Are Spiritual Beggars worth listening to?
They're alright. I wouldn't mind if I never hear them again, but I also wouldn't mind if they came up on a random playlist.

SteelErectedb4you8er 12-04-2009 07:41 PM

Spiritual Beggars are good, I like them. There are really two albums of theirs that I listen to alot. Ad Astra and On Fire. Mantra III is good also. It depends on what singer and style you want. Everything they did before On Fire had Spice on vocals (Mushroom River Band) and had more of a dirty style of stoner. Where when JB joined, On Fire and on kind of has more of a Deep Purple vibe to it. If you like both, and you love stoner rock, check out Ad Astra and On Fire to see which one you like better.

I just read Grand Magus signed to Roadrunner and have a release coming in the summer. I don't know, I thought Wolf's Return had some awesome material. I like them all, but s/t is the weakest, I think it has to do with the production.

I've never heard On Fire, but the DP mention has me curious.

Jaundice 12-19-2009 08:58 AM

clearly oceanic is isis' best, followed closely by in the absence of truth

Txus 12-19-2009 10:29 AM

in the abscence of truth is boooooooooooring

Nepenthe 12-19-2009 10:34 AM

nononononono its so good. i could listen to the drums alone and be fully entertained.

Txus 12-19-2009 10:36 AM

you dont like panopticon much btw? weird

and idk, in the abscence is the only isis album i rarely listen to

Nepenthe 12-19-2009 10:41 AM

panopticon is great, my 3rd favorite. there just isnt any super standout tracks on it for me, like say the beginning and the end or dulcinea.

the drums are probably the reason i like absence of truth so much. theyre just incredible. and i think aarons voice was at its best on that album as well.

Txus 12-19-2009 10:45 AM

Panopticon holds my 2 favorite isis songs, So Did We and Grinnning Mouths

Gonna listen to Absence of truth in a bit, lets see if i like it more now

It's probably my least fav Isis album. It sounds like they wanted to sound like tool on that album to me idk. My fav is probably Panopticon followed closely by Oceanic. New one is pretty cool.

Really digging Doom:VS.

Giving them a first listen.

rasputin 12-27-2009 06:33 PM

they're pretty good but got boring relatively quickly. the debut is also much better than the second album, which was a snoozefest

gmoneyguy 12-27-2009 09:55 PM
Bros what's some good Aidan Baker solo stuff?
I second the Sea Swells a Bit recommendation.
