^ Ultimately, it depends on mood.
Although, I would rather listen to Deliverance.
.. Most of the time.

Oh, and I just put a layby payment on what is soon to be my first Opeth shirt. A nice, Ghost Reveries orientated one. :thumb:
Concert on April(Ethereal LAWLERS HOCH HECH!) 20th, for me.

*dances around like gollum finding a rabbit*
I have that Ghost Reveries shirt. It's a pretty sweet one.
and great Gollum description. :thumb:

NP - Opeth - Bleak
Yes!!! I just got to the long clean section!

penelope weird hands 03-12-2006 09:10 AM

^ Nice, man.
Is yours the one with the candles on the front, or the one with the undercover of the CD(without track titles) on the back?
I'm getting the latter.
Forgot whats on the front of mine, I'm too inebriated to remember. ;}

And yes, Bleak freaking owns (as demonstrated above)! :P
I'm more of a Damnation person myself.
Both are great but I love the mellow feel of Damnation. Closure ftw.

Jude 03-12-2006 10:20 AM

I like Damnation more. Deliverance is one of my less-liked Opeth albums.

Kaiwaz 03-12-2006 11:16 AM
I like Damnation more. Deliverance is one of my less-liked Opeth albums.
I like them both about the same. It all depends on what mood I'm in depending on which of the two I listen to.

Shadius 03-12-2006 11:43 AM
I like Damnation more. Deliverance is one of my less-liked Opeth albums.
I agree. Though Deliverance still has good songs on it.

Jude 03-12-2006 12:31 PM
I agree. Though Deliverance still has good songs on it.
Oh yeah definitely. But Deliverance IMO is the only song on there that's really great all the way through, the others all suffer from weak spots in various amounts. Damnation is almost all great except Weakness I don't like too much.

Shadows 03-12-2006 12:59 PM

Damnation is one of my top Opeth albums but I just recently discovered my love for Deliverance. Every song on both of those albums are top-notch. Currently my least favorite Opeth is Still Life despite the presence of several of their most amazing songs ever.

What about The Master's Apprentices? I think that's the best song on the album.

ok lateralus 03-12-2006 02:43 PM

I kind of like D1 better, but it depends on mood

Kaiwaz 03-12-2006 03:11 PM

Come on, where are all the ''Hearse'' fans????

Stormrider 03-12-2006 03:20 PM
What about The Master's Apprentices? I think that's the best song on the album.
First Opeth song I heard :)

I saw Lamentations today for 19.99 $ Which is an extrmemly good price. Is it this cheap where you guys found it too ?

NP The Moor

gmoneyguy 03-12-2006 03:30 PM

I can't wait, one week from today about this time I'll be on my way to New Orleans to see Opeth.

MAYH fans for the win.

NP: Karma

Stormrider 03-12-2006 03:38 PM

I don't have MAYH and I think I've heard one song off of it :upset:

/Checks

gmoneyguy 03-12-2006 03:39 PM

MAYH was the first Opeth Album I bought.

^Dream~Theater^ 03-12-2006 03:40 PM

I dont know what the big hype over MAYH is...maybe I need to listen to it more, I really can't stand the Amen Corner though.

Shadows 03-12-2006 03:41 PM

Y'all are fools, MAYH is probably my favorite Opeth album. April Ethereal, When, Demon of the Fall, and Karma are beastly songs. The flurry of screaming at the end of Karma is fucking vicious.

JamJar 03-12-2006 04:29 PM

MAYH is the earliest 'Peth album that I really appreciate. The intro to Karma is amazing.

Shadows 03-12-2006 04:43 PM

Woah woah woah, where's the love for Orchid and Morningrise?

Jude 03-12-2006 04:58 PM
What about The Master's Apprentices? I think that's the best song on the album.
Other than the acoustic part in the middle, that song doesn't do much for me.

MAYH also isn't that great to me.

And I have lots of love for Morningrise, but not Orchid so much.

azbassman 03-12-2006 04:59 PM

The first album i bought was Blackwater Park. The only one i dont have now is Ghost Reveries

Tyr 03-12-2006 05:03 PM

I love MAYH, it's definitely one of my favourite Opeth albums.

