I don't know why, but when people call Slayer Death Metal... or someone says Slayer is the best Death Metal band, I get really irratated. I don't see death metal much at all in Slayer. I see them as a 100% Thrash Metal band. |
I can see how Hell Awaits is intfluential to death metal, but that's it.
|
I see Slayer as a thrash metal band 100%. Is it true that slayer stands for
Satan laughs as you eternaly rot? |

Yeah I guess I can see that. The drumming and some of the riffs like Necrophiliac.
I see Slayer as a thrash metal band 100%. Butcher is right. They also usd to wear make-up and very tight spandex. :-D

Yeah, I was reading a book on the history of metal. That said that. |
i've become confused on slayer's solos when i hear a very technical solo i think it is hanneman but i look in the booklet and it is really king or vice versa. king has a horrible reputation and i'm confused about how he got it when i hear some of his solos then i hear other and say to myself (yeah, he really does suck).
Im no expert but i would say king is somewhat a "whammybar-ophile". It gets very repetitive. I love slayer but alot of the solos are almost identical soundwise |

The whole of the Show No Mercy inlay is classic. Kerry King looks like such a queer.

yeah i don't see slayer as being death metal. thrash or speed metal is more fitting. then again thrash is better bc alot of their stuff isnt speed metal.
|
south park did that as well.
That's sort of why I get mad, because after that episode with the hippies... people in my class or friends that I have that hadn't heard Slayer would go "Yeah, death metal!" or "Slayer is such a good death metal band" when they'd see me wearing a shirt. But ohwell... |

I bought the collectors edition of Slayer's God Hates Us All today...
So whats up with that fatchick who wanted slayer to f*ck and strangle her? C'mon! I was expecting an interview with the band, and all I get is 23 seconds of a fat bitch? |

He's got a cool stage pressence, but I personally don't think he's that great of a guitarist. But he has written some awesome songs. What's this about?
I can upload the clip, if it's not a copyright voilation (but I'm sure it is). |
I can see how ppl got some death influence from them, but I agree Butcher, Slayer is a thrash band.
I found it hilarious when I read that they had raccoon eyes when the first started out. I wonder if they were going for a sort of power metal thing when they named the band dragonslayer? |
for some reason i can't quite picture Slayer playing power-metal
|
I remember Tom saying in an interview about them wearing make-up and acting like devil-worshippers. He said something along the lines about the make-up that everyband in LA was wearing make-up at the time, but then decided it maded them look girly and not evil.
Westword: You guys originally called yourselves DragonSlayer and wore makeup. Did you think that was scary at the time? Tom Araya: C'mon, dude. We were based out of L.A. Everything that was coming out of L.A. was looking like girls, you know. We were putting on makeup to look like girls. But we wanted to put makeup on like men. So people would say 'Look, that's a guy.'
They probably wanted to be an evil thrash band, and thought that dragonslayer made them sound more good (like I'm going to protect the innocent) and then changed to Slayer to add more of an evil sound to them. Yeah, I couldn't picture them a power metal band either. Here's the interview: http://www.slayersaves.com/interviews_tom2.htm |

Um.......NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........ |

Besides dragonslayer would take too long to scream. DDDDDDDDRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. VS. yeah you can chant slayer awesome. anything past 2 syllables you cant though.
|
Dragonslayer sounds geeky and perfect for a folk band.
Slayer is...perfect for them. |
who do you guys think has been the most talented/most fitting for slayer drummer that has drummed for them in the past?
|
Dave....
|
ditto
|
Dave...by far. No other slayer drummer even came close to comparing with him.
|
Paul Bostaph did more technical stuff than Dave Lombardo, but Dave is the best suited for Slayer.
|
Did anyone see Slayer at download this yea?. During Angel of Death, that double bass fill after the solos, OMFG he held that for literally about 10 secs perfectly, it was fukkin incredible.

During Reign in blood when Dave does the double bass fill He dosen't do It that long. Wow 10 seconds thats tough. |

Yeah I'd agree on that. I know someone who's a very good drummer in a local metal band who thinks Paul was better than Dave. Some of his work was great, like on Disciple. But you can't beat Dave's double bass - like when they play Angel of Death live after the solos where everything but the bass drums cuts out, he keeps it going for about 10 seconds. When I first saw him do that I was like WHOA!
Did anyone see Slayer at download this yea?. I'd seen him do it last year in Birmingham as well though. |

I didn't see them at the Download Festival but when I did see them, he did the drum fill, but not actually that long, maybe a few seconds longer than the studio recording. |

If you have audio can you email it to me? |
