I'm cool with that.

FatalEnergy 09-19-2005 10:30 PM
Groove =/= Thrash, therefore it needs to get out this thread or die.

Later everybody. :D
Agreed
I've heard that the pre CFH stuff is actually pretty thrashy. But I've never heard any of it.

NP: Exodus - Bonded By Blood
It's not really thrash, it's actually more speed metal kind of like Judas Priest in a way I guess. At least "Power Metal" is like that, the stuff before "Power Metal" is cheesy glam and it's as cheesy as cheesy gets. Definatley worth a listen for a good laugh

NP: Venom - Welcome to Hell
I finnally found and bough Fist Full of Metal, its an amazing thrash CD. It also came with Armed and Dangerous. And now I have the first 5 Anthrax Albums.
MAthiAS 09-20-2005 05:51 AM

I like them a lot.

RCA 09-20-2005 06:26 AM

They're alright; I quite like some of their songs.

ArcLite 09-20-2005 07:31 AM

I'm quite a fan of them. I'll be seeing them with Opeth in November.

Saw them at Gigantour. Cool group, I haven't gone deep into them quite yet though.

DimebagDarrell 09-20-2005 10:31 AM

I think im going to be sick ive just heard the tori amos version of raining blood. so many emotions.... :upset:

Arise II 09-20-2005 11:50 AM

I think her version kicks ***, its soooooo much more scary than the original

Shred Danson 09-20-2005 11:56 AM
I think her version kicks ***, its soooooo much more scary than the original
It bored the hell out of me, I'll be honest. it ain't scary, you're just waiting for the song to end. And you have an easier time deciphering what tom Araya is saying than what she is. I was expecting something pretty cool (not thrash, just her doing a good cover of it in her style), but it let me down...

Nevermore discussion- LOVE THEM. Jeff Loomis is one of my influences, lead-wise...the stuff they pull amazes me. My bass player got "This Godless Endeavor" recently...I'm so stealing it from him  .

DimebagDarrell 09-20-2005 12:04 PM

aint they got steve symth in them once of testament??

amos cover is bollocks no riffs not even a idea of the original and its on piano

I....wouldn't reccommend trying to listen to it. Your head will explode and all reality will cease to exist.

He really impressed me a lot more than Petrucci at Gigantour.

Shred Danson 09-20-2005 01:47 PM
He really impressed me a lot more than Petrucci at Gigantour.
Now, I love Petrucci as much as I love Loomis, they're both great guitarists, but I guess it has a lot to do with stage presence. I mean, don't get me wrong, Dream Theater is a great band, awesome musicianship, but boring as hell to watch live. Even when they do parts in which they don't do crazy solos or whatnot, they just stand there and play. I wish there was more to their live show than just laser lights and such...

MAthiAS 09-20-2005 01:50 PM

Yeah really. They're boring as hell live. And their studio works are getting pretty boring too...

On a thrash note, Megadeth weren't all that great live either...

Shred Danson 09-20-2005 01:51 PM

Well, that's not surprising, Dave's just getting too old for headbanging I guess...

I'm off to work, later.

MAthiAS 09-20-2005 01:53 PM

Yeah I guess. Sad...

Peace...

I downloaded it last year while I had Soulseek, thank god.

would you mind sending it to me please? :)

I saw Megadeth about 8 or 9 months ago, on thier first show since they started up again and they ruled, but at Gigantour which I saw about two months ago they were pretty weak. Well, actually it was just Dave that was weak, everyone else kicked much ass

NP: Gamma Ray - The Heart of the Unicorn

Bazarov 09-20-2005 04:48 PM

Hey RCA, that owner guy of unsung herosy emailed me saying that this website:
http://www.alphadraconisrecords.org/webstore/frame.htm is where you can place orders for their cd's. So yeah maybe this website won't give you any pop-up problems.

EDIT- Also, I can't find the thread where someone described the term wiffle thrash. And I can't really remember what it meant, something about being not evil and taking a more political stand point, or something like that can someone give me the correct definition?

Yeah, they were great with Exodus in the smaller venues. Huge festival = short set = huge venue = awful reverb.

I heard it off of Slayerfiles.com or something.

It was just...so slow and so weird it wasn't even funny.

OMG! The Alliance of Hellhoundz clip is finally ****ing finshed!

The song is pretty awsome if you ask me, the video....is kinda of ...ehhh. Schmier looks funny singing when he doesn't have a mic in front of him. I didn't really like all the effects and stuff, it just seemed too forced. The song kicks major ass though

DimebagDarrell 09-21-2005 03:47 AM

i got it off soulseek but i advise you not too hear it because its terrible to say the least.

Pandfair 09-21-2005 10:05 AM

Just got 'Coroner - Mental Vortex' today, it's definitely not what I was expecting after hearing 'Punishment for Decadence' but it's still a great album, though not particularly thrashy. What other Coroner would you guys recommend?

Arise II 09-21-2005 10:25 AM

Grin, kickass album

DimebagDarrell 09-21-2005 10:42 AM

no more colour...no more colour!!

ThrashMaster27 09-21-2005 11:58 AM

If you liked Punishment For Decadence, I'd suggest getting R.I.P. or No More Color, as appose to Grin, which is hardly in the Thrash vain at all.

Pandfair 09-21-2005 12:13 PM

Well I like both Mental Vortex and Punishment For Decadence, is Grin similar to to Mental Vortex then?

ThrashMaster27 09-21-2005 12:17 PM

Yeah, there's a more Progressive feel on Grin. Even more so than Mental Vortex. Strange little album really and not one I'm overly keen on. The other 2 albums are much easier to get hold of anyway.

Terrorzone 09-21-2005 12:21 PM

Still wondering if anyone has Dreamweaver and would like to trade it over AIM.

Pandfair 09-21-2005 12:21 PM

Thanks for the advice, I'm probably going to go with R.I.P next.

Edit: I also managed to get a copy of 'Artillery - By Inheritance' on Ebay.

Arise II 09-21-2005 02:00 PM

Artillery are sorta 'meh'

Pandfair 09-21-2005 03:18 PM

I'm only judging them on what I've heard, and I really like the By Inheritance album. Any albums I should stay clear of?

ThrashMaster27 09-21-2005 03:48 PM

Artillery are great. There's no album to steer clear of with them. B.A.C.K. is probably their weakest album, but it's still a cracker.

Oh yeah, has anybody ever heard Intruder - Live To Die, cause I like their other 2 albums a lot and was wondering if anybody would have/know how to get it. Psycho Savant has the best cover ever, it even beats the Razor covers.

NP: Rigor Mortis - Chained In The Attic

Apocalyptic Raids 09-21-2005 03:56 PM

The stuff about whiffle-thrash was in my Exodus thread.
Whiffle thrash, as practiced by bands like Sacred Reich and a thousand others, combines leftist-political and personal-violence lyrics with slightly weakened riffage, and a generally more poppy and upbeat production. While at times the work is still extremely enjoyable (Anthrax's "State of Euphoria"), there is also a huge potential for self-parody (Sacred Reich, "The American Way", Testament "Practice What You Preach"), and these efforts are not nearly as rotten-to-the-core as the thrash genre's evil progenitors: Slayer, Dark Angel, Kreator, etc etc...
