Yeah. Waters was/is messed up. Brilliant, but I much prefer the personality of Gilmour.
|
I like them both equally.
|
The best was Nick Mason! The real musical genius behind Pink Floyd.
|
++Oedipul complex
Hardly. Nick Mason the genius behind PF? :amaze: |
I'd say Rick Wright was the musical genius of the band. But he didn't seem to contribute as much as the others, so it rarely shined threw. But some of the early songs he wrote during the transition years are great.
|
Have you ever heard Wright's solo stuff? Really amazing.
|
Riva, weren't you going to get a gmail account and email me some of Wright's solo stuff...? *shakes fist* Oh, by the way, I was definitely kidding about the Nick Mason being the genius thing.

you were supposed to send some to me too  |
I think we should start a riot until Riva sends the songs out.

G-Mail is on my shit list.
Waters wrote the lyrics, but Gilmour added the musical soul to the songs.
Gilmour came up with the chord progression and melody to Comfortably Numb before Waters had the lyrics to it. ABITW pt.2 would have just been plain old guitar strumming if Gilmour didnt add the disco feel to it. Dogs is great lyrically, but Gilmours amazing guitar work made it amazing. So basically, they complemented each other very well.
Obviously your a big Gilmour fan. I just value the lyrics more I guess. |
Alright, for anyone who is still in the dark about DSOTM and Wizard Of Oz, you start the album at the third roar of the MGM lion at the beginning of the movie (preferably the special edition DVD).

And its supposed to sync how?? |
Also, for anyone who thinks the sync was meant to work, let me set you right once and for all.
The band said they didn't plan it! NO ONE involved with the making of the album has even HINTED that it was planned. And if you think its some vast conspiracy, here's the final nail in the coffin. The sync doesn't even work with the VHS and the vinyl record! And considering there was no DVD or CD at the time, its IMPOSSIBLE for them to have planned it. Case closed. |

Ooo, thankers :) I believe there's also some DVD that plays them both, one out of each speaker if you have 2 speakers. |
I know, but I am still sick of everyone who hears it
a) Posting it outside of this thread b) Asking the same moronic questions. I just had to post it, after that last thread in R&M. |
Is the Echoes/2001 synch any good?
|
Haven't tried that one. Might be cooler because Echoes is mostly instrumental so it'd compliment it nicely, rather than synch up. Unless I have no idea what you are talking about...
|
Who do you guys think had the best solo career?
I really cant comment, since I have only heard Gilmour's solo stuff. -Vote for Gilmour |

I read this in a "music with references to literature" thread. Someone said that "Animals" was about George Orwell's novel [u] Animal Farm [u]. Is this true?
Awesome book, and awesome album. |

Awesome book, and awesome album.
yes its true, yes it has been discussed before. |
Is the Echoes/2001 synch any good?
Well, apparently, Waters was approached to make a song for the ending of the movie. He declined, but he and the band regretted the decision once the movie came out, and they saw how mind blowing it was. So they made sure the keystone of their new album would be what the song for the ending of 2001 would have sounded like if they had written it. I'm pretty sure that's how it went down.
Who do you guys think had the best solo career? I really cant comment, since I have only heard Gilmour's solo stuff. -Vote for HeavyRiva
Well, I have only heard Gilmour and Wright, but I think Gilmour has the more succesful career, although Wright certainly improved once he got out from under Waters' thumb. |
Oh, and boys, I shall be trying my uni e-mail, rather than my gmail account, since gmail is so damned annoying.
|
Gilmour definatly.
Just on a topic that has probably been brought up before, how ever many times i listen to Com. Numb, and Thin Ice, i like it even more. I think they are so good. Just listening to different parts, and isolating the instruments when you hear it. ANyone feel the same about any Pink songs? |
Hmm... I heard something about that Echoes plannsed as the "end" of 2001, but I'm a little skeptical about it, since it was never mentioned in the biography I read, and because Echoes is built on 36 seperate ideas that were compiled into one song. Could still be true though.
On a side note, whats this about Vote Gilmour/Guitrguy/HeavyRiva for top R&M poster? I'm confused. |

I discovered this while reading about Animals last night. Might be of use.

Yes, Brian and I only edited Aaron's post, because he is a advertising spam whore, and we aren't. :)
I see what you mean about the link, magicbus. Looks quite interesting. Good to see you posting in here more often as well. :) |
The Sex Pistols weren't really all that politically charged, they just supported anarchy for shock value. Animals is a very political, "punk rock attitude" type of album. Reminds me somewhat of something The Clash would write.
