Slayer ****ing rule. The intro to Hell Awaits is like my favorite song intro. That song just kicks so much ***.

viper03 12-21-2004 01:46 AM

wow, that's a tough one. don't hate me for not going old school, but the intro riff until the first verse of disciple is soooooooooooo heavy. that's my "guitar store" riff that turns heads. then again, i like the drop tunings, too.

Thanks man :chug: I'm sure there are some users more 'die hard' than me,
I just do my best and try to set a good example that kids might follow, I think everyone should experience Slayer once in their lives, so kids go forth, buy as much Slayer as possible and convert the non-believers in your homes and schools :naughty: \m/

sabbathfan37 12-21-2004 09:30 AM

im surprised nobody (that ive seen on this thread) has said "darkness of christ" or more of "god send death". those are great.

When I saw them live, he did a perfect pitch for it, it sounded great.

alcoholocaust 12-21-2004 01:16 PM
slayer is alright i don't like them as much as i used to i would say their best work is spill the blood or south of heaven. i don't judge vocalist on live performances because singing live is hard to do, soundmen suck, and they can't use the added depth of multiple takes (mults).
Um...am I the only one who doesn't really care for Slayer? I love thrash, but I was just never able to get into this band...

Kerry King doesn't even write any of the good riffs.

One of a Kind 12-21-2004 05:43 PM

My favorite Slayer album would have to be Show No Mercy...seems everyone around here likes RiB, SoH, and Seasons. I like all of them but Show No Mercy is my fave. Die By The Sword and Black Magic are 2 of my favorite Slayer songs.

thesheriff 12-21-2004 06:22 PM

I haven't heard too much of them, but from what I've heard, I'd say Raining Blood and Dead Skin Mask are my favorites (I also love the song "Nothing to Gein" by Mudvayne, I guess I have a thing for songs about Edward Gein: )

viper03 12-22-2004 02:04 AM
When I saw them live, he did a perfect pitch for it, it sounded great.
Actually now that you mention it, the second time I saw them live it was about perfect.

I just like songs that focus on the sick things in this world and mass murderers are always a good subject for that. It's not documented but I'm pretty sure the song 'Piece by Piece' is also about Ed Gein, e.g. 'Decapitated bodies found, on my wall your HEAD!!!!!' \m/

MattyBlade 01-06-2005 07:38 AM

My favorite part about slayer is the whole thing, i've only seen them live once :( but hopefully i'll get to see them many more times. My favorite song is probably angel of death, and my favorite line is when he starts the second verse (or third can't remember right now because im not listening to it)

"Pumped with fluid, inside your brain. Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes"

skateMASTERbater2 01-06-2005 07:44 AM

i love them, i also saw them live

razorblade_kiss 01-06-2005 08:34 AM

everyone stop bagging kerry king, hes a better ****ing metal guitarist than any1 in this forum!!! i love slayer, but after watching war at the warfield and seeing any live **** in the past few years, age and injuries from swinging their heads too much is really getting to them. arays vocals are ****ed...i compare angel of death and black magic where he does awesome screams to the newer slayer stuff and its not as good...still great and amazing, but ever so quickly deteriorating. also im glad dave lombardo is playing with slayer again. i liked paul bostpah, but a band like slayer isnt complete without their original drummer - he was voted 10th best ever on some official list, then sadly knocked back down to 12th, but hes still a god - theyre all gods!!!

dead skin mask and seasons in the abyss and stain of mind are the best songs.

i also like the heavyness of payback.

catchingdeath08 01-06-2005 09:48 AM

i havent heard a whole lot of slayer whats a good song?

catchingdeath08 01-06-2005 09:51 AM

there was a lady named kerri king on the news that stole a bunch of money

SLATANIC-666 01-06-2005 12:19 PM

^^   I have a fairly funny story about his name too. I was watching War At The Warfield a while back and my brother walks in, sees Kerry and says 'Woah who's that guys with the tatoos, he looks hard as nails' I tell him his name and my brother's like 'Kerry, seriously? :amaze:  WTF!'. I was laughing for a good 5-10 minutes at my bro's amazement and shock.

Anyway, some good songs are:

Angel of Death
Die By The Sword
Black Magic
The Antichrist
Chemical Warfare
Raining Blood
Necrophobic
Hell Awaits
Kill Again
Necrophiliac
War Ensemble
South of Heaven
Dead Skin Mask
Postmortem
Payback
Scrum
Killing Fields
Bitter Peace
Circle of Beliefs...

Oh fuck it, I'm getting bored, anyway there's at least one song of each album so try listen to these and make your mind up which album(s) you like best :thumb:

big 01-06-2005 12:57 PM

I've been thinking a lot and there next tour really could be there last because of toms failing voice its such a shame he loses it at least once a week now :upset:

(LOKI) 01-06-2005 01:00 PM

If that is so I definately have to go see them again!

Stevie 01-06-2005 01:06 PM

What does everyone think of the Undisputed Attitude album? I find it is an OK album, but I never am inspired to listen to it with Hell Awaits only a few CDs up the line.

i do find UA to be one of there weaker albums and would much rather listen to earlier stuff like haunting the chapel or hell awaits.

For some reason I overlook it a lot, as I left it out of my recommendation above. It has some pretty good covers on it, Abolish Government, Disintegration and Verbal Abuse are my favourites from it. Mr Freeze is good too 'You will die on your knees, by the hands of Mr Freeze...' classic. Is it me or does that part strike resemblance to Epidemic 'Breeding fast in poverty, infectious driving dormant seed...', plus I think to a certain extent Slayer used the opening riff to Mr. Freeze for the ending thrash part to Postmortem (4444 3333 6666 2222 4444 3333 6666 7777...). Those origionals from Jeff are pretty good too Can't Stand You and DDAMM(Drunk Drivers Against Mad Mothers   )

Stevie 01-07-2005 07:30 AM

Haha I didn't know that!

I have a few CDs like that - you never really want to hear them....

mysticalpotatohead 01-07-2005 07:34 AM

killing fields.....i just listen to that song for the intro.....

Stubb (a dubb) 01-07-2005 08:01 AM

Why do people like Dead Skin Mask, that song totally sucks.

Stevie 01-07-2005 09:50 AM

^^ ONe of the songs I switch off during.

I really only like ALL of the tracks on Slayer albums up to Reign in Blood.

Then I begun to dislike what they do on many later Slayer tracks with the vocals....for example the tracks:

Silent Scream
Live Undead
Behind The Crooked Cross

and so on

I just hate the fucking backing vocals.

Daven 01-07-2005 02:05 PM

slayer is awesome

James Van Halen 01-07-2005 02:39 PM
When the (attempted) the scream from Angel of Death, you know, THE scream, it hurt me to listen to it because its sooo bad. He can't hit ANY high notes now.
That's a scream?...Jesus...I thought it was just a long harmonic.

Chop Suey! 01-07-2005 02:57 PM

me too but then i listened closely, the ending gives it away.

CaptainWaits 01-07-2005 03:16 PM

I dislike almost all Slayer....and the only album worth listening too of theirs is "God Hates Us All", cuz Bostaph was the best thing that ever happened to them.
