I've never played a Warwick and been anything other than overwhelmed.
So I take it you like them? |
I'd like to get another brand of pickups for two reasons:
Hum cancelling. Better tone.
1st one I can definately see. But care to explain whats wrong with MEC's tone? Too much bass? Not enough? Lacking in lower midrange? Im with Chris K, Im sick of the unjustified MEC bashing. |

Im with Chris K, Im sick of the unjustified MEC bashing.
tone is completly subjective - if you dont like how they sound, there may not be one specific reason that you dont like - you just dont like them, and so i do not feel there has to be a reason why i dont like their tone, i just dont, and i want to put in some barts, ones which i do like the tone of |
so should i get this bass?
|
If you like Warwicks. It's kind of a love/hate thing, I guess.

I'm considering getting a Corvette with custom paint, F clef fret inlays, gold hardware and possibly different pickups. Has anyone on here ordered a custom Warwick? How long does it usually take to get it once you order it?
Also, does the Corvette Proline sound any different to the Corvette? I'm not sure if the difference in bubinga and flame maple would be that big. If they're hardly different, I'll just order a Proline with the inlays and possibly pickups. |

It's still a great bass, just different. |

How's it different? |
How's it different?
It's lighter, and it sounds like maple instead of bubinga. Just letting you know, you still have to wax the colored finishes, too. I wanted a proline and ended up with a standard, and am extremely happy with it. Just tell them to give you a high-quality bubinga body (quilted even) and hard finish it if you want to avoid the waxing thing. |

I'm sorry, I'm not quite up there when it comes to the tones of different body woods. I'm guessing the bubinga would have deeper lows than the maple yes? Would you mind explaining the different sounds to me if you don't mind? I don't mind if I have to wax it, but if there's a way I don't have to do it, then I'd definitely go for it. Would it cost more to get the high-quality bubinga and hard finish? I don't know if I can be bothered saving up more money to get a different wood, otherwise I would go for a Corvette with a quilted maple body. And ordering a Proline with bubinga would just end up being a standard with a coloured finish and gold hardware wouldn't it? Sorry for all the questions. I'm hoping to order this bass soon and appreciate all the knowledge and wisdom I can get from some of the more experienced bassists here. |
Maple is very clear with good highs, and bubinga has a lot of mids with some pretty good lows.
Changing the proline from flamed maple to quilted maple and getting what you really want probably wouldn't be that expensive. |
you mean your with me. chris k didnt say that.
close enough. |
I got a quote on a custom 'Vette.
Corvette Standard 2 piece AAA Flamed Maple body (Quilted maple cost too much) F Clef fret inlays Owner's name plate in 24th fret Seymour Duncan Basslines High polish stain Gold hardware All this will cost me $4700. But now here comes the tricky bit! I found out there's a distributor in Sydney who deals with Alembics. I've never played one, but I've heard awesome things about them. The cheapest model starts at $5200, however they have some 'pre-loved' and demo models in for cheaper. Question. Is it worth the extra money for an Alembic? I wouldn't be able to afford one with the options I want, so it will probably be just the bottom-of-the-line, stock-standard Alembic. Either an Epic or Excel. Alembic Epic/Excel vs Warwick custom Covette HELP ME! |
I've never played an Alembic, so I can't help you. You'd be better off posting that in the main forum.
|

Their new album isn't bad, but everything else sucks.
|
yeah thats kinda how i see it, but im really really not into the whole screaming thing, it think it just sounds rubbish, but some of the stuff on the new album sounds sort of "epic", which is kinda cool, but its not really something i like that much
|
You do not need to "wax" the finish on Warwick basses, I don't know where this delusion came about.
The finished Proline basses have a Satin sealent. |
true, you dont, but it is suggested that you do in the manual that comes with it
thats probably where the delusion comes from |
That's purely aesthetic, just as is cleaning a sealed bass.
|
true its purely asthetic, but you dont want the wood to discolour do you?
|
I love my Fretless 'Vette Standard, a review will come in time. :thumb:
