I listened to about half of it, and liked what I heard.

DBlitz 06-29-2008 09:05 AM

Recommend me some doom albums, new to the genre and I like Katatonia (The Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness), Candlemass (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus), Swallow the Sun (Hope) and if Amorphis counts (someone told me they are doom) I like Silent Waters. And I think thats about it.

I want to get Nightfall by Candlemass and Swallow the Sun's debut. I heard Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Doom:Vs are good. But haven't check any of em.

Iron Bars 06-29-2008 09:23 AM

My favorites (the ones you havent mentioned) are: Reverend Bizarre (if you like Candlemass) and Warning.

DBlitz 06-29-2008 09:36 AM

Thanks, but from the last few I've mentioned, which albums should I look into?
so i bought Sunn O)))'s Black One. Listened to it, liked it, blah blah blah.

so now, it's like 1:15am and I just got back from a walk around town listening to the album.

holy poop.

it's really cool how the random noises mix in with the "music" making it even creepier. Like, I walked over a bridge and at first I thought the sound of the water flowing was part of the recording. And then I walked past this factory and that was making all kinds of f-ed noises. And going through all these dark alleys, random air conditioners would get louder as I get closer and yea. cool ****.
I love that. Not just with Sunn O))) though, a lot of drone and ambient stuff. Good times. Good walks.

Doom:Vs is way different than the other stuff you listed.

DBlitz 06-30-2008 02:31 AM

In a good or bad way? I'll check them all out soon

the2stranger 06-30-2008 02:34 AM

In a good way.
Great music, but way slower and with death growls.

So disappointing they won't be doing anything else. :(

NP: Asunder - Twilight Amaranthine

Such a well crafted song.

masada 06-30-2008 05:05 PM

I know. :(

But actually listening to their music in lieu of K's death gives it an extra feeling of catharsis.