I love the lyrics and how the music flows with them. The Master's Apprentices is really one of their best songs.

Karma is my favorite Opeth song, hands down.
I dont know what the big hype over MAYH is...maybe I need to listen to it more, I really can't stand the Amen Corner though.
That song is great, really, I absolutely love it.
Woah woah woah, where's the love for Orchid and Morningrise?
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa .... Lois, this is not my Batman glass.

I love them both, previous posts from me will prove it.

Aside from Ghost Of Perdition, your not missing much. To me this album really doesn't sound like Opeth. A couple parts do but i think they were just trying something a little too different.

It does sound like Opeth though because it is Opeth. Most of the songs are better live and there are some really cool moments on the album. It really grows on you especially after they play some of the songs live.

Isolation Years is one of my favorite Opeth songs too.

Shadows 03-12-2006 06:09 PM

GR is at the top of my Opeth list. I love that album immensely. It has a much darker feel to it than past albums, which really reflects the occult theme.

eighty d 03-12-2006 06:30 PM
Most of the songs are better live
That's true. The Grand Conjuration is a good song on the album, good not great. Live it was unbelievable. The clean sung sections build the tension so perfectly, and then the heavy sections just punish.

Shadius 03-12-2006 06:39 PM

MAYH is an amazing album, it's my Opeth album of the moment. After playing Ghost Reveries a lot and having that as my fav, then Still Life. Hearse has been the next one to fill the void. Deliverance couldn't quite cut it to the same level.

Damnation was actually the first I was obsessed with. Blackwater Park and Deliverance were both good, but as whole albums they don't satisfy me like the others I mentioned. Nor have Orchid or Morningrise satisfied me as full albums either. Still though, these "lesser" albums have some amazing songs on them.

I think Opeths albums are in about this order for me now:

Still Life
Ghost Reveries
Damnation
My Arms, Your Hearse
Blackwater Park
Deliverance
Morningrise
Orchid

Subject to change, I could yet fall in love with Deliverance or Orchid, or maybe get what the all the fuss is about over Blackwater Park as a title track, that could mess things up a bit.

Whale and Wasp 03-12-2006 06:47 PM

my order would be....

orchid/deliverance/still life

then

ghost reveries/damnation

then

my arms your hearse/morningrise

then

blackwater park

slashes mean they switch around that level a lot

Reverie/Harlequin Forest blows me right away, Imo that's a very good song.

Shadius 03-12-2006 07:35 PM

Baying of the Hounds is also a great song, along with Beneath the Mire.

Shadows 03-12-2006 07:41 PM

Baying of the Hounds, Beneath the Mire, and Reverie/Harlequin Forest are my favorites. The clean singing in Reverie is unbelievably amazing.

Deth 03-12-2006 08:01 PM

I'm a huge MAYH fan. The Amen Corner took a long time to grow on me, but I love it now.

Ghost Of Perdition and Harlequin Forest are my faves off GR.

Kaiwaz 03-12-2006 08:07 PM

Ghost Of Perdition and Reverie/Harlequin Forest are the better songs from Ghost Reveries. I enjoy them both.

Jude 03-12-2006 08:09 PM

I favor Ghost of Perdition and Baying of the Hounds....Beneath the Mire annoys the crap out of me until the very end of it there's one cool part...Atonement is nice but it doesn't do it for me like other soft Opeth songs do...R/HF is OK but I find a lot of the riffs really boring and some of the vocal melodies are just meh, not up to Mikael's standards really...Hours of Wealth is really nice except for the singing part grinds my nerves...TGC is cool but too repetetive...and Isolation Years is really nice, I like it.

Shattered_Future 03-12-2006 08:12 PM

TGC absolutely slays live though. Probably one of the best songs of the night.

Kaiwaz 03-12-2006 08:17 PM

It was good live, but that didn't change my opinion about the song. I still don't care for it.

Deth 03-12-2006 08:20 PM

It was really good live, I have to say. Plus, I'm enjoying it more on the album as well.

Kaiwaz 03-12-2006 08:21 PM

Of all their songs they played, The Amen Corner was by far the best.
