I considered black tuners, however I already dished out a bit on the new gotoh bridge so I can't be screwed now.

gaslight 11-24-2009 09:45 AM
Tobacco sunburst & tortoise shell are much more common than black and tortoise shell.
Yeah, that too. 'Round my way the most common combo I've seen for basses with pickguards is black and turtle but that's just a local thing.

funkyhoney 11-24-2009 09:46 AM

I'm actually going to try and paint my pickguard red.

That's because black and turtle is nice.

I think it's really because somebody realized long ago that black and rosewood look like sh*t together, but it was cheap, so they put on a disgusting vomit-colored pickguard that was shiny to detract attention from the horrific-looking bass.

That, or somebody just hates bassists. I really can't think of the last time I've seen a black guitar with a tort pickguard.

funkyhoney 11-24-2009 09:59 AM

Incidentally when was the last time you saw a decent looking guitar fullstop? Other than the "classic designs" - tele, strat, les paul, SG etc. They generally are outrageous looking things with grotesque colours.

I quite like the look of PRS guitars and most Ibanez guitars, but you're right, I like the Les Paul style most. Plus, they sound so gooood.

Mr. Pickle 11-24-2009 10:09 AM

Bright, bold colors are better than shitty blacks and whites.

gaslight 11-24-2009 10:13 AM

I have a lovely looking PRS it's white body, turtle pickguard, rosewood fretboard.

My guitarist has a les paul and a tele. All you'll ever need :smoke:

I'm wanting a stingray/sterling or a P special. I think I'll never want another bass for purposes other than collectables then. Although an acoustic would be nice.

gaslight 11-24-2009 10:16 AM

Haha, collectable basses. Like baseball cards except they cost a few grand each. Bless 'em.

If I can snap up an acoustic bass and a 5 string fretless I'll be done for basses other than collectables. Then we can high five.

I really find my Stingray to be a one-trick pony. I much prefer a P-bass for slapping or fingerstyle. However, nothing beats a Stingray with steel strings for a pick tone.

Give you my Musician for a Babe Ruth :smash:

I want an acoustic, and one other nice electric, most likely a P/P special to match my jazz.

Yeah Ray's are a bit like that. I really need a bass with a nice fast neck. Jazz with a P neck is a bit... Eh, sometimes haha.

I want a P special body with a 24 fret Jazz neck.

I like the P-neck.

Fender made the spacing too wide at the bridge and too narrow at the nut. They need to stop that sh*t.

funkyhoney 11-24-2009 10:23 AM

Oh, by the way.

Using that link bypasses the splash screen as it isn't ready yet, but have a poke around. Ironically enough we're completely redoing the design after new years.

Fair enough. I really just want at least one bass with a fast neck for punky type stuff.

I'm considering just modifying my Cort Gb34a a bit, it's great to play and well built, just a bit dodgy pups/electronics.

Although I could buy an Artisan.

Will only trade for mint condition Shoeless Joe Jackson rookie card.

Don't lie. You want my Musician bad

I'll let you play it if I move to Sydney.

I'd look into a Peavy T-40 or a Gibson Grabber. They seem to have great punk-tones and really fast necks.

Bahahah. You're a bad text liar.

funkyhoney 11-24-2009 10:35 AM

Anyway I'm out, I have to try and sleep at least.
