I like Fu Manchu, but the songs all seem to blend together. Except Evil Eye of course because it was drilled into my ears all through childhood.

Kyle 06-25-2006 12:05 PM

Yeah, that's why I can only listen to them in phases. They don't quite have the variation of some other stoner bands who will go into jam phases, but they rock a whole lot harder than most. It's all about King of the Road!

Smackers 06-25-2006 05:31 PM

The only one I ever cared for was California Crossing, but then again, I've only heard a few.

ATM 06-25-2006 06:00 PM
I don't really mind the vocals at all, I mean it's not really singing, but the laid back style kinda suits the music. I'll upload some Fu Manchu in one of the mailing lists if you're in any?
Im in the Alt/indie one. I got deleted from the rock/metal one :-/
I have become interested in doom via Reverend Bizarre, as I love every single one of their songs, so can people recommend bands similar to them?
St Vitus
Warning
Orodruin
Pentagram

Phototropic 06-26-2006 05:07 AM

You guys need to check out this band for me and tell me what you think, I absoloutely love them, favourite band no contest

http://www.myspace.com/bombthesun

They are local and they have an album which is absoloute stoner genius (Flows like no other) so if you guys like the stuff I'll upload it for you

Kyle 06-26-2006 06:09 AM

Apparantly Swansea has a tight music scene, that band The Screamin' Eagles and The Buffalo Kings are pretty sweet too. I'll probably be at uni there next year (assuming I don't get into Cardiff), so all this music is making be pretty happy.

Anyways good stuff, would be cool if you could upload it.

Bartender 06-26-2006 09:30 AM

Sorry to bring yet more stoner into a thread that's lacking enough in doom as it is, but is anyone here familiar with Mannhai? I read a good review for their debut album when it was released back in 2001, so I downloaded a couple of tracks, loved them, couldn't find the album anywhere and eventually lost interest. Finally bought it (Amazon marketplace) about twenty minutes ago. Dug up the songs too, and they're about as good as I remember.

Werny 06-26-2006 11:55 AM

Esoteric's Epistemological Despondency is one damn trippy album. I love it! It has that lo-fi sludge of Stormcrowfleet and all of these bad acid trip samples...aaaah glorious.

I suppose this question could start some discussion in here; when you listen to really trippy bands, or just stoner bands, do you feel like doing drugs (if you're not already)? I used to be really against drugs, even saying that if I saw one of my friends with illegal drugs I'd report them, but after I got Dopethrone and got into all of the sludge, stoner and funeral doom I have suddenly developed this craving for everything brain-melting and am now very "legalise it!" So yeah, has this music had the same effect on anyone else?

Kyle 06-26-2006 01:24 PM

I feel like I should be saying no, and calling you stupid, but Stoner Rock has always had a similar effect on me. I don't know why exactly, but the experience of listening to it just seems to be amplified by drugs. I don't really like getting mixed up in all that on a regular basis though, I get just as big a thrill out of driving to it.

That's some good ****, I'd like an upload

ATM 06-26-2006 05:18 PM

Thats the only one I have, and I love it.

Kyle 06-27-2006 02:38 AM
Awesome album definitly their best.
Really got into that this week, cheers for the upload.

Werny 06-27-2006 05:00 AM

I like Let Us Prey better. Dopethrone just has too many parts that have inaudible guitar, like most of the title track and I, Witchfinder.

Kyle 06-27-2006 05:23 AM

Yeah Let Us Prey is my favorite too, but I've always liked more upbeat stuff.

the2stranger 06-27-2006 05:44 AM

Thanks for this.
But if I were you I'd remove it from your psot and just assk the people to give their email adresses.
You aren't allowed to post copyrighted stuff ( assume this is)

You're a champ for uploading this though!

AA-12 06-27-2006 05:45 AM

I doubt it's RIAA covered.

AA-12 06-27-2006 05:52 AM

How's the production?

Phototropic 06-27-2006 06:03 AM

Great stuff, they did it at Sonic One which is probably the best studio in South Wales

Werny 06-27-2006 06:25 AM
Yeah Let Us Prey is my favorite too, but I've always liked more upbeat stuff.
That didn't make sense to me, are you saying Let Us Prey or Dopethrone is more up-beat? Or neither?

One thing I love about Let Us Prey is how the drums sound. I know their drummer is probably the worst ever but he does some cool stuff on that album and yeah, they're produced well.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-27-2006 06:29 AM

I got the Reverend Bizarre/Orodruin split today. Great stuff.

I guess I feel like I should like Dopethrone more, because it's the one everyone raves about, and that must be why I said 'but'.

My third favourite album ever. :thumb:

AA-12 06-27-2006 09:03 AM

It's fantastic.

That's a great slab of metallic vinyl! I particularly love the Orodruin side.

Kyle 06-27-2006 04:10 PM

I did, I'm gonna listen tomorrow, after my final exam.
