Wow, I really disagree. I mean, I felt like that about The Roots for the last three records, but I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. I think it's WAY out there compared to what they've been doing recently. I think the posthumous influence of J Dilla is what did it.
I'm definately gonna check the new record out then. They have so much potential, i've just been begging for them to change my mind.
If you're serious about this forum thing you should prove it to Jermany Ferwerda by making the hip hop listening party a huge success and making him put it on the front page of the site! http://www.sputnikmusic.com/HipHop
I didn't know there was a Hip Hop listening party, but yeah, lets do that. Edit: I just found out that People Under The Stairs are playing near me in October, anyone know anything about their live act? |

Dilla only did the beat on one of the tracks, the tribute to him. I don't see the vocals fitting the production at all; even on the excellent single I couldn't care less if Black Thought was singing or not. It sounds like Guru got hit in the head, started slurring his words, and was thrown in with the Wu-Tang Clan. He just sounds awkward throughout the whole CD. I like the beats, but they really need to get rid of the third wheel. Does Black Moon have any other CD's as good as Enta Da Stage? That one is truly excellent. |
They have so much potential, i've just been begging for them to change my mind.
keyword: potential...doesn't mean anything if it isn't actual, all talk no action...people waste their time on "potential" hoping for what could be when it never will be, so to speak...but yeah i think i'm going to upload that new album for you, so you can hear it and report back, i'm curious what you think...btw don't you hate those types, they have so much potential, but they just won't get rid of their "friends" "producers" or whatever is making them sound bad in your mind...and even though you know they could be greater, they just sit there and it doesn't blow you away or WOW you, it's like meh whatever, they're just "ok" |
Heh, thanks for offer dude, but i'm actually already downloading it. I'll let you know what I think though.
I don't really hate bands with potential, I just find them utterly frustrating. |
I like some Grime. What artists in particular are we talkin'?
Mitchell Brothers, Sway, Plan B that sorta stuff. I just find it amazing that the British public doesn't really care about UK artists much. Especially as the grime scene is thriving. |
Mitchell Brothers, Sway, Plan B that sorta stuff.
Yeah, well as I said earlier Dizzee Rascal is my favorite grime artist. He just seems to be a step ahead of most grime artists out there, with that said I like all 3 that you mentioned.
I've heard Sway is a really good live act and does a lot of improvisation, i'd like to see him one day. I like everything i've heard from Plan B, and downloaded his album earlier, so i'll check it out in a bit. Whilst he's pretty good, i'm doubtful that he can maintain my interest for a whole album, just way to angry. |
Bone Thugs & Harmony
Lil Wyte Master P - Ghetto D -- surprisingly pretty good. Completey ripped off though; I'm surprised that P gets away with it. |
I thought it was Bone Thugz n' Harmony?
So I've been thinking lately, and I don't really understand why some people seem to hold Sean Combs in high esteem. At least, it seems to be like that on television. |

So I've been thinking lately, and I don't really understand why some people seem to hold Sean Combs in high esteem. At least, it seems to be like that on television.
Most rap fans like the Notorious B.I.G. Puff Daddy helped make Biggie what he was. Then he did the formulaic approach to rap success (top of the line producers and hooks). |
I'm speaking more in terms of his lyrical/emcee abilities.
|
Which esteemed emcee actually deserves his credit in rap today?
|
Adman?

"Chicken Noodle Soup" suplants Lil' Wayne's "Go DJ" as the best song ever.
|
Adman?
I'm still trying to find that record. I've been looking for a while.
|
I heard a bit of Ludacris this morning and I was nearly violently sick.
|
I got Paul's Boutique from the library today, it's great.
|
Yeah it rules, I still prefer Ill communication though.
|

Check Smif 'n Wessuns Dah Shinin if you haven't done that yet. That's pretty much in the same vein. Actually, you can't go wrong with most early Boot Camp Click (the crew where Black Moon and Smif 'n Wessun are part off) stuff, most of it has that grimey new york mid-90s feel. I just listened to Jeru The Damaja's "The Sun Rises in the East" again. Been a while, I had forgotten how great it actually was. :) |
Yeah it rules, I still prefer Ill communication though.
lol. |
When people are amusing, they can get away with consistently bad posting.
|
Not really. But Eliminator is never amusing on the forum so he'll always get in trouble.
Rap/Hip-Hop discussion? Let's talk Eminem. :) His worst stuff I've heard is probably "Fack" and then "My Dad's Gone Crazy". Sheesh, with "Fack" you'd think that he was trying to make people not like him anymore and therefore not care if he retires. "My Dad's Gone Crazy" because his daughter was so young at the time her voice is completely unlistenable. I'm in love with his Greatest Hits though. Pretty much every song other than "Fack". Wonderful stuff. |
He writes some good pop songs, but he also writes songs like Ass Like that.
|
The Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP are excellent. I even enjoy parts of The Eminem Show.
/doesn't mention post-Eminem Show material. |
I still have yet to listen to Slim Shady or Marshall Mathers in their enitirty. What I have heard though is pretty fantastic, escpecially Kim which I would blast right now if my mom wasn't home.
New Lupe Fiasco single is really good. The beat isn't quite as good as Kick Push, but its still great stuff. |
I'm pretty sure that the song has been out as a single for awhile now.
I think next time I get some dinero Deltron 3030 may end up in my possession. |
Eminem has sorta fell out of favor with me because he's got a lot of great stuff but it turns me off when he does so much novelty stuff.
|
^Exactly. Some of his stuff is pure genius, but a lot of it is really dumb.
|
Anyone listened to the new Outkast album? what is it like? I havent really been listening to much hip hop for a few months now, really need to try and start listening to more of it. The Roots have a new album out too - need to listen to that too!
|
Never really liked the guy. Dunno.
|
IMO I loved Eminems first two albums, then just went off him, seemed to get too big headed after that.

I really like the new Outkast album. People don't seem to be too excited about it, and I'll admit by Outkast standards it's subpar, but still better than most bands. I'd say Speakerboxx/Love Below had a few songs that were better than anything on Idlewild, but wasn't as consistently good. |
cool, Ill definately have to get it then. ALways been a pretty big fan of Outkast.
|
You guys should try and find Eminem's Infinite. That album is pure gold.
|
cool, Ill definately have to get it then.
Yes, you will. I'd recommend the Roots album as well.

What's the best rap album of '06?
Nothing I have heard tops Fishscale. |
Either Murray's Revenge or Fishscale.
|
What's the best rap album of '06?

What about Meth's and Masta Killa's new album? |
