I haven't seen them live.

Bazarov 09-04-2005 12:24 AM

You are missing out. I'd recomend a Slayer concert to people who aren't even fans because if you have floor tickets and are down with all the other crazed loonies, it's just a whole different expierence.

heavy metal kid 09-04-2005 12:24 AM
So, who here has been to a Slayer concert? I have, and the energy and atmosphere was just so intense, I know for sure I will see them every time they come to my city.
I have never been in a Slayer concert, i wish i could go, i just bought the still reining dvd, it show how the fans "bleed" for slayer, i'll bet their mosh pit is awesome.

Bazarov 09-04-2005 12:30 AM

You live in Tecate right? I forget, or maybe you aren't who I think you are. But you missed them in SD last December. I went to the edge of a pit while they were playing South of Heaven, I didn't feel manly enough to go in. Seriously people were coming out with bloodied faces at the end of the show.

heavy metal kid 09-04-2005 12:33 AM

i live in Tijuana, and yes i missed them on december last year, i was a little short on cash.
I also would think twice before joining a slayer mosh pit, it's just sick. Besides i could miss the show.

I saw them on the last day of their Jagermeister Music Tour last year. They kicked my *** over and over.

It was just that great. Much better than Ozzfest. :D

Apocalyptic Raids 09-04-2005 02:15 AM

I want to see Slayer :(

Last time they were here was around 2002 I think.

Man that sucks, that's like me and suffocation they haven't been to SD in like 6 years and they're coming here to do a show but I highly doubt I will be seeing their show. Where do you live?

superflyjojo 09-04-2005 08:33 PM

Does anyone know if Slayer is planning a tour anytime soon?

Bazarov 09-04-2005 08:36 PM

Not that I'm aware of, after they finished the JaegerTour and some European Festival they said they were going to be spending time in studio. So it'll most likely be quite a few months before they tour again.

wicked_child 09-04-2005 08:38 PM

i want to hear it. but i prefer the old stuffs. atleast in the newer albums, you can hear tom's bass.

superflyjojo 09-04-2005 08:41 PM

I saw Slayer last year in Jersey, and I need to see them again. They are one of the best live bands.

Actually in Hell Awaits the bass is very audible. Which is another reason why I love it. Even though I'm a guitar man, I love it when I can hear bass, or when a band stops and you can hear a sick bass line.

agreed, you slowely start to not hear the bass as the years go on with slayer.

What do you guys thinks of Tom on bass, I haven't heard any thing to crazy from him but what do you think of it.

He doesn't have many audible lines, but he plays crazy, just check the lines on Raining Blood, they are pretty difficult.
What do you guys thinks of Tom on bass, I haven't heard any thing to crazy from him but what do you think of it.
well honestly hes not that bad because alot of the stuff he plays is almost the same as jeff and kerry. some of the stuff is really easy but other stuff can be pretty hard like on raining blood the really fast part the 216BPM 16th notes is really ****in hard. but maybe is tom changed his style slayer wouldnt be the same, because me band does a alot of slayer covers and when they play without the bass it really sounds different. when there playin a main riff using polm mutes and the bass isnt there backing it up it doesnt sound as heavy. so u never know maybe slayer is better off havin bass lines like that.

rippa32 09-06-2005 05:20 AM

Im only a n00b when it comes to slayer, in fact I didn't really listen to them until last week. I got a mix CD from my friend, Black Magic is my favourite song, is all the songs off that album good?

Also I noticed the drumming is VERY fast whereas the guitars play at a pretty ordinary trash metal speed. I couldnt hear the bass all that well though. Does he play along with the guitars or does he play at about the same speed as the drummer?

I'll tell you just like Butcher told me. If you want to hear some great slayer, buy Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood, South of Heaven in that order. Listen and become very addicted. :thumb:

Black Magic is off the album Show No Mercy and yes, they are all just as good as Black Magic.

Hell Awaits is my personal favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of the first 4-5 albums
What do you guys thinks of Tom on bass, I haven't heard any thing to crazy from him but what do you think of it.
Tom is pretty good on bass IMO. He doesn't really have very difficult melodic lines but he does work as hard as Jeff or Kerry. In fact he works harder as he is also the singer. I play guitar and I absolutely CANNOT sing while playing their fast and hard stuff. (ie raining blood, hell awaits, etc.) Props go to Tom for that one.

I think the thing that I like most about tom is his personality when he is on stage. He acts like he is just one step from killing somebody, or like he's possessed by a demon or something. It's so sick.

FatalEnergy 09-06-2005 07:33 PM

Tom actually had some decent bass lines on Hell Awaits. Listen to Crypts of Eternity or At Dawn They Sleep. It's really the only time in Slayer's history that he actually shown he could play bass. Overall, he's not bad, he just dosen't do much. I agree with what was said above, he's got a great stage presence and ......used to have a good voice. Well, it's still good live at least.

nontie69 09-06-2005 08:35 PM

yeah like i said before slayer isnt the same without toms bass lines, it sounds so different without them, when im playin with my band and im not playin bass and there playin a song alone it doesnt sound as heavy without the bass.

MRDuCran 09-06-2005 08:42 PM

I've seen Slayer live twice and without Toms bass, Raining Bllod wouldn't sound so good. I didn't know that he hits the open E on every tom hit that Dave does in the intro until then.

Sleepy 09-06-2005 09:19 PM

Raining Blood is my cell phone ringtone :) Awesome stuff.

lightningmetal666 09-09-2005 03:08 PM

I'm trying to get the slayer riff by riff book. Is it any good? Also does anyone know where I can get the hell awaits guitar book? I think all of their books are out of print.

Same here

lightningmetal666 09-09-2005 03:19 PM

I wish I had a cell phone. I don't really have anyone to call so I guess I don't need one.
That would be cool though, have raining blood or dead skin mask play while you're just chillin'.
