I can: If he left with 10,000, you'd be like, "Oh, that's clever!" By leaving wtih 9,999, he took us by surprise and we'll remember it longer because we'll always ask ourselves, "Why didn't he post just ONE more time? The postcount he wanted, 10k, was only one post away!"

it also gives a sense of continuum. when you see a number with alot of zeros in int you think completion, the 9999 is a cool number because it leaves your brain begging for just one more

wow...seriously like looking back, i never really talked with quatre, but i always adored his work and respected him insanely and it was kinda like being hit in the face when i read his post
