I think the parts where Vortex sings are some of the greatest moments ever in metal, just purely amazing. The guitars aren't technical but the tone is amazing, Nick Barker kicks some booty on those drums, and the keyboards are orgasmic. You can't really hear it but Vortex has some neat basslines too. The only downside are the goofy harsh vocals.
Like the very first lines of the first verse in Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse? I like when they use the phaser with the vocals...it gives it that creepy, eerie sound. What other songs are there that the bass player sings?

Shred Danson 01-26-2006 08:23 PM

Great job discussin' Dimmu in a COB thread, guys :p

Your damn right about Vortex.

On the video of Progenies... live.... His clear vocals are amazing.

Track 7 on DCA. the title isn't english.

He has some amazing clear vocals on that one.

I posted in the Dimmu thread once I realized there was one

Bodom is cool too :p

Yea, it's Japanese I believe...the Japanese get all the cool stuff, has anyone else ever noticed that? Bonus tracks on albums usually come on Japanese ones, Tokyo Warhearts, the Alexi ESP guitar...I wish I lived in Japan. :(

If I remember correctly, the song is Allehelgens Dod I Helveds Rike. The clean vocals in that song are the most beautiful thing I've ever heard a metal band do. Truly amazing.
Anyone ever notice that all the post Stormblast albums by Dimmu got less than a B- on Metal-Archive reviews? I cannot believe Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia got a 58%, it is an amazing album, you jsut get all these idiots coming in and saying "oh its not tr00 that means it sucks!" If it isn't a black metal album they shouldn't judge it as one...
Definitely. This is another band that takes a lot of undeserved **** from the tr00 metal guys. Sure they're not black metal anymore, but their new stuff has some amazing symphonic and vocal work. I like all of their stuff, but I think the new stuff is the best.

Yeah. That's the song I was talking about. I wish Vortex sang more for DB, but at the same time; they don't wear it out. Which is nice.

I can't stand the people who bash DB, OMC and whoever else, because they aren't tr00.
I think they have greatly improved over time. DCA and EDT are my favs.

there is only a lack of one word... question: which one?! :D

Shattered_Future 01-27-2006 01:48 PM

If you guys like his voice, pick up Sideshow Symphonies by Arcturus. He does vocals for the whole thing.

Quite interesting, really...he does some screams too.

Dude that's cool!

so I can harly type write now. I've got the day off from school so I've been practicing that 5th Caprice....god it's stretching my hands out. But it's sounding really good. I think the next COBsong I'm gonna learn is gonna be Trshed lost and strungout. that's such a cool song.

Shadows 01-27-2006 03:47 PM

Major school project completed finally.

Now I can finish tabbing Lil' Bloodred Ridin' Hood like I've been saying I will. Then I can finally spend time learning that and the intro to Passage to the Reaper.

Speaking of which, I'm sorry I didn't mail that out last night. I got sidetracked with some school work. I didn't forget about you all, but now that it's a weekend I'll be able to type it up and mail it out for sure tonight.

TL&S is pretty easy.

I've never tried the solo though.

I started learning it a while back and then dropped it.

Once I finish/master sixpounder then I'll learn some DB. Maybe progenies. I already have a great tab for that song.

Then I might do TL&S.

repcak 01-27-2006 05:13 PM

if TL&S is easy i should try to play it...

It would be a fun song to cover. Right after I've impressed eveyrone with my 5th Caprice solo! LoL

The only part I could see being hard is the solo but I never got to that.

The lead riff isn't that hard.

Children of Bodom - London Astoria 26th Jan 06

OK I have now seen the incredible Children of Bodom live.
Pretty dam fucking crazy shit, best gig so far for me, purely because it was them. I'm not going to go into detail because it's the same as all the rest. I didn't meet them because I had to leave early to get the last train home but I did touch Roope's hand and I've played with Alexi's guitar pick, that's enough me for, I'll meet them next year.

