The Dukes Of Stratosphere are really really cool. Its unfair to just refer to them as a side project of XTC.
It's true.

I've been listening to the Slits a lot lately, which is odd because I thought I hated Cut. Upon further inspection, I still hate it. But there are a couple really good songs in that mess. Ari Up's voice is growing on me.
Slits=good.

More Johnny Hobo and Johnny Cash - Murder.

It's an album all about murder.

Zappa 01-31-2006 05:58 PM

Debussy's first book of Preludes played by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. This is definitely some of my favorite music. Debussy was a "genius."

Are you kidding me? Has it not been me for like two years?

I had a really even week, listened to a lot of different things once. Note all the ties.

Say Anything, probably the third best pop-punk band after Coheed and Thrice.

ATM 01-31-2006 06:46 PM

Clogs - Stick Music

Wierd stuff.

Zappa 01-31-2006 06:49 PM

Duke motha****in' Ellington.

...and His Mother Named Him Bill with Clark Terry holding it town on the fluegelhorn. Such marvelous stuff. Billy Strayhorn was great. Ellington was great. Hamburgers are great.

I've always wondered why everyone thinks Thrice is so great. I have a hard time hearing anything special about them. Did they invent or revolutionize the style they (and millions of others) play? Is that it, or is there something else I'm missing?

ATM 01-31-2006 06:52 PM

People like Thrice's riffs.

Hehehhe.

I'm on a bit of a Dylan kick today. I'm listening to Blonde On Blonde right now, with Blood On The Tracks and Bringing It All Back Home coming up afterwards.

The Cramps - Songs The Lord Taught Us

I dunno how to exactly describe The Cramps. Greasy, bluesy, rockabilly garage punk.

YDload 01-31-2006 11:31 PM
They helped infulence it alot. Have you heard The Illusion of Safety?
I'm listening to it now. I think I understand better, although I still don't think it's THAT great.

It's also incredibly disheartening to think of all the thousands of bands who figuratively put this album up on a bar like some sort of musical pole vault, charged at it with music outstretched, and utterly failed to clear the bar.

Their loss I guess. Thrice is ok by me.

Tangy zizzle 01-31-2006 11:53 PM

I want to know what Thrice are like as people.

I bet one of them has a secret cape-wearing habit.

YDload 02-01-2006 12:25 AM

Is Petitioning the Empty Sky a better Converge album than Jane Doe? It could be.

Oh and Tangy: this guy on iTunes has three Jon Spencer Blues Explosion albums: Now I Got Worry, Plastic Fang, and Xtra-Acme USA. Which one is best?

Tangy zizzle 02-01-2006 12:38 AM

Best is probably Now I got Worry, but Plastic Fang is my favourite. Go for Now I got Worry, it's a good start.

YDload 02-01-2006 12:56 AM

I'm already on it. Seems pretty good, especially "Chicken Dog."
Say Anything, probably the third best pop-punk band after Coheed and Thrice.
Yes, very much so. Except I don't really like Coheed. Should I get 3? It's on sale for $10.

Antony and the Johnsons
Birds Are Spies, They Report To The Trees

Apparently they are good blokes. They seem cool in the interviews I've read. I'm pretty sure most of them are christians too.

I was listening to Coheed the other day and realized, the only cd I trully really dig is the Second Stage Turbine Blade. So that's the only album by them I can recommend.

OrbDragon 02-01-2006 05:45 AM

The Delgados are one of my favorite bands. Everyone thinks I'm overrating this band almost criminally, and they're probably right. But their music is the epitome of what the OrbDragons of the world feast on. Artsy, over the top and cute melody-caressing female vocals (at least for one half).

Even if you Hate (no pun intended?) their other material, you got to hand it that "Keep On Breathing" is one of the more interestingly composed pop songs. It's so genius.

Besides The Delgados, I've been listening to Dresden Dolls and The Arcade Fire alot. "In The Backseat" is one of the better Arcade Fore songs, it's sad in a happy sort of way (or the other way around).

The Dresden Dolls are one of the best bands of this decade in my opinion...if anyone can tell me more bands that use imagery that's different and unique to them, tell me right away.

Too bad :(

I Was A Kaleidoscope 02-01-2006 05:56 AM

Hmm, the only Coheed CD I truly really dig is Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV. So that's both of the ones that aren't the one that is on sale. :p

OrbDragon 02-01-2006 05:57 AM

I think Coheed is crap

...

...

...

Maybe I shouldn't have said that, but it felt quite good.
Too bad :(
You could always check out Toby Driver's solo album because that's what I'm digging at the moment. Yay, for more ambience.
