Strung Out - lucifermotorarcade
This song starts with various effects being used, then the distorted guitar and drums kicking in. The drums follow a simple beat, and mainly chords are used on this track. A secong guitar picks out the melody. Shouty vocals accompany this high energy riff. This gets pretty catchy, but the vocals really spoil this song for me. As Vince said, This song was pretty decent until the vocals started, but this really isn't my type of music, so I don't think I can be a fair judge of this song. Gilby Clarke - Cure Me... Or Kill Me...
I like the intro a lot actually, considering it sounds similar to a Metallica song, who I despise. The guitar riffs sound like a typical hard rock song, which is good I guess. The vocals come in, and it sounds like they are trying too hard to be your average metal band. The lyrics, the riffs, the way the song is sung. It sounds quite generic to be honest. The chorus is a lot better, it has a little pop-punk edge to it considering what the song is like. The mini solo throughout the chorus is a nice touch as well. The verse and chorus use the same structure and chords again, and once again I've fallen in love with the chorus thanks to the lead guitarist. The bridge is quite nice as well. The main solo is enjoyable to listen to, but I must admit I was expecting a bit more from the lead guitarist. It sounds a little slow, and it doesn't really bring anything new to the song. It just seems like a way to put off playing the chorus again. When the chorus comes around again, it lasts way too long. At least 4 times the chorus goes round I think, which could've easily been shortened. Overall, I didn't mind the song. It's one of those songs which focus on the guitarist rather than anything else. The vocals seemed forced into being brody in the verses, and the drumming wasn't the most impressive I've ever heard. Hell, I could probably drum like this guy in this song. The guitar was pretty good, I thought the lead guitarist spent a little too long soloing his heart out, and that little gimmick got old after a while. 6/10 The Glitterati - Heartbreaker (Glam Rock/Hard Rock) Fall Out Boy - I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me (Pop Punk) The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower - For Marcus (Spaz Punk) |

The plot to blow up the Eiffel Tower - For Marcus
Starts off a bit wierd, all the instruments playing and then goes into a cool bass line and then the vocals come in, they are ok, not very strong and shouted, it sounds ok. Then it slows down a bit, which is a nice change and then it breaks down with a strong bass line and the girl singing is good. Good guitar work through the song. Then a sax solo comes in which i don't really like, but it's wuite a nice change. Then just as the song seem s to fade out to the end of the song, all the instruments and vocals start off as crazy and fast as possible. I didn't really liuke it that much, i wouyldn't buy it, but it's not terrible. 5/10 Lars and the bastards - Six foot five - http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx? id=36VWUOGEQ3ZVG3K7BVP4MVZUBC TBS - Bike Scene - http://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2M3H0OQ8OEZJH2HS940CI2ZUST Rise Against - Give It All - http://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=11O4QJ2C0HY0A2RFIK4CPSIXH1 |

Lars and the Bastards - Six Foot Five
Starts out with clicks, then gets right into it. It's got a catchy rhythm. The lyrics are somewhat ballad-like, talking about punx and skinheads doing stuff. I can't understand the lyrics too well. :p About 0:43, the chorus comes in. VERY catchy. "Skinhead! Roots making rock and roll, on parole!" Something like that. Right after the chorus comes the solo. After the solo, a breakdown-type thing. Chorus again. /dances. Overall it's a pretty good song. Typical stuff from Lars, and it was kind of hard to review becuase it was pretty simple. I give it a 7/10. Pogues - Sick Bed Of Cúchulainn Starts out with a quiet intro on what sounds to be a mandolin. It's a slow song. About 35 seconds in, you kind of expect guitars to come exploding in, but they don't. It sticks with just the accordion and mandolin and stuff playing. Sounds interesting. At 1:24 a little duet with the accordion and some whistling comes in, which I like a lot. Then it gets quiet again. Then kicks up again with the chorus, and ends with the whistling/accordion duet. It's a good song, but not exactly what I prefer to listen to. 6/10 Wow. I really suck at writing these things. Stevie Wonder - Supersticious
The song starts with a funky drumming pattern and after some seconds it enters the bass playing a funky line that sticks over every other instrument the whole song except the chorus. That's probably one of the catchiest bass lines ever. Later it enters the guitar and then stevie sings the verse, after a few verses we have some horns playing also and then it comes the chorus when you can hear the guitars and vocals most of all. Again the funky and cool bass line and the verse again with horns on the last half of it and the chorus straight after it. The horns are pretty good and then some kind of bridge where you can here a slight variation of the main riff. To the end of the song it's the instruments playing the verses but Stevie sings like if it was a chorus, not exactly but his singing is more melodic than in verses and he goes higher too. This is not the kind of music I use to listen too but this song is so great that I can't help but liking it. 8.5/10 because after some listenings it gets a bit tiring. Bigwig - Still.
