WTF is contrary motion?
its a theory term
where you form chords but like the bass moves down to a chord tone while the guitar moves up or vice a versa

MasterofBass 04-23-2005 03:17 PM

hello mx!!!

exactly
used a lot in piano because it has two melodies at a time
cept i added in a couple of slides and hammers/pulls to improve it

fatbandit 04-23-2005 03:17 PM

Oh, right.

Thunder Fingers 04-23-2005 03:18 PM

^i think me band have that in one of our songs (that we are starting on)

the intro goes, and i play a dadada each time she starts over at e for to times, and then me and the rythm guitarist goes high speed the other direction then the lead guitar :p

do you play piano?

and im surprised you knew about contrary motion, for some reason you didnt come off as someone who knew a bunch of theory

neal_672 04-23-2005 03:23 PM

fatbandit 04-23-2005 03:23 PM

Meh. I do that sometimes, but mostly the same note an octave below the guitar, if that counts. Meh. And there's some harmony stuff, but its not quite the same.

fatbandit 04-23-2005 03:24 PM

Has Neal stopped dancing? Will Neal start dancing after this post to prove me wrong?

jaco jr 04-23-2005 03:25 PM

well - i did two years if music theory in school lessons - and they teach everyone that (based on piano cos keyboards are cheap for everyone in a class to have) - but unfortunately, i opted out of gcse music, a decsision i now regret, so, im ok on scales, i dont understand keys properly, and musch past that im not good on, but yes contrary motion i do know

neal_672 04-23-2005 03:25 PM

*dances*

jaco jr 04-23-2005 03:26 PM

oh and i have a rubbish old keyboard at home, so i play that a bit, it helps me understand the relation of notes better

fatbandit 04-23-2005 03:29 PM

Dammit. Neal wins again!
