That's "Far Too Strong" from The Third Prophecy, easily the best song on the disc. Freddy's screams at 2.19 and 2.28 make my nerves tingle. So much power behind them.

Download it here.
Thanks a lot. I <3 that song.

****ing EPIC power with balls and killer vocalist
Dude, Panzer Batallion just fvcking slays. What are other power metal bands with low(er) (not growling) vocals, such as Sabaton?

Lord of Sword 07-02-2005 06:15 PM

i don't feel like searching all through this thread so i'll just ask anyway. but i heard san sebastien by sonata arctica a few days ago, and have downloaded 8th commandment and the video for wolf and raven since all of which i really like. so what would be some other songs of theirs for me to download? i'm also thinking of getting one of their albums, so i'd like some help in deciding which one, considering i've only heard these 3 songs of theirs.

Get Silence, that's a great album. Reckoning Night, their latest album doesn't have as many fast songs and crazy *** solos as Silence but it's still pretty amazing. It showcases SA's emphasis on ballads and beautiful songwriting greatly.

Skeksis 07-02-2005 11:16 PM

Does anyone here have Timo Tolkki's "Hym to Life"? I heard "Dear God" and I liked it a lot. How is the rest of the album?

Hail man, it's been a while since I last saw you here, hope you're doing well :).

I'm glad you like Sabaton but unfortunately I dont know anyone like him (no so far at least).

This old thread from the MA might be helpful:

http://www.metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=11110&highlight=reccomend+recommend+power+metal

My suggestion would be the mighty Slough Feg. Mike's vocals arent that low but they arent high pitched either. They're an incredible band.

/huge slough feg fanboy :p

EDIT

you'd better re-upload your avatar, it looks distorted

Brew 07-03-2005 04:56 AM
If you like the bardic and melodic elements of Blind Guardian, I recommend you look into Wuthering Heights and Lost Horizon respectively.

Unfortunately, I've had little luck in getting my hands on some Galloglass.

A couple other recommendations I'd give you would be Savatage, Tarot, Nightwish, and Manowar.

Savatage and Tarot have the more aggressive sound of Iced Earth, Manowar has strong heavy metal influences, and Nightwish are a very epic-sounding symphonic band.

For specific albums, I highly recommend:

Lost Horizon - A Flame to the Ground Beneath
Savatage - Streets: a Rock Opera
Tarot - Suffer Our Pleasures
Nightwish - Century Child
Manowar - Kings of Metal
I have 2 songs by Galloglass, I think I got them from their website.

I can upload if you want them.
Dragonforce!!!!!!!! \m/ \m/

Don't know any other power metal. But I once got an angra song and it was so da.mn gay I had to delete it. Right away. And then take a shower.
I'm fairly similar to you, at least to a certain extent. I'm going to see Dragonforce at Edinburgh Liquid Rooms with half my band, they're amazin' :D

I have heard some other stuff that I think is Power Metal...... Rhapsody? Stratovarius? Leviathan? Ring Of Fire? Emerald?

Yeah, I just read most of the time now, and rarely post. I've been meaning to check out Slough Feg since I've heard only good things about them, could you upload a song or two?
I like my avatar distorted, I got pissed off when I re-uploaded it - good thing the forums got fvcked up again.

Anyone have news on Iced Earth touring this summer? On their website it says they won't tour until summer 2005, and that's now! I need to see them play a show!

Help me out if you have any info. on this.

Have been getting into power metal a lot lately...does anybody else think Helloween kicks epic ass?

That's practically what this place is for, people who pretty much listen to everything they like, without a genre or label stepping in the way.

Steerpike 07-03-2005 01:00 PM

Every genre has something that anybody can enjoy. This place just makes it easier to find.

I totally agree, that's why BM and DM have watered down versions of the genres like melo-death and dimmu borgir/graveworm style BM

Steerpike 07-03-2005 01:20 PM

Personally, I was never a fan of the more extreme versions of either genre. Not my style. The "tr00" and "nekro" BM always had that production. It all sounds like they bootlegged it off of a cellphone voice mail box.

And brutal death metal... If I wanted a blasting wall of sound with an unseen voice to punish me for an imagined transgression, I would turn to religion

Ouch...not very religion-happy, are we?

True...uber tr00 black metal is CRAP...i like stuff with good production.

Death metal...hit or miss for me. Nile was the only death metal band i could really listen to for more than one song...

I've recently got into brutal death and/or grind (not all of it though). It's genius music if you can stand it.

IheartSP 07-03-2005 01:28 PM

I don't see why it's genious, grind is ridiculous if you ask me its just pure noise and brutal death is just supposed to be as heavy as possible, isn't music about melody? Isn't that what music is?

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 01:31 PM

Grind - It takes LOTS of skill to go that fast, especially on drums, and make it sound decent

Brutal Death - Listen to Nile's drummer...all i have to say.

Can you give me an example (meaning band) of "grind" metal? I'm just wondering if I've heard any.

Stoic 07-03-2005 01:34 PM

well it depends on the band. As far as the stuff I like is concerned, if you listen closely you'll find great amounts of melody even in the brutal death/grind riffage. A good idea is to listen to a powertab before listening to the actual song (this is how I got into at least 4 brutal death acts).

IheartSP 07-03-2005 01:35 PM

Yeah but drumming isn't music. I respect a grind drummers skill, they play some hard stuff. But you can play chromatics on guitar at 300 bpm 16th notes and I still won't wanna listen to it, no matter how hard it may be. Kai Hahto happens to be one of my favorite drummers, I think he's really good, and I've never heard any Rotten Sound stuff but I'd think in a band like that good drumming would go to waste as opposed to Wintersun where great drumming like that really adds.

Origin play technical death/grind (not pure grind though). Their riffs and the rhythmic sense of melody on the vocals is incredible, they leave me with an open mouth.

Best example is Napalm Death's first album - Scum.

And then, im pretty sure The Locust is grind...

Napalm Death mp3s

Click on audio (if it isn't already on audio) and scroll down to Napalm Death. Few mp3s, if I'm not mistaken.

ooooh, awesome, thank you! Great mp3s there. I've been wanting to hear Manntis ever since I saw Adaer in Battle for Ozzfest. ;) :D

Carcass also played grind before they split up.

Mastodon is a weird hybrid of grind, but their drummer (Branne Dahler I think was his name) is a beast behind that kit.

IheartSP 07-03-2005 01:45 PM

Mastodon is listed as progressive sludge

my pleasure!

Well found the Origin CD, it was inside the Spastic Ink case, who know where the Spastic Ink CD is! :p

Here's the song. I hope the drumming wont turn you off since some people find it monotonous. As for me, I find this kind of drumming enjoyable as long as it's not Hate Eternal.
