Yeah, I read that too. I wish I had my copy of that album here so I could check; for some reason I never did. At least I can still listen to it, I suppose; it's a reasonably good album.

Bartender 04-21-2005 03:22 PM

Here's the Backyard Babies original (I think) Star War, and here's Star War Jr., Super$hit 666's cover of it. Not sure why, particular reason (neither is the best track on their respective albums). I just like this thread.

I really liked both of those songs, thanks :thumb:.

Girlfriend Clothes is a great song. I underrated it for a very long time, then suddenly realised how good it was sometime in the last year. It's a very fun song.

Bartender 11-30-2005 07:20 AM

Bumping this because I just (finally) got my hands on a CD-R of some early Wildhearts stuff. Nine tracks of demos from before Ginger was on vocals ("The Snake Demos") which I've known about for ages but never gotten around to getting myself a copy of, for no good reason. And seven tracks of Ginger with an acoustic guitar, backed by a cheapo drum machine ("The Lost Tapes"), which was news even to me upon buying it a couple of days ago.

Bartender 11-30-2005 07:29 AM

Heh. I'll start uploading.

I'm only four tracks in for now, and it's awesome so far. Only one of the tracks is one that later goes on to be recorded properly, I think (Love U Til I Don't), and even the version of that here is rather different from the later one. The rest are all, essentially, new :-D

EDIT: And I think you'll like them, Plath. More glam than anything else they've done, I think. The vocalist helps, he sounds a lot more like an American glam vocalist than Ginger.

Bartender 11-30-2005 07:46 AM

I don't think I know anything about him other than the name, unfortunately.

I'm also glad he took over, despite his big lack of confidence in his voice.

EDIT: omg omg omg there's a bit of a later song stuck in the middle of this one. And I totally can't remember what the later song is.

Bartender 11-30-2005 07:51 AM

Nah, I don't think so. It's that bit that "da-dun, dadiddle-iddle-iddle dun", or something. You'll know it when you hear it, anyway, and hopefully you'll be able to fill me in.

EDIT (too many edits on this page): Snake is apparently formerly of Tobruk? I've never heard of them, though. RYM lists two Tobruks, one from the 70s and one from the 80s.

Well my audience has gone offline, but here you go;

The Snake Demos (35 MB)

Tracklist:
Kiss My Arse Before You Say Goodbye
Love U Til I Don't
Please Baby Please
Please Baby Please (second version)
The Violent Ones
Unsociable Emotions
Vive L'Amour
Who's Gonne Stop Lorraine
Wild Wine and Whiskey

The recording quality's not always the greatest, for obvious reasons, and the other one's on the way, too.

EDIT:

The Lost Tapes (27 MB)

Tracklist:
Kiss My Arse Before You Say Goodbye
Who's Gonna Stop Lorraine
Please Baby Please
The Violent Ones
One More Night
Love U Til I Don't
Wild Wine and Whiskey

Ditto on recording quality (though if you for some reason only download one, make it the Snake demos).

Bartender 11-30-2005 10:32 AM

Hope you like them. I've only had them a few hours myself. The Snake Demos are (mostly) great, but the Lost Tapes are really for fans only, if you know what I mean. Being a fan, you're alright of course, but what I mean is when I say he's backed by a cheapo drum machine, I mean a really cheap drum machine. The kind of thing you had when you were six, built into a keyboard or something :)

Six Foot Revolver 11-30-2005 11:39 AM

Cheers for the album and bumping my thread =D.

Bartender 12-01-2005 05:42 AM

You're welcome.
So I've listened to most of the Snake Demos now; it's good stuff. I'm not a huge fan of the singer, his voice is quite weak but the music is top drawer. One of the songs reminds me of the Georgia Satellites, that type of country-glam.

Thanks :)
I don't love his voice, but I don't mind it either. But then I suppose you're more experienced in glam vocalists than I. And yeah, I'm quite surprised that at least a couple of these didn't make it into 'real' songs later on.

If/when you get around to the listening to the Ginger/drum machine stuff, there's one song (The Violent Ones, I think) which doesn't seem to have either Ginger or Snake on vocals. I think they were recorded before Snake was part of the band, so that makes sense, but it sounds conceivably like Danny. And Danny didn't join the band until after Snake had come and gone, I think. So I've no idea who it is.

Bartender 12-01-2005 12:29 PM

Well bits of them surely made their way into future songs, but a lot of what's here sounds mostly new.

The Violent Ones is the one I was talking about yesterday actually, when I said I recognised the "da-dun, dadiddle-iddle-iddle dun" (around 3:40), though I've still be unsuccessful in figuring out where it's from :(

I know it's from one of their 'main' songs, too (as opposed to an obscure b-side, I mean), so it's annoying me.

munky_magik 05-19-2006 11:07 AM

When I was waiting for my train home today some guy stopped to talk to me about my Wildhearts shirt. Turns out he was a massive fan

Also, Mr. Bartender Man...where did the song Christeen come from?
