I think of that it is the singer whose Mikael is very good. Does Opeth why obtain such many comparisons in the wood of the porcupine? I those presume that it is both progressive. As for me you were disappointed with Absentia with ". "
The two are often compared because Steven Wilson of PT produced, co-wrote and co-performed some Opeth music. His voice is a bit similar to Akerfeldt's as well. Not that many people notice that Bleak is a duet between the two. |

I didn't know until I read it somewhere. :upset: |
I read somewhere that Master's Apprentices was a ripoff of another song. Someone said the ripoff was from Morbid Angel's God of Emptiness but i dont know. Does anyone know?
|
Every song you've ever heard is a rip off of the first song ever written.
God I love that song, seriously...the mood on Orchid cannot be topped. IDGAF. I can't decide which I like most, Orchid or Morningrise. As soon as I come to a conclusion, I always question myself a few weeks later  I can't decide! I guess it all depends on what season it is, and what my brain pattern decides at that particular moment.
N.P. Under The Weeping Moon.
Yeah, I love Orchid as well... it has something their newest ones just don't have... It's an amazing album with an amazing atmosphere, though I do prefer Morningrise, Still Life, and MAYH to it. Under the Weeping Moon is great, too... my favorite part is the soft part near the end, when Mikael sings, "Burn the winter..." |
I'm stuck on a tie between Morningrise, MAYH, and Still Life... all sooooo good.

Same here. those are my top 3 |
Anyhow...
Is it me or am I witnessing the birth of an Opeth Fanboyism? Don't get me wrong, I love Opeth, I have a lot of their songs in my favorite of all time, etc. But There's a growing fanboyism just like all the other big bands out there. Please try to be objective here. I'm being as objective as possible. On one hand, there's the subjective view of mine in the subject: I love every single song that Opeth has in its repertory. Even the ones that aren't particularly loved, especially stuff out of Ghost Reveries (Reverie/harlequin forest comes to my mind) and Damnation (such as Death whispered a lullaby) I think they are pretty good, nonetheless some people talk about "the old days" of Opeth... I don't know. It's kind of weird. Please correct me if wrong. Or support me somehow. |

It just goes to show there are a lot of people out there with good taste. I'm happy with Opeth as long as their next studio album doesn't sound like Ghost Reveries. |
Some really cool video interviews with Akerfeldt.

I think both Morningrise and Blackwater Park have now gone up a few notches and are tied with Still Life for my favorite Opeth album.
What do you mean by Opeth fanboyism? Every band has fanboys. |
I'm stuck on a tie between Morningrise, MAYH, and Still Life... all sooooo good.
No love for Orchid :upset: I went back and listened to some newer albums, and I do see what you were talking about with the difference in growling. The growls on Blackwater Park are very deep, and very cool. |
I think the vocals on Ghost Reveries are the best though, the music on the otherhand isn't their best work, you know?
|
His range is like 2 octaves, almost average. The only thing I really like about his voice is his death growl, otherwise not really that talented voice wise.
Don't get me wrong I love Opeth and I think Mikael has a good emotional quality to his clean voice but I don't think it's praiseworthy.
Not praiseworthy?? Seriously? Especially with the new album, I think he's got amazing pitch control. Granted, he wasn't too strong before BWP, but recently he's developed one of my favourite singing voices ever. Range doesn't do much for me.. Opeth wouldn't benefit from a high falsetto. Just listen to Hours of Wealth or Isolation Years.. his voice is at its best. |

A high falsetto isn't very hard to do and now that you mention it I think they could even benefit from it if used tastefully. Like at the end of this one Dredg song, I believe it's CWA's self-titled song, the soft falsetto is awesome. I think Opeth would sound good with a little bit of that. |

Have you seen Lamentations? And I doubt Mikael can't sing well in falsetto.. He most likely doesn't feel it fits the music |
If you listen to Damnation Moses you'd realize what an idiot you look like right now.

No need for getting rude.. And I'd be suprised if moses haven't heard damnation

I rekon his range is surely more than 2 octaves. The falsetto from that song compared to his lowest growl? I've even heard him sing pretty low notes before. Singing to me is pretty much all about the emotional quality. Music being about emotion and all; Mikael singing passionately within an octave would probably do more for me than a huge multi-octave sweeping melody from an Opera singer, which I would get little or no emotional feeling from. Anyway, Mikael can sing very well live too, while playing guitar, which I find pretty impressive, especially given some Opeth guitar parts. |
Yeah. I was surprised that he thought MAYH was shit when he first made it.
Yeah, and who would have known that the writing/recording sessions for Deliverance/Damnation were so stressful. |
No need for getting rude.. And I'd be suprised if moses haven't heard damnation
It wasn't that rude, and it's true too. Also, Moses, it's definately not production that makes his voice sound good: Death Whispered a Lullaby (live) ooh, while searching, I came upon this again: Some highschool band covering Master's Apprentices |

I have AOL, that explains it. |
God dude, cancel AOL and go with mfire or something, seriously, nearly every 56k provider is cheaper and better than AOL. Or upgrade to DSL or Cable...

I have cable. Tell my dad to switch. :\ However, at college I have a much better connection and Firefox. :D |
What's the difference with Firefox? I've heard amazing things about it but I don't really get what it does.
