Glad I could be of help. Riva, I added this to subscribed threads (originally only the cr thread), so I'll be checkin here all the time.
When you guys were talking about the 2001/Echoes synch, you meant just the song right? At the time, I kept thinking you meant synching Meddle, not just a single song. |
MY favorite Wall lyric:
"There must be some mistake/I didn't mean to let them take away my soul/Am I too old?/Is it too late?" I just like the entire presentation of that line in the song. |
I discovered this while reading about Animals last night. Might be of use.
http://www.ingsoc.com/waters/personal/animals.html
Thanks :thumb: Even though it apparently isn't about one of my favorite books, it's still one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums. |
I think the funny thing about that link is the page is titled ingsoc.com. Not sure whether that is good or bad.

Floyd kiks ***. im not sure wat the creepyest song is, but the dreamiest is prolbably julia dream on the echoes album, which is a hella good album. Stoner music all the way! (especailly if ur stoned)

Creepiest song, I'd say "Dogs." Trippy. |
The Echoes synch is for Echoes only. I'm pretty sure the rest of the album doesn't fit in.
And way to suck the enjoyment outta the song for me, Med. Now I'm going to feel depressed everytime I listen to it... :p For me, the creepiest song is Waiting For The Worms. |
I enjoy all of The Wall, from beginning to end. 'Tis a rich tapestry, with each thread as worthy as the last of attention and love.
Although I despise horror movies/thrillers, I love all forms of music, whether it be horrifying, angry or happy. |
I'd have to say either The Trial or Flaming were the trippiest to me.
|
Hey did you guys see Saturday Night Live The band did a re make of comfortablly numb that was bull I think my favorite part of the movie is waiting for the worms not for the song but for the animation as well
|
The freakiest part of the movie was when Goodbye Blue Sky plays. The whole image of the bird ripping the city out of the ground and the blood and gore underneath is just strange and somewhat disturbing.
|
Med, how could you! I love that song. Is There Anybody Out There is is a gloomy song, but it's wonderful. I love it. The guitar playing is hauntingly beautiful and fits perfectly. Although I'd say the freakiest part of the movie in a lot of ways was when Pink shaved himself completely. Especially since that wasn't even scripted... Bob Geldof just got so into the character that he did it because he thought it felt "right." Apparently Syd Barrett's ex started crying when she saw that scene, because it reminded her so much of how Syd was.
|
The 2001/Echoes synch is the trippiest thing of all time. Theres a big story behind it too. But I already posted a big thing on it, so I won't get into it again.

I don't know about the interpretations. The song was in fact written to go along with this sequence of the movie, but it was just written enhance it. I think. Like I said, I posted the entire story on it awhile back. I might find it. |
Well.. that wasn't too hard to find.
Has anyone ever did Echoes with 2001 A Space Odessey (sp?) ? It's awesome. If you haven't done it, and are a fan of the Wizard of Oz with DSOTM, you'll definitly like this one way more. Simply start playing Echoes when the last part of 2001 comes on. I believe it's called "Jupiter and Beyond". The story behind Echoes is Stanley Kubrick asked Pink Floyd to write a song for this part of the movie, to kind of go along with the last scene. (trippiest scene of all-time) Dave wanted to, Roger didn't, so it didn't happen. After seeing the movie and it's success, Roger regreted not writing a song. They wrote a song, not insync with the last scene (I don't think, but it goes along with it so perfectly that it's creepy). Thus, Echoes. :thumb:
|
When do you start to play Echoes though?
*is to lazy to look for the answer himself* |
When the scene "Jupiter and Beyond" starts, just start playing the song. You may not notice much in synch for a little bit, but once the intensity of the scene and the music picks up, it gets pretty crazy.
|
Hmm... time for me to get a copy of 2001. I really wanna try this out.
|
Sounds pretty interesting to me...ill try it if i have the chance. DSOTM worked well with The wizard of Oz...but id like to see this, even though ive never watched or had a clue what 2001 is about, but its not Floyd couldnt inform me about in a simple song
|
It's definitly worth it. Once you understand 2001, at least to an extent, (I don't think anyone fully understands it) it is an amazing movie as well. Kubrick was brilliant.
http://www.kubrick2001.com/ That's neat to watch to get a better understanding. |
I agree, Comfortably Numb sounds great live on Delicate Sound of Thunder. As far as the most haunting lyrics go, listen for subliminal messages, those will give you 20x the feeling.
|
Watch 2001 before trying the synch. That movie is crazy. Apparently the book is really crazy too, but I haven't read it.
|
well, ive seen up to the II part...pretty weird. Maybe Ill rent it next weekend or something. Any specific kind of edition to use? I know the Wizard of Oz is recomended the 50th anniversary DVD...but ill probably watch this one first.
Im guessing itll need to be muted, echoes will have to start at Jupiter and Beyond scene (whcih the DVD might specify), and hopefully wont have to be looped over and over again. Im gonna go eat a Big Mac now, but i might check back to watch the rest of that weird clip. Its sorta hard to follow when its confusing enough as it is, but ive never seen the movie at all |
The movie is really really weird. I gotta rent it and try this out.
|
Does anyone know the concept for Wish You Were Here? I'm kind of picking up on a connection between the songs but i'm not exactly sure.

I never knew there was one, I read they were just about Syd and also how Roger started to disslike the music industry. |
Basically what Med said. I noticed the Syd and Music Industry themes, but I'm not sure how they relate to each other.
|
Basically, the entire album is about the trials Syd went through.
Wish You Were Here and Shine On You Crazy Diamond were all about his mental health, and Welcome To The Machine and Have A Cigar are about the music industry compounding Syd's state of mind. Med has hit the nail right on the head. |
I love Wish You Were Here. Definently my favorite album. The whole thing is so instrumentally and lyrically right, it just all fits together to create, in my opinion, Floyd's best album. And if for nothing else, it has Shine on You Crazy Diamond, which is my favorite song ot their's.
