Daniel! 10-09-2005 03:53 PM
Hm, I'm thinking of starting my own Zorn collection sometime soon.
How extensive is his discography? Like 10 albums or 100 albums?

Happymeal 10-09-2005 04:02 PM

There's probably more than a hundred, considering his countless collabs with all those other weird people.

Daniel! 10-09-2005 04:04 PM

Good luck.

AndreTheHyena 10-10-2005 01:07 AM

This is a shameless plug for a homeboy of mine, but he's put some of his recorded music up on myspace, and if you're into quiet folk singer-songwriter stuff, a la Iron and Wine or Nick Drake, you may wanna check it out...
When they were touring with Dylan, and probably at Woodstock, people began to refer to them as "The Band". I guess something like "have you seen the band that's with Dylan?". And then it just stuck.
Did you get that from the Last Waltz?

magicbus 10-10-2005 10:11 PM
Did you get that from the Last Waltz?
I'm pretty sure I did.

Broken Arrow 10-11-2005 03:04 PM

I remeber them talking about that.

Nice choice

The Sax on that song is amazing.

Broken Arrow 10-11-2005 05:44 PM

I love this whole album.

I prefer in to Mr. Fantasy.

magicbus 10-14-2005 06:50 PM

I enjoy the band Traffic. John Barleycorn is a cool album.

Happymeal 10-16-2005 03:39 PM

Back from the 2nd page graveyard. Someone recommend me some video game/anime s/t songs as I'm stumped on what else to put on my mix cd. And something other than Nobuo songs plz.

magicbus 10-16-2005 10:14 PM

I was going to say Nobuo songs :(

Have you heard the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night soundtrack? It's real good.

Broken Arrow 10-17-2005 02:58 PM

I dont listen to that crazy stuff.

Album Playing:Herbie Hancock-Head Hunters

Have you got a million euro's?

Or dollar's?

Zorn has been on too many album's too actually complete the collection probably only one guy who has it and that is probably Zorn.

Would be amazing to get all his stuff.

Searching RYM reveals he does indeed have many many albums. I don't suppose anyone can explain the recurring use of the word "masada" in the titles?

Masada is one of his bands/groups. Why they're not considered a separate entity is beyond me.

Bartender 10-17-2005 05:18 PM

That is weird. Doesn't seem to apply to any other artists. Even ones with really big discographies (Keiji Haino)

Broken Arrow 10-17-2005 05:24 PM

Could it be like Neil Young and Crazyhorse?

/no

The Great Decay 10-17-2005 07:15 PM

I've already posted this in Alt/Indie but wasn't able to get a response, so I'll post it here. Are there any soulseek users who could help me with a port problem?

Got anything from Chrono Cross on there? How about a few remixes?

Ugh the vgmix.com release list is down for me.

If you have a chance to look on there, look out for
Zealous Entropy
The Twelfth Commandment
Street influence(A weird Castelvania one that uses game samples)
Darkest Omen

I will make direct links later when it comes back.

Including all his various collaborations and side projects? Good luck. I have all of Naked City's albums, only 4 or 5 Zorn solo albums, and a few collabs.

Good stuff indeed.

I'll probably start with the Masadas, as the first one is what made me appreciate his music in the first place.

Dog 10-18-2005 05:10 PM

I've never heard any of his work with Masada. :(

Happymeal 10-21-2005 05:08 PM

I didn't know the FFVII soundtrack was inspired by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. "Toccata" says it all.

CaptainWaits 12-15-2005 02:13 PM

Has there ever been a Johnny Cash thread done in this forum?

EDIT: I went back to pages from July, and didn't see one, so I'm going ahead and starting one.

CaptainWaits 12-15-2005 02:21 PM

Yeh there's need for a thread specifically on him, so I just made one. Thanks for the help on that search though.

Ostrich Man 12-15-2005 06:48 PM

Nice thread idea.

I haven't really noticed the "Other Music" forum before (no offence guys), but I recently posted in the Johnny Cash Thread and might visit/post in OM more often. It's much more fun to talk in a community like this, as opposed to trying to get an answer from the masses of the Pit.

Broken Arrow 12-15-2005 08:49 PM

Wow this thing got bumped.

JonM 12-18-2005 12:25 PM

Has anybody seen Iron & Wine and Calexico on this last tour?

CarnageFairy 12-18-2005 12:45 PM
Are there any soulseek users who could help me with a port problem?
I can probably help you if you're talking about port forwarding.

EDIT: Oh, that was posted like 2 months ago. Loffle.

Broken Arrow 12-18-2005 02:41 PM
Has anybody seen Iron & Wine and Calexico on this last tour?
Naw, i wanted to but it was a 19+ gig. :(

CaptainWaits 12-18-2005 03:27 PM

So, I was thinkin of making another thread on this, but I'll just mention it in here...

...Who likes the Kill Bill soundtracks?? IMO, they're the best soundtracks yet, especially Vol.1.

JonM 12-18-2005 06:18 PM
Has anybody seen Iron & Wine and Calexico on this last tour?
I saw them two nights ago, and objectively it was a really good rock show, but it wasn't at all what I wanted out of an Iron & Wine show (and got out of the last one). The few old IW songs they played they sped up and made louder, and I didn't like that.

Broken Arrow 12-19-2005 06:43 PM

Oh that sucks. What songs did Sam play?

Watchman 12-19-2005 08:15 PM

Well I didn't like the films much, so my enjoyment of the soundtrack was a bit marred. The (one of the?) main musicians on it, Tomayasu Hotei, is quite good though. His own album, or at least the only one I've heard so far,
Electric Samurai, the Noble Savage is a fun listen, and quite a lot of it sounds well-suited to film scores. One of the tracks might even be on the Kill Bill soundtrack, come to think of it.

Terrible cover art, though.

"On Your Wings," "Cinder And Smoke," "Free Until They Cut Me Down," "Jezebel," "Woman King," "Gray Stables," a whole bunch of the great songs, but none of them felt like the songs I love.

Yes. I'm pretty sure he's featured on the soundtrack. "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" is the track.

At least you've already seen him.

There's three different versions of that on the album, actually. I would wonder which is on the soundtrack, but I'm not really interested enough.

CaptainWaits 12-24-2005 02:32 PM

Hey you guys, I just made a new forum, and I'd like some members. So if you're interested, have a look.
