are you talking about the first practice with the band?

guns_of_brixton 03-02-2005 09:28 PM

No, the part in Westway when Joe was talking about when he first saw them.

Coma_Girl 03-02-2005 09:29 PM
well at a gig in germany...
in the song midnight jam on streetcore joe says:
"name every jail in germany, i've been there while touring with the band" or something along those lines.

he died before he finished the vocals for this song, so there's no lyrics, just parts of joe talking that they took in the radio show he used to host (London Calling). The song starts with "this is london calling..calling...calling".The echo is really cool.

CombatRock 03-02-2005 09:31 PM

i need to get me a mescaleros cd!!

guns_of_brixton 03-02-2005 09:33 PM

Since this is my 666th post, I'd like to comment on how evil Terry Chimes (Lamborghini guy  ) is. Good night, and long live the Strummer thread!

Coma_Girl 03-02-2005 09:40 PM
For some reason that story makes me think of Joe talking about wanting to punch Mick and then run for it when he first saw Mick and Paul.
when i listen to westway with the french subtitles, it says (the traslation of what it says in french):
"and yeah...i thought i'd punch joe first...'" instead of "..mick first.." and it's joe talking...

whats everyones fav instrumentilist (sp) in the clash

mine would be paul....i llllllllooooovvveee his basssss llliinnes

Coma_Girl 03-02-2005 10:05 PM

it's because you're a bass player  but yeah, the bass is awesome

honestly, my favorite part in the clash is the lyrics. (must be cause i'm a writer heh?)

they were all good at their instruments.topper was a really good drummer.mick an awesome guitarist and paul and awesome bass player.joe's voice is the greatest and same for his lyrics.

TheNowhereman42 03-02-2005 10:08 PM

I wouldn't nessecarily call them good talent wise, just writing wise.

Bit like The Beatles, none of their stuff was hard technically, just really well written

CombatRock 03-02-2005 10:11 PM

yea..difficutly dosent mean a thing if it doesnt sound good..

i love topper when he is playing the clampdown live on dvd..when joe gets up and stands next to the drums..its such a cool beat

white_riot 03-03-2005 03:15 PM

CombatRock 03-03-2005 03:19 PM

guns_of_brixton 03-03-2005 03:26 PM

My favorit instumentalist in the Clash was Paul. Paul rules :D.

white_riot 03-03-2005 03:31 PM

WorryRocker921 03-03-2005 04:03 PM

Well I think they all were great instumentalists but I love Paul the best simply because I'm a bassist myself. I also love all of the lyrics of Joe and Mick. Oh, they just rock at everything.

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 06:38 PM

Paul fucking rules.

:: plays Brand New Cadillac bass line ::

WorryRocker921 03-03-2005 06:53 PM

I play that song all the time I think it botheres the guys in my band.

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 06:59 PM

CombatRock 03-03-2005 07:30 PM

im not much into that song...rudi cant fail has a sweet bass line in it

guns_of_brixton 03-03-2005 08:10 PM

Brand New Cadillac guitar part> Brand New Cadillac bassline, but both are great. Has anyone heard the original, which I believe is by Vince Taylor.

CombatRock 03-03-2005 08:41 PM

nope..infact i have never heard of vince taylor

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 09:23 PM

according to windows media player, it was indeed composed by vince taylor

CombatRock 03-03-2005 09:32 PM

cool, wonder what the orginal version sounds like?

Forest_Fire 03-03-2005 09:34 PM

i dont't know, i looked up the clash on allmusic, and under the "performed music by" section there was his name, so i clicked on it. however, i didnt find a song named anything close to "Brand new Cadillac" and it didnt have any sound files for him anyway