I want to go to a Bodom concert. I found out about the one with Trivium when it was too late. Wasn't Amon Amrth on that tour also?

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is my favorite album of all time. Every song has something awesome in it. Like Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny, when all the instruments break except for 1 guitar going dundundun then they all come in and Shagrath goes "UH" and it echoes. Kings of the Carnival Creation has that freaky keyboard intro and just the whole rythym part with the stop start bass drums awesome. Architecture of a Genocidal Nature has the coolest breakdown ever, with the coolest vocal effects ever. Puritania is just punch in the face awesome. Indoctrination has the sweet verse with the crazy bass drums. And on and on. As a whole I really like the double bass drums and the vocal effects Shagrath uses. He definetely sounds like some ethereal creature from the abodes of hell.

PsychoticFlubber 01-28-2006 09:55 AM

Apparently someone fixed the lyrics to "Trashed, Lost & Strungout" on DarkLyrics...

Once a day falling on the trail walking blind trade nothing descretion in low,
It's hard to wait taking yourself in honor I should know how low I can go

Before I go high I get very down, and I'll be going after it again and again

You know I cant go the other way without being trashed, lost, and strungout,
When together try something drug and you question me what's to coming out

Before I go high I get very down, and I'll be going after it again and again

Maybe I Should'a (Could'a) trashed my life for this I turn to you.
But today I'm trashed I know I'll be harassed so tell me what the **** to do

I need to get it to the point where I cannot do nothing
But trying to beat something outa
You let me drown way deep down below for a sleep that'll surely let go,
Until the end I raise and batter around looking at my own reflection forever
I shall kiss you good bye to kill my soul addiction

Before I go high I hit the ground,
The only way I ever get down,
Then with the next you'll tell me where to go,
And after it I'll want more

I need to get it to the point where I cannot do nothing
But trying to beat something outa
You let me drown way deep down below for a sleep that'll surely let go,
Until the end I raise and batter around looking at my own reflection forever
I shall kiss you good bye to kill my soul addiction....

Shadows 01-28-2006 09:58 AM

Those aren't bad lyrics actually.

Toaster 01-28-2006 10:00 AM

They sure beat "I don't give a flying fuck, motherfucker". Are they the real lyrics?

Could be, but then again Alexi doesn't usually give out many of his lyrics. Someone just used that as a correction on Darklyrics.com, but to me it sounds pretty close.

I know most of you don't care but here's some pics from my gig last Thursday taken by me from the front row, some were from the second:

Awsome Dude did you ever see my photos?

Did they do the whole thing where they played for a hour then took a break during the drummer solo then came back out with tons of beer and new clean guitars. while not wearing shirts?

LoL Look Alexi Broke a toe

http://www.cobhc.com/page/index.php

MRDuCran 01-28-2006 02:36 PM

I think I saw your photos yeah.

Yeah they did that thing but the drum solo was quite early in the set and they did the last 2/3 song topless.

I read about Alexi 2 days before the gig, but he broke it like 10 days before so it probably healed quite a bit.

They had a car of stage (as you can see) and they revved (sp?) it up at the beginning, sounded amazing.

OH MAN! That's so f'ing awsome! I wish I got that close... I didn't have a camera though either... I wish I was that close. I might of had a heart attack though... I am too paranoid about bringing a camera to a show though, won't you get kicked out if you are seen with one?

It depends on where you see them really. I saw them at one of the hardest spots in S.A (Not really....but it's not pretty) and nobody really cared.

I used a camra phone

MRDuCran 01-28-2006 02:48 PM

If you get caught with it at the doors they will take it away but I had it in my bag, that was on my back under the thick leather jacket, didn't even know it was there!!!
There were 3 guards that saw me with my camera, did fukk all about it, I was holding it up at arms length too.

I wasn't going to take one 'cause I thought there's not much point since I've seen pics of them live before, but then I thought wow, these will be my own pictures!!
So yeah, I took one.
