Those songs are wonderfull.
I started trying to learn that, but need a capo. :( |

I just got one at the beginning of the month for my acoustic. :thumb: It was like, 6 bucks, and it works perfectly. |

Doesn't Patterns II need a capo also? I could be mistaken. |

You can use a capo, you really don't need one though. http://metaltabs.com/tab/8150/ |
You need a capo if you want to play it in the correct key.. If you don't use a capo for Patterns in the ivy II, you might aswell not use a capo for still day beneath the sun
|

yeah, It sounds like crap without a capo. The correct way would be to play it like they do, with a capo. Or tune up a half step for Patterns II because the capo is on the first fret. |
You're confusing me, if you play patterns in the ivy II without a capo, surely you can play still day beneath the sun without a capo?

You can if you tune up. Or have extremely long fingers, if you want to play it correctly, in key, as you say. |
Yeah, but he already mentioned he isn't playing patterns in the ivy II in the right key.. So I can't see what's stopping him
|

No, I lost mine when I moved, I still have to get a new one. I miss it. I tried playing it without one and it sounds like crap. |
My fave instrumental is Reverie, very closely followed by For Absent Friends. Reverie is so soooooothing *drifts off*.
|
I just got "Ghose Reveries" for Christmas. Amazing album. I was referred to their music by a good friend of mine, and let me tell you, I will be getting the rest of their catalogue very soon.
Amazing band. |

Amazing band.
Once you listen to To Bid You Farewell from their second release Morningrise, you'll be even more amazed. I promise. Or anything from that album for that matter. |

:chug: :chug: :chug: I don't have plans for new years either, come over I have 4 cases of Budweiser and my neighbors are hot strippers! |

I think the album turned out well. There's a reason why To Bid You Farewell is so beautiful, the concept for Morningrise was not to over-do the clean vocals, then at the end of the album, it becomes rewarding. :) |

Can I come? I also agree To Bid You Farewell will amaze him, I'm listening now. :D :thumb: |

I never listen to that song anymore. I really don't want to wear it out. I only listen to it on special occasions. Hell yeah! Bring whoever you want, just don't touch the dancing cactus in the corner. |

Well; I just don't really think he was confident in his voice as much back then, and especially not confident that clean vocals would go over well with death metal fans. That said, I think those songs could have been almost perfect with clean vocals in them as well as death ones. I really like the guitar style, the songs just feel... incomplete, for Opeth. |

I don't think his confidence could have reached a higher level. |
I'm pretty sure he's stated that he didn't like his voice back then. From a technical standpoint, I see why, but for emotion, which you said, it's some of his best.
|
I would agree with it being the most emotional album, The Night and the Silent Water especially.

I can't believe him and Peter don't like that song... |

I meant his singing voice, not his growling voice, if you were under that misconception. I honestly think if he was more confident in it back then, he would have used it more like he has done through much of Opeth's carear. Anyway, if he was confident in it, he shouldn't have been, though it sounds perfect on To Bid You Farewell and Black Rose Immortal, it was still pretty weak. (Fit's the tracks perfectly, as I say) Don't get me wrong, I love Morningrise for those tracks alone, which is half the album, plus the rest, which has awesome riffs, but overall half the album I feel is lacking something of Opeth's sound. Edit: The Night and the Silent water is probably my favourite of the three other tracks. I think I read it was written about his Grandad dying, an older relative, anyway, and I don't think they've ever played it live for that very reason. |
I actually think I'm finally getting a bought copy of the album tomorrow. My drummer found a place that sells it, so I'm ganna track it down tomorrow. Say bye to my burnt copy.

Sweet. I really love the cover, it's possibly my favourite Opeth album cover and title, so classy. |

Indeed, it suits the music perfectly. :thumb: We haven't had discussion like this in some time, keep it coming guys. |
