- have I downloaded the right song? or is all of celtic frost like this, this was rather good.
- no BM vocals? - guitars sound great -nice drumming, not difficult, but fitting. - too bad the solo is only so short :upset: - lots of links with early metallica, IMO. - nice vocals. - lyrics get repetitive though will I check out more? if all of CF is like this, I will. so can anybody tell me, is all of CF with those lyrics? thanks. score: 7,5/10
??? I don't know what dodgy version you got, mine's 4:20 long, with a long chanting thing at the start. Did it say 'Into the Crypts of Rays' in it? |

In Flames - Jotun
I've heard most of In Flames work, but not this one and the name got my interest. Starts off with some regular In Flames riffing, heavy rhythm and melodic leads. Goes over in some faster, almost tremolo style picking on the E string(or C or D:p). Vocals start normal, then they go over into the standard Gothenburg growl, guitars are ripping it up in the background, drums are good, but sadly almost no bass. New riff, and a heavily reverbed guitar enters and plays a spaced out lead, this is very good. Back into the clean verse, then over to the growled part, which is very good, he has a deep growl which I think is cool. The guitars are very melodic. Now comes a galloping riff, very headbangable, sadly its only a bridge over to the growled verse. Solo enters now, it follows the main theme, a bit short but its good. Song fades out. 6.5/10 It was good, but In Flames can do so much better. Here is some metal: Susperia - Chemistry(Heavy Metal) Griffin - Praise the Rain(Melodic Metal) After Forever - My pledge of Allegiance(Doom Metal) Moonsorrow - Pakanajuhla(Folk Metal) Iron Maiden - Dance of Death(NWOBHM) |

Susperia - Chemistry
After a lot of effort I finally found a song. Here it is:
Susperia - Chemistry The song starts out with a rolling intro, which repeats itself while the drumming and power chords begin. Sort of a mix between Thrash and Nu-metal. Then the melody changes to a more aggresive sound full of thrashy goodness. After a short while the singer comes in, with a voice that sounds reminiscent of Slayer. I'm guessing these guys have a real thrash influence. (Just a hunch... ) The lyrics seem pretty silly, I'm guessing they relate to drugs. The songs chorus is basically the same as the verse, so it sounds pretty repetitive. Then we get treated to the intro being played as the bridge. A sort of solo gets played a short while later; I say sort of as it's basically the lead playing a variation on the intro a bit higher. Then the power chords come crashing down, and the song ends... My thoughts: This song was pretty much Thrash inspired Nu-Metal all the way. It wasn't bad... but I don't think I'll be in a rush to find more of their work. I give it 6.5/10 My Picks: Beatallica - And I'm Evil (Heavy Metal Parody) In Flames - The Jester Race (Melodic Death) Australian Crawl - The Boys Light Up (New Wave Rock) Arghoslent - Flogging The Cargo (Melodic Death) Manowar - Hail And Kill (Power Metal) Skyhooks - Smut ('70s Rock) Alex Lloyd - Black The Sun (Popular Rock) Silverchair - Steam Will Rise or Suicidal Dreams (Grunge) AC/DC - Razor's Edge (Hard Rock) Jet - Come Around Again or Look What You've Done (Rock) Powderfinger - Whatever Makes You Happy (Popular Rock) Exonerate - Mountains Of Madness (Heavy Metal) |

ok, The Jester Race, In Flames
Pretty cool intro with some melodious guitar over some heavy riffs Nice voacals, and very catchy lead riffs, very true to the melodic side of death metal. I love the riffs to this song. Kind of mediocre chorus though. Now a cool bridge part, with some more cool riffs. Now everythng just seems to be repeating. Oh no wait, theres a weird synth voice thingy in the middle of it. Now theres a solo. Pretty good stuff, again very melodic. Finishes strong with awsome riffs and growls. Then stops. Really cool, this is the only In Flames cd I havn't heard anythng from. I definately want to check it out. 9/10 Check Blood of Kingu- Therion (symphonic opera metal) Signify- Porcupine Tree (Insturmental Prog Hard Rock) This Apparatus Must be Unearth- Mars Volta- (psychedelic prog rock) Chaos- Pigmy Love Circus (prog rock) A Lazerus Envy- On Broken Wings (metalcore, good Metalcore though) |
Really cool, this is the only In Flames cd I havn't heard anythng from. I definately want to check it out.

Motley Crue - Primal Scream
Motley Crue - Primal Scream
Nothing like some hair metal. OK, the song starts out with a steady drum beat, and then kicks into an '80s Hair Metal fest of power chords, etc. The vocalist comes in, singing some of the cheesiest lyrics I've ever heard. (Even Manowar pales compared to this. :p ) The chorus doesn't really differ from the verses, just a different melody over the same power chords. The solo is fun, but hardly earth shattering. I like this song though. There isn't much to say about it, as it's your average, cheesy Hair Metal song, but I'm a sucker for these types of songs. Everything might be basic, but it blends together well. I'm giving it 7/10. Add 1 if you are drinking beer while you listen. Add 1 if you have a mullet. I might listen to some more if I came across it. My picks are: Beatallica - And I'm Evil (Heavy Metal Parody) Meat Loaf - Heaven Can Wait (Blues Rock) Australian Crawl - The Boys Light Up (New Wave Rock) Arghoslent - Flogging The Cargo (Melodic Death) Manowar - Hail And Kill (Power Metal) Skyhooks - Smut ('70s Rock) Alex Lloyd - Black The Sun (Popular Rock) Silverchair - Steam Will Rise or Suicidal Dreams (Grunge) AC/DC - Razor's Edge (Hard Rock) Jet - Come Around Again or Look What You've Done (Rock) Powderfinger - Whatever Makes You Happy (Popular Rock) Exonerate - Mountains Of Madness (Heavy Metal) |

