Jaundice 11-30-2009 10:29 PM

this frank tuvey and boyd rice album reminds me of a lite version of early severed heads

Meatplow 11-30-2009 10:36 PM

I listened to Rotund For Success, pretty good.

Jaundice 11-30-2009 10:39 PM

catchy as hell

you should really try their early stuff, it's like pure industrial with roots in sound manipulation and musique concrete, no synths.

Meatplow 11-30-2009 10:44 PM

i'm thinking of going on a binge of them and SPK, for something more on the aussie front

Jaundice 11-30-2009 10:45 PM

i havent listened to SPK yet, I have some of their stuff tho

Meatplow 11-30-2009 10:47 PM

I found both Information Overload Unit and Leichenschrei impressive. I'm surprised how many film scores Graeme Revell went on to compose.

Txus 12-01-2009 02:38 PM

We need more Spiritual Front talk in here.

Armageddon Gigolo is such a great album.

And **** my pussy hard
I'll pour my juice right on your face
While you eat out my cunt

Aaron 12-03-2009 06:43 PM

Need more danceable IDM in this thread. Give me grooves that bump and glitch, bitch.

Meatplow 12-03-2009 07:29 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V1kQmm1xCM

idk about bumping and glitching (I like more moderately paced EBM) but this is a favourite of mine Aaron. I like this group called Endless Shame at the moment, Unspoken Words is kinda fruity and gothic but I like it.

Well considering most of the artists themselves have beef with the term and its named after an electronic music mailing list surely you can't blame the music for what it has been labelled by the fans and press. Your beloved krautrock faced a similar situation, I believe. I try not even to use the term electronica anymore out of fear of facing the brunt of some elitist headphone wearing **** who manages to be even far more anal about electronic music then any metal fan is about metal so I try to avoid the term IDM where I can but I can't deny that it serves a nice purpose as a sort of umbrella term for several artists that will help most people know who you are referring to at least.

I'm still not that completely sold on it but out of what I have extensively listened to Autechre and Boards of Canada are my favourite artists of that particular ilk and Chris Clark is creeping up there, his work is impressive. I never saw the big deal with Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, although I really like some of their stuff. I like a few albums here and there from Mrs. Jynx, Wisp, Stendeck etc. and I would like to check out more.

FatalEnergy 12-05-2009 03:58 AM

Anyone know if Sigillum S is worth hearing? I liked what little I've heard.

Aaron 12-05-2009 04:06 AM
no aaron we do not need IDM in here

industrial thread is for intense sound collage and gothic synth lines
There was IDM in here before you were born.

Meatplow 12-05-2009 04:36 AM

Aaron is the IDM granddaddy.

I've never heard of that act FatalEnergy, i'll look into them.

Frontline Assembly - Plasticity

manipulated to circumvent WMG by yours truly

Glitterati 12-05-2009 06:51 AM

Would Big Black fit into this discussion? Because I've been listening to Songs About ****ing a lot lately.

Meatplow 12-05-2009 06:54 AM

yeah we seem to talk noise rock and post-punk in here on occasion

get Atomizer Liam, it rules. then get some Rapeman. I still gotta get Shellac.

RouteOne 12-05-2009 03:42 PM

Yeah no band has ever liked being categorized into any genre.

They either like to go with something very vague like "rock" or there are those who want to make up their own genres like future pop, awkward pop or industrial jungle pussy punk (mindless self indulgence)

kitsch 12-05-2009 09:39 PM

i listen to stars of the lid almost nightly as im falling asleep. best ambient artist ever

Ventriloquist 12-05-2009 09:47 PM

*one of the best. I've been sleeping to Tired Sounds a lot last week.

Something I was ****ing around with earlier, need to mix it better and expand it. Sounds like complete garble unless i'm listening to it through headphones, then its still garble but feels like I can take it somewhere.

Ventriloquist 12-06-2009 07:15 AM

Nice, where are the voice samples from?

Meatplow 12-06-2009 07:29 AM

ancient british exploitation film What Became of Jack and Jill?

i'll try cutting up those noise loops to make them more defined
haha awesome

did you listen to that album yet alex?
which one ?

the only Boyd Rice I've listened to was Easy Listening, i might need to give it another listen to be sure but i remember it being really elementary and gimmicky .

Txus 12-08-2009 01:52 PM

You should listen to some Current 93, Alex.

Jaundice 12-08-2009 01:55 PM

i'm pretty terrified of listening to neofolk but i suppose there's a time and a place for everything.

what's a good album?

Txus 12-08-2009 02:00 PM

Why the fear?

And I guess you could start with All The Pretty Little Horses.

Jaundice 12-08-2009 02:27 PM

You know how it is with me, i have crippling fears of the unknown. I'll check out that album tho, better be good.

Haz, you should listen to Negativland. Krautrock-inspired sound collage goodness. Some of their songs actually really remind me of Cripples Crossing Highways.
