Foxy Shazam!'s music has a maniacal, carnival-like dynamic that keeps you on your toes throughout the entire album. They combine pummeling, heavy riffing and rhythms with more spacious fare, pulling in elements from the entire history of Rock music (from Metal and '50s to Punk and Surf). Trust me, just listen to it - it's AWESOME! Off the top of my head it, this band reminds me a mix between Fall Out Boy, Blood Brothers, and The Cure (Sounds crazy? It is oh so incredibely crazy). You can stream their entire album, The Flamingo Trigger, on their Purevolume, and trust me, it's like nothing you've ever heard. |

These guys are awesome. Although they're not necessarily pure pop-punk, they have a definite unique sound that is amazing. |
Jon: Listen to The Kinison. You might not like it, but it's unique.
I don't see how it's unique. It's not bad, though. |

I am in love with this band now. Baumer. www.purevolume.com/baumer I don't know how many of you actually listen to these guys, but I'm more or less obsessed with their album "Come On, Feel It." They're on Astromagnetics, the record label Geoff Rickly co-owns. I don't know if you'd nessecarily call them pop-punk, but they're definitely something worth checking out. They're very...Dancey. Almost Head Automatica-ish. Without the Daryl Palumbo spastic element. |
ATTN Kif!
I can't find any of that sydney bands stuff anywhere. OD you have the album, anychance you can send it my way? robertchapman88@gmail.com if you get a chance..cheers |

Ooh I like these kind of bands, I haven't heard much of The Editors though. I've had "Na Na Na Na Naa" in my head all week. |
Killers are American.
That doesnt make them un-bad. I cant stand any of those bands either. |

That pretty much applies anywhere the world though. The truly good song writers never get the recognition they deserve, while the people who simply re-hash formulatic music makes millions. It's a giant shame. Oh well. |

A mixture of aggressive pop-punk and disco. Seriously, imagine Head Automatica, with more funk. Very dancable music, and their debut CD is about to hit next year, and I think it will do very well in the pop-punk scene, given their catchiness and musicianship. Check out "Dance In My Blood" if you only want to listen to one of their songs, and then check out the other 2 anyway. |
^vote me, I'm feelin ya^
I had a period of more hardcore end punk, but its great to return to pop-punk once in a while. The music is a lil more fun and generally not so serious, plus its way easier to listen to :)
I agree with this. Pop-punk serves as my form of easy listening music. After a long session of Black Flag and Minor Threat, I agree it's great to revert back to the Offspring and the Explosion. I also agree with the threadstarter that pop-punk is going downhill. My advice: listen to older punk bands and forget most of the new stuff. There are of course exceptions to this, and most of the suggested bands in this thread are as good as '90s pop punk bands IMO. |
pop-punk isn't going downhill, it's just dispersing into alot of subgenres. Not every band is going to sound like mid 90-s green day.
|
Pop-punk is definately going downhill. It's sad that sites like Purevolume and Myspace have spawned literally thousands of bands that sound exactly the same with no real spark that gives them their own identity. The same chord structures, lyrical themes, even vocal stylings.
I've become very bored with the genre for a while now, and tend to listen to older albums more because of it. There are a few hopeful bands that have emerged over the past 2 or so years, but as a whole pop-punk is a dying breed. |
Tragic to know. I find myslef listening to alot of old albums thesedays myself, because nothing excites me anymore.
I've tried to keep some of pop-punk alive in my own band, becuase we reallt do try and stick to our own thing... |
To correct my last post, i dont mean sub genres are forming, i mean that pop-punk is a very broad genre anymore.
But ive turned over to more hardcore anyways. |
I agree with this.

lolz I know what you mean though, they basically made it cool for a band to scream. Honestly, this might sound bad to everyone....but hawthorne heights wouldnt be half as bad as they are f they took out the totally unnecessary screaming. They'd still be bad, but they might just be semi-tolerable if they took that part out. |
Blink 182's album really wasn't that original. In fact, if they had screaming it'd be just like all the generic "screamo" bands out there.
(Note quotations.) |
Quotations noted.
I actually think the last blink album might have been their best. They tried something different, but it still sounded like blink. |
It was definately their most creative. Which isn't saying too much considering they are the stereotype that is pop-punk. But for them, it was definately creative.
|
yeah but they kept the poppunk lyrics and some of the songs have poppunk guitar riffs. but with those uh 3 songs aside the rest of the album, instrumental wise, sounds phuckin fantastic. and thats what im sayin if more bands took a que from that and go from there it'd sound pretty cool.
stop screaming. go back to writing songs about the chick that you want, or grow balls and start singin about the chick your gonna get. not songs about dying or "losing the light" or whatever cheap metaphors there are. and dont get me wrong theres quite a few bands out there that sound good screaming. but keep it original dont do the same thing each song, each album. like i like when people can pull of the scream as a harmony. but if you cant pull off the scream live DONT overproduce them to sound good cause that just messes with peoples expectations and if they're smart they'll know your full of it. i saw the Used when they first came out and i was like WTF? this is the same damn band? it sounded like garbage...and i dont mean the shirley manson garbage, im talkin crap crap crap. it let me down cause i thought the album was tops sorry about the rant but you can kinda see where im going. |