I could only find Manowar on a modem connection, and I haven't got all day. So looks like it's Silverchair for me.
Silverchair - Suicidal Dreams Lovely name for a song. Not attention seeking or depressing at all. The intro is trademark sub-Alice In Chains grunge. Nothing new here. The vocals of the singer (he married to Natalie Imbruglia, right?) are like a whinier Eddie Vedder. The melody's not bad. The verse merges monotonously into the chorus - if he didn't sing the song title, I'd never know it was the chorus at all. The lyrics are stanard grunge fare too. I have a name for stuff like this - Dawson's Creek Grunge. Or, even, Generic Teen Movie Soundtrack Grunge. It ends with feedback and a pick scrape. And we're done. This song could easily have been written and peformed by a college band in their 3rd week together. Nothing to recommend it, unless you're a complete grunge affaciando and need to own everything from the genre. 4/10. Shame, because I quite enjoyed Anthem For The Year 2000. My recommendations - LostProphets - Cry Me A River (Justin Timberlake cover, done in a rock style) Within Temptation - Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush cover, again in a rock style) Within Temptation - Ice Queen (Nightwish-style power metal) Within Temptation - Mother Earth (Nightwish-style power metal) Kinesis - Everything Destroys Itself (Punk) Queensryche - I Don't Believe In Love (80's progresive metal) Manic Street Preachers - Slash N Burn (Glam Punk) Manic Street Preachers - Faster (Hard Rock) |

Queensryche - I don't believe in love
I've heard some of Queensryche and it reminds me of Hammerfall, which is a good thing. Intro starts with two guitars, soon the bass enters with a galloped riff. After a few seconds the song goes calm, with clean guitars. The vocalist has a good voice and he is on key, the song is about someone who lost a girl that loved him, but he didn't realize that before its too late. The lyrics are actually well written, even though it sounds like a cliché. The chorus is pretty heavy, but slow. Drums are simple but they suit the song well. The guitars have light distortion and the riff is fairly complicated. A solo enters, its fast and melodic. He is running high on the fret board, it sounds good. Soon a harmonized guitar enters and they finish off the solo together. Back to the chorus. The song ends with a breakdown of sorts. The song was good, I really enjoyed it. 7/10 Kalmah - Heroes To Us Children of Bodom - Kissing the Shadows Norther - Blackhearted All are power metal with growled vocals. |

Children Of Bodom - Kissing The Shadows
Wow. This song doesn't start with any sort of intro it just goes bang. I like the beginning, nice double pedal drumming and a nice riff above it. The lyrics that start at about 0:33 are heavy growls, not my favorite but tolerable. I can tell that the band is really talented and I like the musical part of it. The lyrics dont do much for me - really only because I cant tell what the person is saying at all. The keyboard part is cool, the little solo is sweet, followed by a cool shredding solo by the guitarist. A long solo, it's been going on for over a minute now - the guitarist is really talented...the solo reminds me of a Petrucci solo in a way. Would I listen to it again? Maybe: the lyrics don't do it for me, the music is not bad. I'd say a 6/10 for this one. my songs are: Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien (fast pop rock) Iced Earth - Dragon's Child (Power Metal) Symphony X - Out of The Ashes (Prog Metal) Tenacious D - Rock Your Socks (rock...comedy too) Those four should be really easy to find. |

0:00 starts with heavy guitar line sort of like bass, it is the tempo for the song. like duh duh duh duh sort of
0:09.9 or so guitar solo 1 starts, not really a guitar solo, but fast and it is more of an extension to the song reminiscent of Michael Angelo 16th and 32nd notes in No Boundaries 0:30 2nd guitar comes in with 1st guitar to double w/ 1st on solo 0:38 solo ends. 0:41.7 or so vocals come in. they sound 80ish. some parts w/ lots of vibrato and harmonized vocals. reminiscent of Cemetery Gates. 0:56 more vocals but now w/ background vocals w/ a spooky feel sounds like "oooooooooooh!!" 1:03 singer by himself, then w/ lower pitched voice(lower-middle range) doubling with singer then with choir sounding part. 1:12 chorus: different singing style now. sort of like backstreet boys. not gay sounding w/ 5 voices but a more pop style sound to it. i find these more appealing w/ this type of music. 1:28 really short 2nd guitar solo starts in 1:36 solo ends and in comes vocals, vocals are back to 80's type 1:50 back w/ that ooooh stuff 2:05 chorus: back w/ that backstreet stuff 2:19 3rd guitar solo this is the big one. 2:40 sounds like it switched to a 2nd guitar if there is a 2nd or a keyboard . i don't know anything about this band. it's starting to sound like a keyboard. i don't know though 3:00 chorus this last part of the song has a lot more backstreet boy sounding parts to it. has a lot of parts with several vocals going on at one time i thing 4:06 it ends. i'm not sure when it ends because it closed before i could check it rating: guitars: 8.9/10 vocals: 9.6/10 keyboard: 8.9/10 bass: 9/10 overall: 9/10 i would probably listen to more but i can't assure i'd like it or listen to it again. if it is like this song i would listen to it every so often my songs: element eighty ~ texas cries (hard rock from dallas) stone sour ~ bother (corey taylor's band, soft song from rock band) the guns of august ~ my america www.thegunsofaugust.com click on enter click on media to get this song unless they took it off (heavy metal) nothingface ~ ether (softer metal) you can find it on roadrunnerrecords.com under Freddy Vs. Jason OST avenged sevenfold ~ Chapter Four try to get ELEMENT EIGHTY or GUNS OF AUGUST first they are the good ones a lot of people haven't heard of |
