Were they grounded properly?
lowsound
I don't think that 12 of them would all be improperly grounded. Also, of the 12 I owned, 6 of them were brand new. If they came from the factory with improper grounds, then that would show signs of poor quality control. Besides, it's not just me. On other forums that I have frequented, others have said the same thing about the G&L active circuitry. It's something in the treble portion of the circuitry. If you turn the treble all the way down, the hum almost goes away (not entirely, but almost). Of course, with the treble control turned down all the way, the bass tends to sound too muddy and boomy. |

My washburn six string does that, did it do that when you owned it? lowsound |

lowsound
A bit. With that one, it depended on what was around it. With the G&L's I owned, they did it all the time. |
the only G&L bass i'd ever consider is the one set up like a MM but the thing is where i live..thier about the same price...so i'd just go MM...
|
I've wanted one for a while but my local GC doesn't carry them so I can't even try one. How are the Tributes compared to the American ones? Are the necks thick like a soda can or more like a P bass?
|
I still like G&Ls a lot. I love playing them. Their tone is ace.
With all the "Show me Yours!" threads starting up, I thought this deserved to be up here ;)
joe
d00d...I have three G&L 6 strings at the moment (Tributes: ASAT, Legacy Premium, and Invader) but tomorrow I am going to pick up a BARELY USED 2006 American JB-2 with hardshell case for $700 Canadian dollars. I know...crazy. It'll be a great addition to my studio as my only bass right now is the uber under-rated Ibanez SRX 300. Anyway...with your avatar...I was wondering if you play any of that killer bass stuff on Costello's 'This Year's Model'...man the playing on that is incredible. Run and slide, run and slide. The six strings: |
if g&ls had 6 strings and 24 frets they would apeal to me much more, they do sound mint though.

Here is my new beautiful JB-2...

I want Joe...
I mean... I want Joe's G&L... |
Nice bass, Smorg.... I dig it.
This thread rules. joe |
Nice bass, Smorg.... I dig it.
shanx...shanx a lot... The uber cool part is that it only cost $700 Canadian including the case. I feel bad when musicians have to let go of their instruments at high losses but if they are selling them and I am interested then a price is agreed upon... ...instrument goes with me. The d00d didn't seem upset at all though...and the bass feels so smooth!!! When he said there might be 2-3 hours total playing time on it he did not exaggerate. NEW condish. |
**looks at thread title**
My mom own a G&L! Beat that, beyotches! I've actually never played a G&L before due to lack of interest. They just seemed like overly dramatic Fenders. |
G&L play so much better than any standard fender I've ever played. I wish I could afford one.
|
i played an L-2000 and almost creamed my pants, then i played an L-2500 with the baseball bat neck and wanted to cut off my hands. but aside from the neck on the five string i was really impressed.

I'll bite...
G&L is wonderful! I have becomed the happy owner of a G&L l2000, and this bas is f'in POWERFUL! Combined with my Sansamp Bass Driver pedal, it makees sure its impossible to play at low volumes.. And it surely got tone to hold up, and Punch, i can go from MM to Geddy sound(Jazz Bass) to Steve Harris(P bass) sound just with the flick of the switch... And the neck, oh the best Satin finish ever! so smooth and wonderful to hold on, and you dont have to have baseball necks, mine have a neck thats pretty similiar to a 70's Jazz bass... My band keeps braging about it to, the guitarist loves its sound. its wonderful, Natural Finish, Maple neck and Fretboard: If all G&L's hold this quality, i might very well get more of them in the future... this one have a deadspot, wich i found becose i looked after it, but the note is as strong as the others, its only that it fades a little quicker than the other notes(that is if your holding a note on D#(8 fret) on the G string for more than 5 seconds...) |
