Yeah, I like Heartwork. Not my favorite Carcass, but I like it.

It's like one of the three Melodic Death metal albums I actually like.

A lot of it is an acquired taste, and I'm not just talking about Avant-Garde Metal, but Avant-Garde anything.

Arcturus has actually grown on me a lot, and Ephel Duath has it's cool moments too for an avant garde band.

I really do like Arcturus.

Other stuff like Mr. Bungle is cool.

Ephel Duath's The Painter's Palette album is great. The one after that is lolsuck.

People need to keep wierd **** out of death metal. No avante garde, no ambient, no "jazz" crap, none of that ****. Symphonic is fine (when done well), but nothing else. It just gays up the genre.

tbh I only heard the first 3 tracks, which is why I said I'm going to be listening to it a lot. I'm far from placing a judgement on it atm, but I do think it was a bit overhyped on MA. Every single review title is basically "BEST DEATH METAL ALBUM EVER! - 99%"

that's pretty much what Chuck Schuldiner thought before he was jamming with the guys from Cynic. He went from writing a standard type of death metal (Spiritual Healing) to Human which incorporated jazz structures and was much more complex. and like Josh said, it pretty much only applies to bands who suck at songwriting.

Atheist are so great because they take technicality and jazziness and throw it into kickass 5 minute songs.

Isolate Gravity is a pretty solid song but I wish they'd get rid of Kevin Freeman. He does not do their talents justice by any means.

No idea. They still only have the 2 demos as far as I know.

I just read a few pages back about the melo-death arguements so not to bring up the past but...I know Soilwork hasn't done anything special in forever but Chainheart Machine and A Predator's Portrait are damn good albums.

Also, I think the reason why I dont like TotM is due to the fact that I cant stand Chris Barnes vox.

Barnes vocals become tolerable after a while, he does suck, but early CC is awesome musically.

And I used to love Soilwork, but I'll have to say, their only half-decent album is Steelbath Suicide.

See I think Chainheart was just a better structured Steelbath.

Razor Lives rules though.

If Barnes "spit" his vocals like George, I might enjoy 'em more
