exceptionally well.

TojesDolan 09-23-2005 07:47 PM

oic

Then I'll just shut the fuck up and try my best out there. :D

Peace out.

SubtleDagger 09-24-2005 03:40 AM

Don't take it hard. I just don't give out rep often because it shouldn;t be easy to come by.

TojesDolan 09-24-2005 03:26 PM

No offence taken.

I know you have to be stern in here because there are a lot of stupid wankers that don't take 5 seconds of their time to read rules or even take a look at their grammar or even to get some commas and periods to make sense.

That's what makes you a great mod, and you know it.

P.S. That wasn't ass kissing, in case you thought it was. It was something out of my head, anyhow. :D

A_Perfect_Sonnet 09-24-2005 03:41 PM

You need to know when to stop.

EDIT: I dunno.

EDIT: El Oh El @ Burt on his Rejected avatar.

Nightvision 09-25-2005 01:40 AM

in other news, 'sup S&L?

I'm aware I owe a few people critiques from a song I posted a while back, and I'm too lazy to check who they are. Let me know if I owe you a critique and I'll get to it. :)

morrissey 09-25-2005 01:51 AM

And I owe you one. I'll get around to all the critiques I owe by the new year.

Nightvision 09-25-2005 01:54 AM

ah... morning Amanda. :)

Meh, at least you're not posting a song a day, every day regardless of quality, not critting and then bumping your song at least once every 20 minutes. :)

morrissey 09-25-2005 01:58 AM

Top o' the morning to you, Jazzy.

Eh I've more or less stopped writing lyrics. And I've stopped reading a lot of the works around here... it might just been backward thinking but it seems like quality has been deteriorating beyond any reconciliable point - you would think that as time goes on, people in general would be improving as writers, yeah? They gain skill, they gain life experience, they learn what works and what doesn't... but the writing around these parts is dismal, on the whole.

Maybe I'm just being too cynical, I don't know. But I don't like much of what I've seen in the first two-thirds of 2005 here.

Nightvision 09-25-2005 02:03 AM

I'd possibly argue that one - I'd say that while the bad n00bs are worse than before, (excluding pegasis!), I've seen a few more newbs that have real genuine talent... the problem is, the bad ones don't crit the good ones, and the experienced writers are too disillusioned with the bad ones to crit the good ones - hence the decent writers get the impression they don't get recognition and stop posting.

TojesDolan 09-25-2005 02:15 AM

new writers worth the reading:

Archimedes
Midnight Hysteria

new Writers who really try:

jade8506...something.
Crimsonpunk

Helpless new writers:

REAL_FOB/ASD/GW_EFFIN_FAN

or something around that line.

Nightvision 09-25-2005 02:20 AM

The first two I hadn't noticed, if I'm honest. *makes note to check them*
Jade is fairly good, and she'll get better with experience.
Crimsonpunk earned my dislike with the nestle threads, but as a songwriter he's not the worst here.

I'll have a quick browse through the first two pages in a minute.

Nightvision 09-25-2005 03:04 AM

There, that's what I've been doing for the past half hour.

I've been fairly tough with my categorising, only putting writers in 'good' if I would happily rate them at least 8/10 for the songs I read. Also, I only put writers in here if I considered them 'new' writers. (either a recent join date or relatively few posts- preferably both)

SubtleDagger 09-25-2005 04:02 AM

Ha, two good writers and a mess of not-so-good writers.

Nightvision 09-25-2005 04:26 AM

yeah, that kind of wrecked my earlier point about there being more half-decent writers recently. :/

atabner 09-25-2005 06:19 AM

Hey Jason, fairly sure I'm in the "owed-a-crit" group :P

If you get a chance that'd be great. Will try and dig out the link.

Welcome back!

Nightvision 09-25-2005 06:21 AM

hey atabner - you're definitely one of the guys I owe a crit. :)

atabner 09-25-2005 06:23 AM

Cool cool - it's Andrew, by the way. As if anyone's likely to remember that :P

Nightvision 09-25-2005 06:29 AM

Cool - there's another name to the list... I WILL know everyone here by their first name sooner or later. :)

pixiesfanyo 09-25-2005 06:39 AM

iz noe 'ow 2 rite.

