For a while I've been on a long Classic rock/Dead Head/acoustic binge, but recently I've been blowing the dust off my metal albums and listening to alot of that again, but I've been eager for new music. Now, after cruising this forum for a couple weeks I really want to hear some more black metal. The only background i have in black metal is old mans child, old dimmu borgir, some "Filsofem" Burzum songs, and (not saying they ARE black metal for anyone who would like to tell me otherwise) Cradle of Filth. If anyone could make any reccomendations, especially particular albums and songs, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Burzum, Behemoth, Black Funeral, Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone, Dark Funeral, Borknagar, 1349, Taake, (old) Samael, Dark Fortress, Dissection, Enslaved, Emperor, Forlorn, Hellebaard, Immortal, Imperial Crystalline Entombment, Judas Iscariot, Leviathan, Xasthur, Marduk, Mayhem, Melechesh, Mütiilation, Mystic Forest, Rotting Christ, Satyricon (Volcano=no), Spite Extreme Wing, Windir, Zyklon (World Ov Worms), Wyrd

any particular songs by Darkthrone, Immortal, Emperor, and Judas Iscariot?

Dancin' Man 03-06-2005 07:15 PM

I really like Emperor's later albums (Prometheus especially) but that's not really the old school black metal sound.

Get all of each bands cd's. Get Judas Iscariots "Heaven in flames" especially though.

Dancin' Man 03-06-2005 07:39 PM

I don't have any Judas Iscariot yet. I still have yet to ever hear them.

I know alot of you here probably don't really like mordern rock or nu-metal but i need some suggestions on morden rock bands. My band is going to enter a talent show and We were thinking of doing a cover of some mordern rock song which is abit mainstream but still unknown to many people...Lyrics have to be clean too.....and its best if the guitar is in standard d tuning which makes it so much easier to play chords(our guitarist is good but he's abit sloppy joe on chords ) So can anyone please give me suggestions...thanks.

the2stranger 03-09-2005 09:01 AM

try Porcupine Tree, one of the GOOD rock bands, at the moment
or
Radiohead, Saybia, the flower kings
or otherwise

pff, and the level drops

Jet
Maroon 5
Franz Ferdinand
the darkness ( they're quite good actually)

enjoy

I ca see why people like them, but personally they bore me somewhat. Some of the songs get repetitive.

yo guys, was going to go to ozzfest this year, but west palm got cancelled due to the hurricanes. Im gonna need some....

Judas Priest
Black Label Society
Slayer
Atreyu

also, if you can think of any better ozzfest bands that were on ozzfest, i'd appreciate you list those. (i got black sabbath, slipknot, and hatebreed covered.)

EDIT: Not on ozzfest, but i like the way they sound, Rob Zombie.

MAthiAS 03-09-2005 02:53 PM

For Slayer, check out these songs:
Angel of Death
Postmortem
Raining Blood
South of Heaven
Mandatory Suicide
Agressive Perfector

and the albums Reign in Blood and South of Heaven are my favorites of Slayer, though Hell Awaits is considered pretty good (though I don't like it much) and Seasons in the Abyss is worth picking up.

Please recommend the best Rush songs you can think of, I've never heard any before

(PS I like both prog metal and rock / classic rock, eg Dream Theater and Led Zep, to give you an idea the kinda music you might recommend)

Silenius 03-09-2005 06:15 PM

YYZ is a good Rush song.

LarsAgi007 03-09-2005 06:24 PM

The Amazing Verticalville – Totally awesome. First off they have no vocals. This may sound kind of shocking, but it works so well. It's basically Guitars, fast fast drums, and a little bit of synth. Without vocals they compensate by playing really **** fine melodic guitar. It's just all over the place and hyperactive as hell at times, but their selftitled album does have some more lulled parts. It's very experimental and somwhat prog, but their experimentation doesn't overtake their creativity and sound.

I encourage anyone to try and hunt this album down. I think there are some websites you can order it from. Personally I would have never found out about them if my friend (his friend knows the band) hadn't showed me their CD. There really isn't a good band I can compare them to; thy just have such a sound that's all their own. I so desperately want to hear others opinions on this CD. I'd be willing to share this CD on AIM or just give some songs away. The entire album is only 9 tracks and under 40 minutes long.

AIM: samtheruntkake

Edit: I've just been informed that they sound similar to Hella.

^Sounds like it could be good, I may check them out later (when I have more time :().

Freak Out! or Hot Rats.

Mister_Che 03-10-2005 02:08 PM

I need Some recommendations. Only one CD from each band though:

Iron Maiden
Megadeth
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Mars Volta

munky_magik 03-10-2005 02:12 PM

Megadeth:
Thrash sound: Rust in Peace
Metal sound: Countdown to extinction
Alternative(ish) sound: Crytpic writings

I know you said one only, but these are the three that best represent their different styles so pick One.

Mahavishnu Orchestra:
Birds of Fire - is a great album but the only one that I'm really familiar with. Try asking in the jazz forum.

My Chemical Romance
Smashing Pumpkins
Weezer
Social Distortion
Sum 41
The Killers
