Got my Opeth watch for Christmas. Blackwater Park face.
Tis rather sweet. :D
That's cool. I might search for one also, my watch broke yesterday. |
Guess who got Lamentations?
With my Christmas money I'mma buy Damnation and some ( )peth shirts. I also bought Deliverance on eBay for 11 dollars. Best. Deal. Ever.
Except for me getting Still Life on Amazon for 7.
Except for Blackwater Park for 6. My god, do I kick ass.
:upset: Oh, Ok. Well Still Life is better! :p |
Actually most of the material for Damnation wasn't from Mikael's originality, but from Porcupine Tree's musical genius: Steven Wilson. Watch Lamentations Disc 2 (Making of Damnation + Deliverance, and band interviews) and you will see what I mean.
From what I remember of that, Mike had a lot of soft guitar material written for Deliverance, but Steven Wilson said that it could work better in the double album format, one soft and one heavy. Wilson only actually contributed one full song (in terms of lyrics), which was Death Whispered a Lullabye |
Wilson just adds to what Mikeal already had. It wouldn't be that much different without him.
I don't think it was Steven who came up with the idea though, they were doing it before he came aboard. |
Yeah, the heavy/soft thing came before Steve worked with them.
Steve added those nice keyboard lines though. Those probably wouldn't be there without him. |
I agree, though someone else would have done them.
|

As slick as Stevo? I think not. :thumb: |
Of course not! Don't accuse me of blasphemy!

You were implying it... :smash: ;) |
Watch Lamentations Disc 2..
There is no disc 2, silly.
Except for me getting Still Life on Amazon for 7. :upset: Oh, Ok. Well Still Life is better! :p
Oh my gawd. I'd rather have Still Life for 10 than Blackwater Park for 6. |
Got my Opeth watch for Christmas. Blackwater Park face.
Hi guys, I wanna go to the Melbourne Opeth concert in April, are their concerts 18+? I'm only 16... :( My friend says because their are two gigs for Melbourne one should be 18+ and one all ages. Anyone know about this??
(this'll be my first concert experience ever :D)
....same! Same! And same! It'll be my first concert, I'm 16, it's in Melbourne... yo dude I'll have to meet you there! I'm lucky, I've got no where to stay up there so Mum has offered to drive me up there and stay with me in a motel or something. Yeah! But yes there is the issue about the age. Well don't the venues decide? You're in Melbourne, go ask at The Forum. I'll ask/search around, and if I find out I'll tell you. EDIT: ...isn't The Forum where The Lion King is playing? If so, I don't reckon we'll have to worry about age. Oh, and anyone know how much tickets are? |
As slick as Stevo? I think not. :thumb:
Per? |
Per?
..Per wasn't in the band at the time, nore was he producing Damnation. Nore would he have had a job with Opeth if it weren't for Damnation. |
..Per wasn't in the band at the time, nore was he producing Damnation.
Nore would he have had a job with Opeth if it weren't for Damnation.
He was touring during the Deliverence tour as well, ie: Before Damnation was actually released. If Steve hadn't done it, maybe Per would have done it, who knows, Mikael had apparently wanted him to work with them for a long time. Though, I think without Steve the recording process could have gone even worse and both albums would have suffered, (Read the Opeth history thing on their site, and watch the Lamentations documentary; very interesting). |
Indeed Steve kept the band together during those albums.
|
Now I really want Lamentations even more. Is it specifically for DVD-A players (like the PT album DVDs) or for any DVD player?
|
I don't know about no letters but it's Region 0 (NTSC) if that tells you anything.
|
I don't know about no letters but it's Region O (NTSC) if that tells you anything.
Huh? |
Now I really want Lamentations even more. Is it specifically for DVD-A players (like the PT album DVDs) or for any DVD player?
It should work for any DVD player, I use my ps2 for to play my dvds. |
Huh?
/e-shrug Since it's NTSC, I suppose it'd work with all dvd players. Assuming you have an NTSC player, which you will if you're in North America. |

I think so, too.
:upset: |
Riiight.....
/www.google.com Ok, apparently DVD-A's work on any dvd player, but if you use a DVD-A compatible player whatever's on it comes out a lot better. I don't think it matters whether it's NTSC or not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Audio http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/N/NTSC.html For anyone who was as confused by that as I was. |
Try typing in the venues website, and im sure your questions will be answered
They don't even mention the concert on their website. Anyway, it's the premier concert/stage play joint in the city so it shouldn't be over 18. Yay, I'm seeing Opeth. |
Now I really want Lamentations even more. Is it specifically for DVD-A players (like the PT album DVDs) or for any DVD player?
It's not a DVD-A. DVD-A's are mostly music only (because the music is on there in so high quality that there isn't room for much else)
I don't know about no letters but it's Region 0 (NTSC) if that tells you anything.
Depends on where you buy it.. That's what the regions are for |
Riiight.....

Well, I don't know anything about technology. Whatever. |