Nightvision 09-25-2005 06:45 AM

omgzz.... teh gramma nartzee!

xKONRADx 09-26-2005 02:06 AM

just so im clear about everything... would it be cool if i posted a stencil i just made for tshirts? its rage themed. specifically guerrilla radio. i am currently cutting it out, and would post it in another forum, but dont really go anywhere else but here.

hell ill do it anyway, if its a problem ill gladly edit my post.

xKONRADx 09-26-2005 06:28 AM

haha that was large. and i dont think anyone has been in this thread all night so ill just link to my photobucket thing. i have pics of the finished T on there.

metaliq 09-26-2005 02:35 PM

I think that is cool.

Very lyrically inspiring.

TojesDolan 09-26-2005 02:39 PM

It's nice... But it's not about Songwriting and lyrics. I'm sorry for being a party-pooper, but I'd rather follow Burt's rules than messign around with them and getting this thread closed and burnt. Thanks.

 most people assume my name is Herbert. However it is not. Emily's the name.

See! I'm making a conscious effort to try and mingle here more often now :D

SubtleDagger 09-26-2005 02:56 PM

Good on that.

Ha, I don't know a lot of girls who's name's Herbert, though. :p

But yeah, I've seen a lot of better songwriting around. There's loads of bad stuff, sure... But there's a growing... old members comeback. I'm glad. :thumb:

Related to songwriting and lyrics, I watched the movie "Memento" yesterday. Wow, that was a crazy acid trip I had. Anyhow, I would like to know if anyone has read the short story by the director's brother (something...Nolan)... It seems quite interesting.

coheneran 09-28-2005 06:37 PM

y'know that time late at night when the air crackles with inspiration and you have to write? Well it's that time again for me, but I'm listening to Dylan, and I can't write and listen to music at the same time. So I'm gonna have to skip this masterpiece.
I'm not looking for advice, or sympathy, or tough love, I just thought I'd say this.

Quote of the Day:
"Politics is a game, open your eyes and see the real world outside."
Anon.

metaliq 09-28-2005 07:48 PM

This Anon feller has got it down. I would like to converse with him. Plus, his name is cool. I bet people called him Anny.

I sure wish I had some form of inspiration, and I bet I would had I not a lot of psychology homework to do. Stupid homework.

So the new Coheed cd is great. I see them tuesday. Anyone else like it?

... good lyrics ... and stuff.

Has the singer's vocals improved in any way?

I think they are too whiny. In my personal taste.

But then again, I know nothing about them lyrically. Devil in New Jersey is a cool song, though.

metaliq 09-28-2005 10:23 PM

whiney? naw, not whiney.

His vocals are just high. It's an acquired taste. Give it a few listens, then you will hate yourself for it getting stuck in your head.

And what's interesting is... well, they are writing the 4 cds after a comic book series Claudio is writing/wrote. It's pretty crazy and interesting.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 09-28-2005 10:34 PM

Coheed is overrated.

metaliq 09-28-2005 11:20 PM

I wouldnt know.

I like them so I listen to them.

Dancin' Man 09-29-2005 08:59 AM

Howdy folks. Since I've only been in S+L for a bout the alst month, I figure I should find some way to keep my post count on the rise.

EmergencyRoom 09-29-2005 09:24 AM

I've not heard any Coheed songs, whether that be a good or bad thing.

And "Anon" is a genius. He almost has as much to say for himself as "everybody", but he has more truth to his words.

TojesDolan 09-29-2005 02:44 PM

This is not the place to do that, Dancin' man. You can talk about Songwriting, and lyrics, EXCLUSIVELY, Because Burt said so and I don't want this thread deleted because it's filled with spam.

I dislike the rules but they are the rules... so yeah.

I though anon was the default name for the "Ares" p2p?

I can never tell if you are being serious or not and it always makes me rofl
