Lydisk 10-10-2005 06:03 AM

i am norwegian.

the first e is pronounced like a Norwegian "Æ" which is halfway between an a and an e
so its Ærlend.

Øye - the Ø is between an o and an e. Øie

Scott Herren 10-10-2005 06:09 AM

well thanks for clearing that up, but what do those actually sound like. you should post a audio clip. I just know when Eirik was talking to him at the KoC concert he was calling him Er-lend. :)

JonM 10-10-2005 09:12 AM
b-york
I think I read that it actually sounds more like "B-yerk" in the proper accent. But that's how Americans pronounce it, and nobody makes fun of us.

mr_jackalope 10-10-2005 01:44 PM
you are so wrong it hurts

erlend øye - i think his name is somewhat unpronouncable to you guys.
That's why I said it was a guess. One Swedish guy I knew (I know, not exactly Norwegian, but still) said that 'rl' isn't really pronounced like that, but more like a retroflex l. And the guy put o instead of ø, which completely changes everything.

sufjan stevens
seegoor rose
Wrong. See-ur Roce, and make sure to roll the R, like a Spanish rr. Roce is like race, but with an O.

Kaden 10-11-2005 07:00 PM
Wrong. See-ur Roce, and make sure to roll the R, like a Spanish rr. Roce is like race, but with an O.
nope, it's si-ur. The i is like the i in "with".

Killtacular 10-11-2005 07:22 PM
nope, it's si-ur. The i is like the i in "with".
That's pretty much the same.

Kaden 10-11-2005 07:26 PM
That's pretty much the same.
oh is it? I thought you meant see-ur with the i sounding like the e's in "sleep". Sorry if I misunderstood.

If that is what you meant though, they're different ya hooker.

Killtacular 10-11-2005 07:39 PM

The way the website mp3 has it, it's pronounced like an ee, as in seek, or sleep.

Kaden 10-11-2005 07:48 PM
The way the website mp3 has it, it's pronounced like an ee, as in seek, or sleep.
I haven't listened to the mp3, but the website says:
"sigur rós si-ur rose (the i is like the i in "hit". "rose" is said very quickly)"

i as in "hit", that's what it says.

italic zero 10-11-2005 08:02 PM

In that context, the two sound almost identical.
