anthrax was the first band i ever listened to and liked, they are the ****. one of the first bands to include both rap and metal in the same song. they are the best.

cheeser_1 07-27-2005 05:09 AM

that one guy has the pointy beard. i think it's funny. i saw him on celebrity rock&roll jeopardy. he and some 80s goth guy kicked ass, and the poor dumb drummer from no doubt finished with like -1000.

These are the ones I've heard and know are thrash, though some of those listed were just hardcore, not really thrash.

fluxofpinkmexicans 07-29-2005 05:16 PM

I think a lot of bands you guys have called thrash arnt. I am not an advocate of thrash, nor do I hate it, I really enjoy thrash but only if the(my) mood is right. I am an avid music listener and I discern the genre of the band when I listen to it, I don't listen to what other people call it, I don't even care what they call themselves half the time. I mean sum 41 called themselves punks.

an example of a band you guys called thrash are Machine gun romantics. I saw them live a while ago and have some of there music, I didnt consider it thrash once. its not even very good. does anything with screaming and power chords get called thrash? yes it does. but it also gets called hardcore, or, better yet, IS hardcore and NOT thrash. not all thrash has screaming, not all hardcore has screaming. theres really fine lines between all the punk genres.

you guys called D.R.I thrash, indeed there later stuff is thrash, but don't forget they're old stuff (dirty rotten ep/lp) is 80's hardcore.

also holier than thou? isnt very thrash, they're more hardcore. thrash sounds more like scholastic deth, uzi suicide and spazz.
there are also differences in thrash (yes I know, there are MORE genres)
stormtroopers of death are a good example of thrash metal.. not to thrash, not to metal.

but in the end. my opinion is that thrash is a stupid stupid STUPID genre. its like all the division of hardcore (post hardcore, melodic hardcore, NEW hardcore, 80's hardcore) there is even THRASH and HARDCORE THRASH and THRASH METAL! forget it!!!! sure a lot of bands are "thrashy" but cant they just stay HARDCORE, or PUNK, or METAL. jeez, there are so many bands that don't fit in any genre or even a combination of genres! catagorising a bands into narrow genres is an insult if not to them then to you. so many bands evolve or change. Gang green went from 80's hardcore (which originally went by the name of hardcore) to a butt rock band. The freeze (more 80's hc) became poppy as hell. DRI became a thrash band.

my ending statement and the overall point of this is to say:
everyone who listens to a band just because of there genre is an idiot. anyone who spends countless hours labeling bands is retarted. this includes myself because when I listen to a song I figure out what genres it belongs to and what bands must have influenced it.

but yeah, thrash is retarted.

Aight buddy, one thing, you're "retarted".

...and who ever said we were listening to these bands, soley because they were thrash? No one did, and there is a difference between hardcore and thrash, although alot of hardcore bands in the 80's verged on thrash, but weren't. Take, for example, Poison Idea, 80's hardcore masters, had really fast music, but were they thrash? no, they were hardcore, people understood that. You on the other hand, don't. Like I posted earlier, Heavy Metal+Hardcore=Thrash Metal, although Thrash Metal+Hardcore=Crossover Thrash. 80's Hardcore and Crossover thrash have always been really similar, but there was always that one guitar riff or change in speed that pulled 'em apart.

Oh, and why would we keep the genres at PUNK and HARDCORE, and METAL, when Hardcore came form Punk, why not just keep it at PUNK and METAL? How about that? We get assholes like ye in here all the time bitching about genres and whatnot, but no one cares they just straighten em out, and leave em be. Here's the usualy purpose of genres, if i told ye to go listen to Battalion of Saints (80's hardcore) and ye liked em, and than I told ye to go listen to Municipal Waste (crossover thrash), there would be a large chance that ye wouldn't like em, why? because of the slight change in sound. Thus we rip apart genres making more accurate genres so that people like you and I can find music that is similar to what we like, or even people who like similar music.

One last thing, what's with yer avatar? If ye hate thrash so much, why does skeleton have a flipped cap? Ye do realize that that kind of cap is usually found in the thrash scene right? Just thought ye'd like to know that.

i know, i was just poking fun at wikipedia.

also, "retarted" is a word. it's like, when you "tart" something, you put it into a tart. and if the filling falls out of a tart, and you put it back in, the filling is retarted. obviously, that's what the guy meant.

Nah, it's the bassist from Shark Attack on vocals. Those songs, along with another I found in their directory, are good, just not as good as Shark Attack.

smokersdieyounger 07-30-2005 06:31 AM

I know they are not strictly thrash, but they are more influenced by Exodus and other early Bay Thrash, than Death Metal, who likes At The Gates??

Plus Anders and Jonas Bjorler are in a thrash band now.

AA-12 07-30-2005 06:34 AM

At The Gates is great, but they are Melodic Death Metal.

I love thrash, but it's not my favorite metal, death metal/power metal is. I do love all the punk influence in it.
