Dark beers/ales make me sick these days. So so dark sodas. I don't know why. The only dark kind of beverage I can still stomach is Jagermiester.
http://indianabeer.com/NewsPics2003/News1121Lagerboy.jpg Oh, and lagers suck, even though I'm drinking one right now (since lagers tend to come in awesome prices for mass quantity). As for real beers: http://www.sheltonbrothers.com/images/beers/Arran_Blonde.jpg True Scottish ale brewed in the grim island that is home to the venemous-snake infested mountain called Goat Fell. My favourite beer, too. |

If it's ale and it's Scottish, it's worth a try. A lot of English ales are great too, of course. |
God Damnit stop talking about beer in the Death Metal thread.
|

Death metal is 20% music and 200% beer. |
Death metal is 20% music and 200% beer.
QFT. Although, methinks "death metal" and "music" are interchangeable in that sentence. |

Yea, but ya raised me in America.
A couple of years ago I was given a "4 beers from different parts of the world" sort of thing as a birthday gift; it included USA; Rolling Rock. Do you Americans seriously taste anything other than water when you drink that atrocity of a "beer"? |
Take it to the community thread... seriously.

Ok. Deathcrush, my response will be there.

I wholeheartedly choose to defy you. So, some Where No Life Dwells and beer sounds quite good right now. One of the first DM albums I was ever given (guitar "teacher" [a "teacher" was mandatory in order for you to get grades for your instrument, for some extremely stupid reason] gave me eight classic DM albums to get me headed in the right direction, back in schooldays) and it stayed my favoruite. The artwork, and everything about the album is maybe what sparked my interest in black metal. I haven't listened to it in ages; it's due time. |
Baphomet is kinda OK.
|
Baphomet is good stuff
|
Feels slightly linear.
|
Hmm?
|
Everything sounds the same within each song.
It's like... I don't know, like Doom, except I like Doom because of the ambience. |
Well it's old school death metal. Not much variation there.
|
Just got Legion in the mail. Good stuff so far.
|
S/T now
/holds knife to throat Do it >:[ |
I seriously didn't like the vocals on the samples I heard, Josh.....it's not a priority.
///pulls gun and shoots Josh in the head. What now. |
They're not really different :\
|
They sounded like it to me. That or the samples just really sucked. I'll check it out tonight.
|
I see. I'll try to appreciate as is. :-D

I love Where No Life Dwells.
I just blasted through Deicide's s/t at an unreasonable volume. I really love short death metal albums that are just completely relentless. |

Page 56 has being some of the best conversation in this thread ever...
Do people really appreciate music when they're downloading 10 albums a day? Do they really LISTEN to it? Do they have the same anticipation as they would if they were waiting for the postman to come to deliver a battered old manilla envelope containing a trade from a guy from the other side of the world who'd actually taken the time and effort to tape something and post it to you? Is it just background music to their latest internet battles? Or is listening to music an activity in itself? Do they savour every lyric, drum fill, solo, riff and bass lick? Do they try to understand the concepts behind the music? Do they invite their mates round for pissed up listening parties?
By hearing this I have become so much more happy with myself as I often discuss my poor knowledge in comparison to you fellas but I do feel that my slowness in exploring music makes up for the fact I know and love my music.
Do you feel that the internet has been responsible for disunity in the diminishing "scene" because any old person can order from the internet and get it and never be part of any "scene"?
Is this nessacrily a bad thing? I mean I have no metal mates apart from you all and thus am defientely no scenester. Thus, my opinions are mainly my own and like Jondur was saying with people being weak in scenes and changing tastes etc, my views are not really swayed by people who jump on the scene bandwagons. Well it depends what you mean by 'scene'. The real glory years of the metal scene (mid 80s for thrash, early 90s for death) had gone by the time I was going to gigs properly.
To be honest I don't think it's changed that much. People are still people - weak-minded and prone to being swayed by others opinions. Just look at how people dropped Death metal and bought corpsepaint and spikes. Back in 95 I'd get black metal tapes off people with letters and flyers banging on about "No Mosh" or "No sportswear death metal". I'm sure they're probably listening to Nile or that Cowboy band now.

I guess the difference was I'd sit down and actively listen to the music. I wouldn't be playing computer games - I'd be listening. And smoking. And probably drinking.
Haha, computer games are the bane of everything productive in this world haha. I stop writing and listening to music to play them haha. My best mate is like what you described. He is not really a metal head although he likes some DM I have showed him, he often just goes into his shed by himself, grabs a beer and a smoke and just listens to his CDs. I have alot of respect for that.
The problem with just giving stuff 1 spin is not just about production. I find that the more I know music, the more I enjoy it. There have been many instances where I've disliked music on the first spin, but it has grown on my like a tumor. THis is true for example with Absurd. First listen to Facta Loqu... and I thought it was ****. But a few more listens and it grew on me and now I love it, even after just 3-4 listens. Appreciating Deicide's Legion is not possible when it's too technical to know what's going on. When you listen to it again and again and learn the album you can know what's happening and you can enjoy it a lot more. Editz: Upon reflection, the effects of repeated listens are polarising. The more I listen to good stuff the more I enjoy it. The more I listen to bad stuff the more I realise it's ****, or I just find it annoying, or whatever....Repeated listens are important, Dargon!
I could not agree more Stevie. |
Stevie seems like a pretty smart guy.
|
Yeah, he is. He makes sense a large portion of time.
when we talk of beers what are we talking of?
I'm talking this size can http://hress.org/images/bm/fosters.jpg
Hahah Fosters, the Australian beer Australians don't drink haha. ;) Anyone who thinks they are tough for drinking more is a loser haha.
Budweiser is like having sex in a canoe...
^^^ HAHAHA YES, Python lol, "its fvcking close to water! So what do people feel when they listen to DM? For me, I listen to DM because I love music that falls under any of these catgories. Dark/Sad/Epic/Brutal/Harsh/Climatic/Beautiful (Not in a nice like calm poppy way, but it like a Beethoven kinda of way, brutal while beautiful) etc etc... When I hear DM, I feel a surge of adenerline or power when that epic part comes on, or an almost sick smile and perverse pleasure when they horribly evil riff hits my ears. When the music bulids up and you are hit with that riff the climax is just awesome. Such is way I love DM and my other musical loves. Anyone else feel the same on the matter? |
All I do anymore is listen to music and talk to people. I don't game anymore, music's taken over that portion for me.
|
Yeah they are not.
I love the Mexican Disgorge. Their goregrind era scare the poop out of me and their new stuff is amazing. I wish they still had Antimo, but the new guy is damn good too. |
