And that's cool FMB, good amount of shows. You got some merch/CDs to sell to capitalise on it? Good chance to try out different setlists too.
Demo CDs are being recorded and I think I'm going to take the plunge and get some shirts made. I found a place only that will make them for $5.50 per shirt (for 25 black shirts), but I don't think his logo will be big enough. I've got a local place I'm going to check out tomorrow if I have time. |
That's a nice price for shirts.
k, there's 3 rar files in total for it. at the time of writing, one has finished uploading, one is about two thirds done, and one crashed so i've just restarted. however, all being well everything should reach you fine!
i definitely didn't get any of them. get on msn and msg me asap. |
I have to wonder if half of the bands we play with honestly think about their music, or if they just think everything in their genre is good and pump out some random BS.
I can think of about 3 bands around that I really like. Pretty much everything else is horrible, generic metal, or equally horrible radio rock crap. |

And they're not allowed to travel on the same plane as eachother.

Am I really being called out for generalizing? Fine, there are probably more than 3 good bands in Toronto, but I haven't found them. |
In Toronto, if you're in a band, it almost seems like you're required to have bands such as Three Days Grace, Creed, and Evanescence as your top influences. Ugh.
Pretty much as bland and generic as you can get. |
spiff
do you think your band is any better |
Based only on the feedback we get, yes, we often get told that we are better.
|
LOL ok 13 crosses

lol... |
10000 people disagree with me

I'm sure that Three Days Grace, Creed, and Evanescence also all regularly get told how good they are. The kind of music you play will attract a certain kind of music listener, but it doesn't validate the quality of your music, or a level of proficiency/quality over the music of another. |
Okay?
The kind of music ANYONE plays will attract a certain type of listener. The type of listener that likes the type of music being played. You're not really saying anything. How many times do I need to get grilled about my music before you guys just move on? Are your lives that empty? |

That's hyperbolic, of course, but let's face it, you constantly do nothing but tote the virtues of your band while making a point of slagging on/complaining about every other band you find locally because they're all stagnant, cookie-cutter groups. You just said earlier that the bands were tight, and played well, but sucked. In order for them to suck, they would have to be not tight and play poorly. I'm sure your band wouldn't know anything about that, though. |

Where do I actually say anything about our music, the quality of it, etc? The only relation I've found is that we've played with some of the bands I'm talking about. I don't say that we're better or more deserving, I just say, "Hey, I think this band sucks." Just because a band is tight and can play their songs doesn't mean their music is any good. It means they practice. I can put up some video from our last show to show you how shitty and sloppy we are, if you'd like. |
Spaceman Spiff is right.

Suck implies something is bad, bad is a quantifiable attribute: i.e. the cheese went bad, the air smells bad, throwing up feels bad. A band sucking would mean that they can't play their instruments, are out of tune, can't keep time, etc. It has nothing to do with whether or not you enjoy them. |

Why are you arguing semantics now? Are you trying to tell me you've never uttered the sentence, "This *blank* sucks," in reference to something you don't like? |

I try not to make a point of it, no. I'd be lying if I said I've never said it, but much like telling someone to "do good," it's poor form, linguistically speaking. |

We could agree on that, yes. You could take this opportunity to consider revising your choice of diction, however, as it would prove greatly beneficial to yourself in the future. |
Spiffs band sucks
|
yeah they do lol laughably bad in fact
|
raayl's mixing a mae's lost empire song... right now.
pow! |
Arguing the semantics of of the English language makes me smile. Like when people come up and say "Hurrr, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit," and I have to go through a big round-about lecture about the difference between humour and wit while also explaining their incorrect labelling of sarcasm and the subtle differences between that and sardonicism.

And I haven't even finished my degree! My god I stomp colon sometimes. I must admit there was a lot more theory involved in my degree than I thought when I first started though. I mean, does "Bachelor of Fine Arts" scream out 'persuasive literary techniques'? Although I am doing Journalism and Marketing units too. Having said that, it's good to know that an enthymeme is a truncated syllogism. |
