Try that in the "ask questions" thread, but I reckon your request will get turned down as there aren't enough RATM threads popping up constantly to justify having an official thread dedicated to them. Try it anyway though :)

Thor 12-22-2004 09:57 AM

Just saying this out loud.....but if RATM got back together, do you know how much money they would make? It would be rediculous.

munky_magik 12-22-2004 10:17 AM

As much as I love Rage, I think it would be peanuts compared to the money that some bands would make by re-forming

Whale and Wasp 12-22-2004 10:39 AM

my favorite song is freedom, especially the end

FREEDOM! YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

id552 12-22-2004 10:41 AM

All the albums are really cool, except renegades; one of the most unique and creative bands doing covers?

munky_magik 12-22-2004 10:45 AM

they were just paying tribute to their influences. Level of creativity has nothing to do with playing covers

EDIT: and they weren't really the most creative band ever. I guess they created their own style but stuck very much within that style and never developed or played with their sound that much.
By far the most creative element was tom Morello, but after he created his own sound and style he just stuck to it totally and never deviated from it.

slave to the waffle light 12-22-2004 11:23 AM
**** him for leaving rage is one of the greatest bands ever i would do anything to get them back together!
i agree. i wish they would come back.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-22-2004 12:04 PM

I'd say that their debut album would be my favorite album of theirs. Every song on there has something different about it that I like. My favorite song off of the S/T is probably "Take the Power Back." That solo is just so friggen cool, because it shows that Morello can put together a good shred solo, not just using his wah pedal.

What do you guys think of "Township Rebellion?" I think that song is awesome, because not only do I like the insturmental parts, but it's one of the few RATM songs where I actually appreciate Zack's rapping. Plus, the bass sounds like a digereedoo. (sp?)

Bartender 12-22-2004 12:23 PM

I like Township Rebellion. I think the only song I would change/remove from the self-titled would be Settle For Nothing. Not sure why, it just sounds kinda lacklustre compared to the others, and never really appealed to me as much.

Arucard 12-22-2004 12:30 PM

My fave is Evil Empire, even though ST is the most well rounded Rage album, EE has some amazingly standout tracks.

Bartender 12-22-2004 12:33 PM
I really like that song...it's definitely one of the angriest things they ever recorded I think, although the solo is outrageously out of place, especially compared with the mood of the rest of the song. I think it's a near perfect album though, although if I had to pick a weakest song on there, it probably would be Township Rebellion.
Fair enough. Settle For Nothing isn't bad by any means, it just always paled in comparison for me.

I couldn't agree more. Every song on there is great, but Settle for Nothing is just okay. I'm listening to it right now, and it's just incredibly slow, but the lyrics are actually quite good.

"If ignorance is bliss, then knock the smile of my face"

shortass 12-22-2004 02:15 PM
Well someone should make an official RATM thread (hint, hint)
If this thread was constantly popular and reached a certain amounts of posts I reckon it could be turned into an official thread :thumb:

Settle For Nothing is a good song, but I must say that it does seem out of place when compared to the other songs in the album.

Official threads don't come around as a result of a long-running or popular thread on a band, but when there are far too many threads on the band in general. For example, the first Official thread (Metallica) came about mid-2003 because of the flood of St Anger stuff.

I can't believe someone actually mentioned that song, i love that song and nobody mentions it.....

I like their S-T the best then BOLA.

My favorite song is Sleep now in the fire and then Wake up.

I like Audioslave, but i think a reunion is in order for Rage.

Man i love Rage.

A renunion is in order? We would all like that, but I doubt that it is going to happen....

It took me so long to get into Township Rebellion. I always thought it was too slow and just all around boring. Plus the solo in that sounds too much like Settle for Nothing to me.

Township Rebellion rocks. I fell in love with that song as soon as I heard the chorus. Its just slow and badass.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-22-2004 09:07 PM

Zack's rapping isn't what I listen to RATM for. His work somehow sounds forced, but on Township Rebellion, the words just "flow" out of his mouth.

