I've been digging various things recently, one of note, 24 Black Carat's Ghetto: Misfortune's Wealth. It's some sort of crate digger type funk/soul stuff, more legendary for the samples ripped off it than for the actual quality of the music. Although I guess some people are kinda sprung off it. Anyways, the first couple tracks are kinda dull, all urbane with strings and whatnot. They don't do it for me for whatever reason. But there are some nice grooves tucked underneath. "24 Carat Black Theme" is especially good; it almost sounds like something off of Ege Bamyasi.

Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Pretty much every track on here is fantastic. "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" and "Subterranean Homesick Blues" in particular are insanely fun. |

Hot Cross Strung Out City & Colour Propagandhi |
Thanks for reminding me about Strung Out, I bought An American Paradox a while ago and still need to listen to it.
I've been digging the Aspects of Physics album that pixiesfanyo gave me. It's like Boards of Canada but not boring. |
i can't believe Apple sells "FM transmitters" and other docking gadgets that make iPods play in cars. my car is old enough to have a cassette jack, and i also have a cassette-shaped headphone jack thing that lets you play CD players or whatever through the speakers. i just plugged that thing into the iPod headphone jack and i have all my music for the long drive home :)
|
That's what I use too.
|
That's what I use for my $25 mp3 player.

They make The Polyphonic Spree look like Joy Division. |
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros.
Please tell me it's Streetcore. That album is sooooooo good. I'd go as far as to say it was as good as anything The Clash put out in their prime. |

Is it really? give me recommendations now plzkthx. |

Seen them live 3 times in 5 years and they're always, a;ways good value. Velvet Alley and Your Worst mistake are 2 of my favourite ever songs. |
I think I would like to see them live.
Just started listening to Dentists. So far so good. |
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Pretty much every track on here is fantastic. "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" and "Subterranean Homesick Blues" in particular are insanely fun.
It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) is the best thing he's ever written.
Please tell me it's Streetcore. That album is sooooooo good. I'd go as far as to say it was as good as anything The Clash put out in their prime.
Streetcore is great but I've been realling digging Global A-Go-Go especially Johnny Apple Seed, Mega Bottle Ride, Bhindi Bhagee and Cool 'N' Out. I've been listening to lots of Bill Hicks. Especially Rant in E-Minor and the I'm Sorry, Folks bootleg which is almost painful to listen to. |
Minus The Bear - Menos El Oso
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity How math-y of me.
I've been digging the Aspects of Physics album that pixiesfanyo gave me. It's like Boards of Canada but not boring.
Boards of Canada isn't boring. :( |
For a while they are super. But it wears off after 13 songs or so.
Dirty Three - Horse Stories Not my favourite post-rock band, but still a truly fantastic album. |
For a while they are super. But it wears off after 13 songs or so.
Not for me apparently. For me they wore 'on'. :p My last.fm says I've listened to them 1265 times. |
All that Radiohead talk makes me want to take out HTTT again.

Eden Maine - To You The First Star
Kind of like the bastard child of Converge, A little bit of Post-Rock, and someone like Isis. Really good stuff if you're into hardcore, and the more interesting bands in it. So I recommend you guys check it out. |
I'm really digging everything, because I have been reunited with my speakers, but in particular I am digging Let It Die by Feist, which is a record you should all have. It has Zappa approval, so get it.

And I made a copy of it for the girl whose locker is next to mine, and she really likes it too. |
Sweet. I was totally that guy in the days of lockers.

GY!BE
Mogwai Blood Brothers, still Chick Corea |
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool
I really enjoy this one. It's a shame that so many shoegaze releases are currently out of print. Pink Mountaintops - Axis of Evol A new one from Mr. McBean. My friend is going to open for them in a few weeks so I figured I'd give their new record a listen. |
Sylvester McMonkey McBean?
That may be a different Dentists.
The Dentists you listen to wrote Beautiful Day? |
I want some of this. Send it on AIM please?
I don't know your new screen name. IM me. |
... and you will know us by the trail of dead
Minus The Bear - Menos El Oso
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity How math-y of me.
That's crazy, I was listening to those exact two albums just the other day! Love em both, but for wildly different reasons. Minus the Bear proves that cool kids can make great music as well (instead of just the artsy outcasts and long-haired dropouts). And I don't think I could ever get tired of trying to explain how Calculating Infinity sounds, there are just so many ways to metaphorically describe the sheer chaos of that album. |

What do you Minus the Bear proves cool kids can make great music? One of them is an ex hardcore kid. |
Sweet. I was totally that guy in the days of lockers.
I was that guy for a while, but now I can't find anyone who wants to listen to any music I might give them. :( The Feist album is fantastic.
Muse - all their albums So far they are the most inconsistent band I've ever heard. A few great songs on each album, plus a bunch of awful ones.
But if you see them live, they play all the good ones. I can't listen to any of their albums since I saw them live though. |
What do you Minus the Bear proves cool kids can make great music?
One of them is an ex hardcore kid.
Their songs are mostly about parties, hanging out, and having fun. Or skinny dipping ;) |
What do you Minus the Bear proves
Duke Ellington - Ellington Uptown
As you may have read in the Community Thread, I just picked this 1953 release on vinyl today. It's one of the best jazz albums I've ever heard. Oh my goodness. |
Robert Pollard - From A Compound Eye
His first solo album post-GBV. It's a glorious 26 songs, 1 hr 10 minute behemoth. This is Pollard at his most creative and diverse. You can hear his range of sounds - from the lo-fi pop tricks to the psychedelia tinged rock anthems. A great album. |
Really Red - Teaching You the Fear
Bread and Roses - s/t The Dicks - Kill from the Heart Good Clean Fun - Straight Outta Hardcore Crucifu'cks - Our Will Be Done Yeah so i've been revisiting my old hardcore obsession. And Bread and Roses, which is some sweet folk punk. |
rockets and blue lights
awesome band, i dont' know much about them but there's a thread on them in the emo forum really great |
Listening to Clouds Taste Metallic now, seems pretty good.
|
Linda Perhacs
I like it. |
It was a pretty pretty Decemberists day, with a touch of Baby Huey (props to Bartender) and sprinkles of Marvin Gaye.
