We seriously need to get started and I cant start before theres drums otherwise the whole thing will be outta time.

Shall we use midi?
Why not just play along to the original? That way, everyone's in sync.

Skit 07-16-2005 02:19 AM

Because its hard to write drums to the original, The guitars/bass/vocals would be fine that was but they wouldnt match the drums.

Mr. Black 07-17-2005 03:11 AM

Anybody know what nationality these guys actually are, cos the names seem a bit european to me

blackout 07-17-2005 04:39 AM

They're from the Armenian part of LA or California or something.

blackout 07-17-2005 04:45 AM
I have organised us a band, kinda:

Lord Abortion: Vocals
Dr. Jake Destructo: Guitar
Skit: Bass
Skit?: Drum Machine
Huh? I thought I was doing guitar? Ah well :upset:

Skit 07-17-2005 06:55 AM

I couldnt get the bass done today but heres the drums.
(I told you I would only be able to midi drums)

Violent Pornography: http://s50.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3IQROSDL34KKT3TK840TY2UTPC

Feel free to add guitar to them, But keep a seperate guitar track for the mixing.

PepsiMetal 07-17-2005 07:00 AM

I like the drum track for violent pornography, but I didnt listen to the others. It is midi like you said, so it's not as good as normal drums, but it's still great.

PepsiMetal 07-17-2005 07:01 AM
Anybody know what nationality these guys actually are, cos the names seem a bit european to me
They have armenian backgrounds, but they were all born/raised in los angeles. Or at least daron and serj are both from la.

WOW 2nd time I double posted. I'll keep the count.

Skit 07-17-2005 07:02 AM

Unfortunatly its very hard to find a real drummer who can/will record drums so you have to settle for midi.

If a drummer comes along and wants to record feel free :thumb:

blackout 07-17-2005 08:59 AM

Nice one skit, I'll probably have a go at VP and soil tomorrow, I'm trying to get my own cover of toxicity done today.

If you find the time, could you maybe make a drum track for This Cocaine or Know? I've been looking for one online but they're proving quite hard to find.

They don't sound Europeon at all. They sound Asian which is where they are from.

blackout 07-17-2005 11:32 AM

Skit, If I upload Fruity loops and Drumkit From hell, would you be able to use them to make the drums? Just thinking it would sound better.

Skit 07-18-2005 09:08 AM

^
I'd like to, But I dont think, I'd be able to learn to use them, I hear theere quite difficult.

Haha, I've had the program for weeks and I'm still clueless as to how ot make a complete song. I can put in the patterns and the tempo fine, but i don't know how to set that out in a structure and time limit, rather than just a loop.

sweet where?

grungeboygtr 07-19-2005 08:41 PM
I can respect your opinion but Serj is definatly a talented vocalist.
id say hes more talented then many singers today but compared to Plant, Mercury, even Vedder hes only par...i shouldnt have said hes crap just not as good a musican as the drummer and the guitarist...how ever i stand by what i said about shavo

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-19-2005 09:14 PM

I would the overall talent of each member like so:

Serj Tankian- Great lyricist, very wide vocal range. Very original
John Dolmayan- Fairly good drummer as far as modern rock goes. Plus, he can write some cool little drum fills.
Daron Malakian- There is nothing special about his guitar playing. Most of his riffs are just powerchords churned out as fast as possible without alt. picking. On Mezmerize, he did incorporate more unique scales to create some cooler exotic-sounding riffs in Radio/Video
Shavo Odadjin- This man is just there because he has cool facial hair. He is hardly ever heard, and when he is, he is just following the guitar.

You think that's the first time he ever used "unique scales?" Aren't you a little curious as to why everyone praises the first album so much? It's the Eastern riffs man!

Personnally, i think John a bit better than just fairly good. A lot of the stuff he does doesn't sound hard, but really is.

For example, the Revenga chorus. Sounds simple enough, right? He's actually playing two completely differnt beats at the same (one with the left hand, one with the right). Very hard to do as you're using two very different timings at the same time. <--Indirect quote from my friend who's a drummer.

Also, Daron is the main lyricist now. And as a guitarist myself, I think his writing is fairly interesting and unique, even if it is mostly based around powerchords.

But thats just my opinion.

well all i have to Say is that i think this is all true. but just my opinion. Serj rocks! Daron has his own style. Shavo just looks kool and he's just like any other bass player. and John does play good! well THEY ALL ROCK :naughty:

disagree about john. right when i started drums i loved soad and the first song i learned was sugar and spiders soon after that.. and he amazed me, especially live. he plays sugar so much different live and it sounds soo good. and daron rights some sweet stuff too, i mean some solos are hard.. otherwise i agree.. thats my opinion

ps- Ill try to record like next time i go over to my friends house, its just weve been practicing at my guitarists house alot lately since we have a gig coming up in less than a week.

Agreed.
John Dolmayan- Fairly good drummer as far as modern rock goes. Plus, he can write some cool little drum fills.
I like his drumming alot. He doesn't just use simple beats. I like his use of the little cymbals and that bell or whatever it is he uses live. It adds more originality to the songs imo.
Daron Malakian- There is nothing special about his guitar playing. Most of his riffs are just powerchords churned out as fast as possible without alt. picking. Agreed. Daron is an above average guitarist, and most of his riffs have used powerchords most of the time. Although he has started to expand a little more like you pointed out in radio/video. Also he has added nice intros to most songs.
Shavo Odadjin- This man is just there because he has cool facial hair. He is hardly ever heard, and when he is, he is just following the guitar.
Agreed. Shavo is barely ever heard, and he's an ok bassist I guess. He is heard in psycho although nothing impressive as far as the bass goes.
