Grey Incision 01-21-2005 05:35 AM

the good old Opeth sound ;)

the occult BM album thingy isn't going to happen, of witch I'm glad

The Flabbit Rides High 01-22-2005 07:11 AM

In that case im glad to.

There are 2 things of which im afraid. Either Opeth goes comercial, or Opeth goes Evil Black metal.

we all know the one isn't going to happen so yeah, im glad.

I don't know if you typed "witch" rather than "which" on purpose or not, but in regards to the subject matter...f'kin brilliant.

Kreator2112 01-22-2005 11:26 AM

orchid is one of my favorite opeth albums

actually it was a typo, but it looks good in the sentence anyway :p

long live Opeth!

Stevie 01-22-2005 03:08 PM

DO you think Opeth is better live or studio? I have only heard Opeth live through Lamentations, though i do find it to be beautiful. I'm listening to In My Time of Need, great stuff. I love mah Opeth!!!!

Magicaltroll 01-22-2005 03:31 PM

can anyone here play the solo in Black Rose Immortal around 16:30? im gonna try and learn it in a bit.

just wondering :D

opeth_oasis 01-23-2005 04:03 AM

Its in Parramatta  (my home town) . Yes it is very difficult to find Orchid in Australia, i had to take the train to Canberra to find it, got the last copy :D

4130 01-23-2005 07:36 AM

Difficult? Seven copies in one store is not difficult, maybe JB just kicks major ***. Or you meant just in sydney not in australia.

Difficult = 6 months of unsuccessful attempts to get any Opeth album in my town. I'm glad I'm moving soon...

jamesclelland 01-23-2005 11:44 AM

quick question, i just got into opeth and i'm trying to learn stuff from deliverance and i'm wondering if you guys know any tricks. i can do the screwy time sigs, but i used to playing tool. so any tips and opeth guitar would help. thanks, sorry for the newby sounding post.

Dimebag Johnny Patton 01-23-2005 02:08 PM

I have a trick i use when playing Opeth songs, i guess it's something that develops over studying their peices a lot. There are a lot of similarities in the chords and arpeggio's Mikael/Peter play. (except ****ation album) The solo's are generally derived from scales, so just practice scale work, and it helps to play a lot. Also the melodies that are played, are generally fairly easy, so you should learn those first, to get the feel of the song.

Please, fellow Opeth fans, this is just my perception of their music and the way their songs (the ones which i have attempted) are played.

what are your thoughts on last track on deliverance- by the pain i see in others? I think its one of the most experimental tracks that i have ever heard, has its moments though.

bucket 01-25-2005 01:14 PM

I used to be obsessed with that and Master's Apprentice, but lately it's been Orchid for me.

Does anyone have a powertab for The Twilight is my robe or The Apostle in Triumph?

deeps 01-25-2005 01:48 PM

sorry I don't have much time to search through the whole thread but I was wondering which cd you guys would recomend that has as mush of their softer accustic stuff as possible. I've become rather obsessed with it lately and I'm leaving for the mall soon

thx in advance

****ation is all soft, and outside of that Still Life has the most.

I had a hard time getting in to this track, because it is, as you stated their most experimental work.
but I really like it now.
although, Mikeal's vocals are a bit unfitting, they just sound, different than normal.
but the lyrics to the song are amazing.
and I love the scary paino music.

as far as the last few minutes of the track go.
I like the parts where Mikeal starts singing for a few seconds, but it's just a few seconds :(
if the outro was filled with more of that singing, it would be awesome, but it's a experimental song.

Dimebag Johnny Patton 01-25-2005 04:39 PM

I remember someone here saying the singer is 16 years old, I thought it was rather weird since they have been releasing albums since 1995 so I checked their official site (www.opeth.com) There it says he is 30!

Someone else also pointed out that he couldn't find Opeth lyrics anywhere not even on darklyrics, but here they are: www.darklyrics.com/o/opeth.html

He was 16 when the band started, maybe that's somehow what he was referring to