Allright, I need some help here. I just watched "Dodgeball" and near the end of the movie, they play a clip of a song that I'm fairly certain is RATM. If anyone knows, or can find out for me, it would be much appreciated.

Really? Now I'm gonna go and rent that movie to see if RATM was in it. That movie rocks anyways, so why not?!

It's the last dodgeball game. I am really positive it's RATM. The drumming sounds like Wilk, the guitar sounds like Morello. It's very easy to tell Morello's playing from anyone elses due to the extreme use of effects.

What do you guys think of Morello's playing from album to album. On the S/T, he did a great job mixing his use of effects and his playing ability, but on Evil Empire, I think he relied on his effects a little too much. On Battle, he went in between the two previous albums as far as effects and playing.

His signature toggle maneuver is what stands out for me about his playing.

Saliva ripped it off in the title track to their album "Survival of the Sickest." It sounds like crap. :D At least I think that's what's going on during the intro...

I always shake my head when i hear the Township Rebellion solo, it is so cool!It is kind of Middle-Eastern sounding. I love that stuff :thumb:

CaptainWaits 12-22-2004 11:59 PM

^^yeh, but not as cool as bulls on parade

RageAgainsttheBush 12-23-2004 12:08 AM

there is a cow bell in that township rebellion song right
i love cow bells there the sweetest
it took me a while to get into the song
but its sweet
love that cow bell

lol ++Rep for you.

THe Cow bell is awesome, it fits that song perfectly and it gives it that feeling of a rural area. Gotta love the cow bell.

I don't think they use it in any other song, but i could be wrong.

to_Burn_The_Eye 12-23-2004 05:58 AM

i think ratm best album is probably s/t but what is your favourite song of theirs?

Oh right
Thanks for clearing that up :thumb:

munky_magik 12-23-2004 08:09 AM

I love his lyrics. You get a real sense of the passion and emotion that he puts into his work from them, but I think too many people are too quick to discard them because they're too political, or because he raps

NuGgEt123 12-23-2004 09:02 AM

best lyricist of the '90s...although chris cornell is up there.

I think they do use it on more than one song...Yeah, Im listening to the S/T right now and Wilk uses one for the intro of Killing in the Name. It's only a little two second fill, but it's still there.

EDIT: BTW, the RATM song on "Dodgeball" has a cowbell in it. Still don't know what song it is. :upset:

Thor 12-23-2004 10:55 AM
^^yeh, but not as cool as bulls on parade
The bulls on parade solo is cool, yes, but it is rather simple. It is just Morello scraping the strings up and down so it sounds like a turntable. The coolest solo that Morello ever did was the Know Your Enemy solo, that thing rocks!

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 11:01 AM

"Face off" performed and written by Tom Morello. I knew it :D

Thor 12-23-2004 11:15 AM

Well its not RATM, but close enough.....

Lateralias 12-23-2004 11:27 AM

What are some lesser known or underrated RATM tracks that are good?, I need to find more RATM songs than just the popular ones...
What are some lesser known or underrated RATM tracks that are good?, I need to find more RATM songs than just the popular ones...
Try Township Rebellion, Take the Power Back, Vietnow!, Revolver, Sleep now in the Fire, and Ashes in the Fall. If by lesser known you mean not singles, then there you go.

What do you guys think of Brad Wilk as a drummer? I think him and Morello are a great duo. The drumming compliments Morello's work greatly. One track that I really like as far as Wilk's work is Vietnow! I think it's a really underrated track.

Thanks kombucha, I kinda already knew of all those songs except Ashes in the Fall but I'll check it out...

Brad Wilk isn't anything special as a drummer, but he definitely isn't another easily forgotten drummer. I can agree with you on the connection and pairing of Wilk's drumming to Morello's guitar, he creates some good grooves for some RATM songs.

Thor 12-23-2004 11:55 AM

Sleep Now In The Fire was a well known track, there was a video for it. A really good unknown track would be No Shelter. Another one would also be Wind Below.

No Shelter is a great more obscure RATM song... I recommend any Rage fans who haven't heard it to check it out. :thumb:
