even most oi bands think there just in a punk band
well, i dont know about that.... |
Awsome job I love Oi! music.
Some of my fav. bands are: The Business 4-Skins Blitz Cockney Rejects Angelic Upstarts |
so basically Oi is music about fun, life, and the working class? is there anything else to it?
|
Yeah, curb-stomping minorities (but that can be included as fun)
|
I love Oi! I don't know a lot of bands, but I love the ones I do.
|
Yeah, curb-stomping minorities (but that can be included as fun)
Hell's yes it's fun! |
Oi is great but I think we all already know that. Oi bands are punk bands. Punk started before Oi. Who really cares!. Go have a beer and play some football.
|
It's kind of hard to say which came first because bands such as The Stooges (who were around in the late 60s) could be considered punk even though many call them "pre-punk" or "proto-punk"
|
Oi is cockney slang for hey.
NYHC, where hardcore got its oi influence due to alot of skinheads getting into hardcore, included such bands as Agnostic Front, Warzone, Murphy's Law, Cro-Mags, Sheer Terror, etc. It, btw, started around the time of 81-82-ish Oi started in the early 70's not the late 70s and early 80s. Keep in mind the working class influence came from the fact that most Oi of the time was done by skinheads and its sub-groups (i.e. suedeheads, mods, etc. note: Sham 69's singer was a suedehead as was the 4Skins' bassist). The National Front did not exploit and corrupt the impressionable youth through the music, it was mostly simply through skinheads trying to make them boneheads. their form of oi dint come around til later. if anything else comes to mind ill post it...
Whats a suede head? |
Whats a suede head?
Did you not bother to read the whole entire page beofre you? But reading that question amde me spit out more chunks of my pear laughing. And fastfingers, you're from Toronto presumably, get to Lansing for that Nazi rally in April. |
I listened to Condemned 84, and despite people thinking they might be racist, it was awesome.
|

thanks man |
It should be noted that the first American Oi band was Iron Cross. They play Crucified [For Your Sins]. Agnostic Front later covered it, and other bands changed it to Christmas Time [For The Skins]

The title should be "Eh-ju-cayshun fore the nun-wer-king clah-ss"
|
I'm not going to jump to conclusions here or anything, but you look like a white power twirp. If you are, you wouldn't last too long here in Toronto...
...Actually, I take that back. Your testicles are still up in your ribcage. When we see young nazis, we usually give them a couple years to shape up their act before we do anything about it.
theres this gang of nazi skins growing down here in southern T.O. They work around in the alderwood region allittle farther but dont spread over to my area closer to downtown because all the gangsters shoot their cowardly racist hides and rightly so. |
Does Toronto have the huge Chinese population? I was in Canada in a Chinatown and I saw "No Chinks Wanted" tagged on a wall.

Yeah, Toronto has a large amount of Asians. I've been there a million times, my family takes trips up there just to eat the good Chinese food they have. But we always go with a group, so if anyone tries **** they'd get beat down. |
What do you guys think of the 4 Skins?
Going by the one album I've got, The Good, The Bad and The 4 Skins they have some decent songs (ACAB and Chaos could be great), its just really really let down by the vocals. Not even in the way Jeff Turner can't sing, but like properly verging on unlistenable. Shame. Someone must have covered Chaos, right? *searches* |
I know I'll get moaned at for digging up a 4 year old thread but... F*** It!
Oi! was definitely not started before Punk. Trad. Skinheads started out alot earlier but actual "Oi!" didn't. Sparrer started as glam band, glam bands are also popular among the older skinhead generations (just check out the gigs The Sweet and Glitter Band get).
Very few fascists bands make it bigger then their own scenese, Only Skrewdriver because it used to be a non fascist band. And I like them, they have great music, their first album was pure oi, and any nazi albums still have the good music, just stupid lyrics, but are actually pretty funny.
All Skrewed Up is one of my favorite albums although ISD was well known for being an NF recruiter when they started up, even when they were playing gigs with Sex Pistols and the Clash! Right Wing Oi! is probably just as big worldwide as non-right wing bands but in a whole other world that knows to keep itself to itself!
I listened to Condemned 84, and despite people thinking they might be racist, it was awesome.
Condemned are not a racist/facist/right wing band. They're patriotic, that's all. No hatred yet everyone seems quick to string them up! Nice guys, too. lastly...
On File - The Birds Don't Like the Skinheads, Used to be a Bootboy
Cheers for the mention, our new album's out now too! :-D www.myspace.com/onfileskinheads |
Oi sux.
|
I partially agree. Some does but there's some f-N brilliant Oi! bands out there.
|
More Skrewdriver appresh. I fukin love Hail The New Dawn, even though Ian Stuart is a dead cockstragler
|
The early stuff was really good, just honest rock n roll. I was never keen on acoustic type stuff he did and I don't agree with the politics.
|
oh no question, the guy was ****in retarded. havent listened to the acoustic stuff
