From what I remember of that, Mike had a lot of soft guitar material written for Deliverance, but Steven Wilson said that it could work better in the double album format, one soft and one heavy.

Wilson only actually contributed one full song (in terms of lyrics), which was Death Whispered a Lullabye

Wilson just adds to what Mikeal already had. It wouldn't be that much different without him.

I don't think it was Steven who came up with the idea though, they were doing it before he came aboard.

Yeah, the heavy/soft thing came before Steve worked with them.


Steve added those nice keyboard lines though. Those probably wouldn't be there without him.

He was touring during the Deliverence tour as well, ie: Before Damnation was actually released. If Steve hadn't done it, maybe Per would have done it, who knows, Mikael had apparently wanted him to work with them for a long time. Though, I think without Steve the recording process could have gone even worse and both albums would have suffered, (Read the Opeth history thing on their site, and watch the Lamentations documentary; very interesting).

Indeed Steve kept the band together during those albums.

Now I really want Lamentations even more. Is it specifically for DVD-A players (like the PT album DVDs) or for any DVD player?

I don't know about no letters but it's Region 0 (NTSC) if that tells you anything.

It should work for any DVD player, I use my ps2 for to play my dvds.

It's not a DVD-A. DVD-A's are mostly music only (because the music is on there in so high quality that there isn't room for much else)

That can't be right, because I have the In Absentia DVD, it's a DVD-A, and it only works on my DVD player on my TV, not the one on my computer...and the TV one says DVD-A compatible while the computer doesn't....

Well, I don't know anything about technology. Whatever.