This is the first song i've heard by these, but i'm impressed. It starts off with just the guitar playing a cool riff and then stops for a second and then carries on again but this time with the drums and bass, the vocals come in shortly after, they are ok, quite shouty and chanty but very listenable. The verse is very simple, the guitar is playing simple power chords, the drums are simple and the singing is great. The chorus is more poopy and catchy and the vocalist sings a bit higher, the beggining riff starts agian which goes into the verse which seems more static and shouty, after the chorus again, a great breakdown occurs, where the bass becomes mre apparent and everything seem to slow down, the riff starts agin, while the vocalist is singing, and then goes into the chorus again for the last time. 9/10 Bad Religion : Suffer - http://s7.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=34NC84CL202CL3ALYLL3GU3DFG OutKast ,Ft. American Hi-Fi - Maybe Won't Do (3:26)
Starts out with a catchy drum beat, and then comes in with some distorted bass and guitar on the off beats. The singer's voice sounds kind of staticky, and for that matter, the whole song does. The chorus is very poppy, and for some reason it kind of gets on my nerves. It immediately makes me think of a generic pop band. The bridge comes in at 2:30. There are background singers singing behind the lead singer, and the snare drum seems to be louder than all of the other music. Ther's not much to the song. It's basically verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. Very generic. 4/10. Not my type of music. Lovedrug - Rock 'N' Roll
I was half-expecting some cheap NME-esque clone, but it started out quite nicely. Very strong vocals, a nice guitar riff that isn't too heavy, but not too soft either. The whole song, especially the chorus, reminded me of American Hi-Fi for some reason. I liked the little lick inbetween the chorus/verse. The verse was almost a copy of the first one, which is fine. At around 2:00, the bridge kicks in and it get's a hell of a lot quieter. I like the sudden shift in volume, it gives a bit more suspense and a bit more of a build-up to what's coming up. Although the singer's blurry vocals annoyed me at this point. It then goes straight to a clean palm-muted guitar and vocals, nothing else. A bit of a let-down, I was expecting something a little louder but that's OK As a whole, the song didn't really have anything which wanted to reel me in and listen to more. It was a nice song, quite mellow. The vocalist's tone didn't really go with the whole feel of the song, but that wasn't much of a problem. I don't think I'd look into this band personally, but the song didn't put me off completely. 6/10 Vendetta Red - Silhouette Serenade (Rock/Pop Punk) http://s36.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=057O18ERS5KEH2CI3KBBP8GPJF 30 Seconds To Mars - I'll Attack (Indie/Pop Punk) http://s36.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3FHQLP6D193P71YP95GUJTDGYR The Aquabats - Fashion Zombie (Synth Ska/Pop Punk) http://s36.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0VA1EDDQ8ZQBB1L0Z7H3V27C6H I know, a Pop Punk theme this time.
I am going to check out the new Aquabats song though. Do they have a new album out?
Yeah, it comes out in June I think. The advance got leaked, and I can safely say that this album is a hell of a lot better than the disappointing "Yo, Check Out This Ride!" EP |
The Aquabats - Fashion Zombie
Starts off slowly with a very cool bass line and high screeching sound, and then everything kicks in and a cool, poppy guitar riff starts, then the background 'WHOA' come in, which is great, then the verse starts which is a very cool clean-ish ska style guitar plays over nice drums and bass, nice fills are always present. The run down is the same riff as at the beggining before the first verse and goes into the chorus, which has the whoas and everything is kicking in also with that riff. This pattern repeats itself again and then it slows down for a very cool, mysterious part, nice guitar work and vocals here, and goes into the ruindown and then the chorus again and then to the end. Great song, may get into them. 8/10 OutKast ,Ft.
