Bad Blood 10-30-2005 06:46 AM

Sup guys'?

This is a bit of a stupid question, but i'm quite unsure of how to write about it.
In music class this year, there have been questions on drums in pieces etc.

Eg. What cymbal is being used in the main section of this piece?

Now, I need to know how to be able to distinguish a certain cymbal from another. I do play drums, but only to a certain extent (I have a crappy starter drum set, just a basic set, Hi-hat, snare, floor tom, bass, crash and two toms).

Any help would be muchly appreciated guys' :)

Edit: I didn't really want to make a thread about it, so i thought i'd post it in here rather than the beginners questions.

gimp fest 10-30-2005 06:49 AM

well, the hi-hat as you know is a beat cymbal along with the ride. they are used for keeping a steady beat on. i doubt you will need to now much more than that

Drum Phil 10-30-2005 06:50 AM

crash's have a crashy noise, rides usually have a ping to them, china's roar, hi-hats are really washy and have a chick to them :)

Bad Blood 10-30-2005 07:00 AM

Ah right, cheers guys. :)

they would be if they where made out of somthing stronger than custard.

They break too easily, especially around the headphone jack.
onetwothree. that is just a downright lie ally
no, it's not. The only fault with the zen micro is that it breaks easily. The number of people who have had them break on them due to the headphone jack is high.

Futuro 10-30-2005 09:14 AM
onetwothree. that is just a downright lie ally
Yeah! Cause thats what the der meister has been known for!

Anyway, I have been looking at a cymbal.
In a music 123 catalog Its 168. At mass music it is 198.
Music 123 does not have the cymbal on there website for proof. And i dont want to buy it from Music123, But I don't feel like paying 198 either.

What should I do?

really, ally was der mister. i was wondering what happended to him.

about the cymbal. if you can find a link to it on 123, massmusic will do a price match on it. also, check MF. their prices are close to 123's most of the time.

poppinfresh 10-30-2005 11:39 AM

bobby__johnny 10-30-2005 11:50 AM

poppinfresh 10-30-2005 11:54 AM

That should end up really nice.

puppet.master 10-30-2005 11:59 AM

Loyton 10-30-2005 12:26 PM

Jezen 10-30-2005 12:28 PM

:'( you took a whole 1 point away

Loyton 10-30-2005 12:32 PM

opeth suck, as do you. Ally

Nice negitive rep for good musical taste, douche bag. If i knew you better than I bet youd be very easy to make fun of.

Drum Phil 10-30-2005 12:34 PM

I had a shot at a 16" sabian signature devastation chinese yesterday when i was waitin for the dude to get my hat stand :) Its pretty nice

I mean't to neg you earlier on when you where being an asshat to the guy with a DW kit about a week ago, but had already used up all my rep for the day. Then I saw your avatar and remembered.

 btw, how much did i take off?

Loyton 10-30-2005 12:38 PM

I really have no idea, i dont keep track of how much rep i have. Though i have very little. You really dont like opeth, eh? thats enough to neg. rep someone?

Have you ever listened to blackwater park? Even people that arent a fan of the deep vocals can enjoy the musical expertice displayed there.

-edit I guess you havnt noticed, but a high percentage of my posts are extremely helpfull and offer sound advice. From what i have seen most of yours either

A. Point out how somthing is wrong.

B. Dont do anything at all

or

C. Plainly be an asshole.

Der Meister 10-30-2005 12:40 PM

 I've never heard any opeth before in my life

Loyton 10-30-2005 12:43 PM

That would fit into the B. catagory.

Drum Phil 10-30-2005 12:43 PM

Feel the love

Jezen 10-30-2005 12:49 PM

It's getting hot in here, but I hope everyone keeps their clothes on...

Drum Phil 10-30-2005 12:51 PM
I had a shot at a 16" sabian signature devastation chinese yesterday when i was waitin for the dude to get my hat stand Its pretty nice
enh...i really dont like this one. it'll do, but its no where near as dynamic as my AA....i really have to lay into it for a good sound. light taps are horrible

Drum Phil 10-30-2005 01:13 PM

Not something i'd personally buy, but it was nice :) I personally love the radia china
