I really like some of the riffs on both Beg and Whisper, I don't think they lost the ability it's just different.

How so? I really enjoyed it...

Synth-strings sound really melodramatic and cheesy. If they would get a thicker/more realistic sound or replaced the synth with guitar it would be way better. Or they should just be used less.

The clean vocals are also pretty lame, especially when they're mixed with the growling. I usually don't like the dual rasp/growl thing either.

Garden of Shadows is some good keyboarded death metal.

Keyboards don't belong in death metal, unless it's blackened death metal, IMO.

It's not really that they don't belong, just that no bands know how to use them properly.

I think a lot of bands can pull it off, and if a band can't pull it off, they fail.

Depresy is a good example of really great death metal that also incorporates keyboards.

Depresy sounds like a newly evolved pokemans.

The Faceless have THA BRUTALIST keyboardz.

I'm listening to Capharnaum and the Suecof brothers are so good.

That reminds me of a convo I had with my one friend last night:

But yeah, the Suecoff brothers are freaking talented as hell.

Heafy isn't even that bad on this album. I mean he's not that good but you barely notice him.

I think his vocals sound raw as hell and fit really well tbh.

I actually kinda like Heafy's screaming at some points.

But the guitar leads are just so catchy man. It's no wonder Suecof has to solo on every album he produces since I mean he's good at it.

Yeah, he's very very good, especially for a dude in a wheelchair.

I love how the last bit of Refusal is Capharnaum playing Meshuggah better than Meshuggah plays Meshuggah.

On the topic of keyboards in death metal, I have heard a lot of good things about Lykathea Aflame, are they worth looking into?

theyre awesome but their production kind of kills all chances of listening to them more often than once in a while
