i am thinking im waiting till i get my 6 string to do this stuff
I don't see why you'd need a 6 for this stuff though. Anything he's playing could be transposed and played on other strings. I plan to work on some of the techs on my four a bit later when I feel like practicing.

omg altering note positions?!?!?!?! who woudlve thought OMG i need to stop playing bass now.

dude i know you dont need a freaking 6 string to play that stuff, but it is easier and im getting a 6 in like a week anyway.

peeted 06-17-2005 10:34 AM

this stuffs much easier on a 4 string than a 6 string, double thumbing and poping is very hard wen your string spaceings about 11/12cm at the bit were u slap :(. btw iv only wached the aplication vid so far but its very impresive. some tabs would be nice if you have time, i know its beter to learn it by ear but some of us have revision to do
:(

there is no way i could tab out the application video, tabs take too long, i'd much rather explain what i'm doing, and my string spacing is 19mm just like a fender jazz

peeted 06-17-2005 10:38 AM

what i wouldnt give for that string spaceing....any ho no worys about tabs, it still gives a good idia of how to apply(sp?) double thumbing.

RideTheTiger 06-17-2005 10:45 AM
tabbing takes more time than you just asking and me telling
^___^
In that inversion excersie, you play 1,3,5,8? my ears are not too good :/

the 1 octave arepeggios, 1,3,5,8. 3,5,8,10. 5,8,10,12. 8,10,12,15

Ok thx but ..I don't know much about inversions :/ I thought u had an arpeggio and in the next inversion you move up one(the lowest?) note up an octave. With that arpeggio it would be 1,3,5,8 3,5,8,8 or something. Could you please explain the concept of inversion a little? unless it is to complex.

an inversion is a way to re arrange a chord for smooth voice leading.
lets take c major fopr instance
G
E
C
that it is in root position, now to invert it to 1st inversion you simply move the root note up one octave so the chord now looks like this
C
G
E
then keep on moving the bass note up an octave for more inversions
E
C
G

inversions are triads that start on a chord tone other than the 1. so in a chord you have th 1,3, and 5 well an inversion would have the 3,5, and 8(the octave of 1). i'm doing the inversions to their own octaves, 1,3,5,8. 3,5,8,10(the 3rds octave) 5,8,10.... and so on. then you can go back wards 15(2 octaves above the root) down to the 1 outlining each inversion

JamesXKillXyou 06-17-2005 11:07 AM

now i know how to tapp but... is it sounding ridiculously sucky and hard to do because my action is not low.... im still playing on my squire till my new bass comes in they said 2 weeks now.. but the action wont go low enuff... so its basically impossible unless you have low action cause its so low the notes and hard to do as well.

RideTheTiger 06-17-2005 11:28 AM

Another question.

In the double thumb movie after 1:50. When u do that wooten kind of playing over the pickup, is that normal plucking or double popping?

its a pop, but i dont get under the string, i pop from below the string. so its more of an agressive picking style that sounds like a pop
I'll post a wank-core double-popping video in a minute, I'm just gonna record it. Awesome videos quatre.

I have a double-popping lesson in the Lessons Archive with in-depth step by step technique and examples for anyone who wants to check it out.
Hey if you want i'll host it along with quatres. Just drop me an email on bob@dubyajoe.com or post it here and i'll upload it. (you'll probs have to use yousendit first).

Spaceman Spiff 06-17-2005 01:45 PM

Quatre, where did you get the finger ramp for your bass?

I was thinking of getting one and would like to know where I might be able to.

I had mine made by a local rapair shop

HaVIC5 06-17-2005 02:38 PM

I'm going to record one about the rhthym changes. It's actually more going to a be a show off vehicle for an audition piece of mine, but whatever. :p You'll learn something.

RideTheTiger 06-17-2005 03:33 PM

Quatre how long did you say you had been playing?

Spaceman Spiff 06-17-2005 03:57 PM

He's been playing about 2 years.

Kayetan 06-17-2005 03:59 PM

This one is pretty simple, but could someone make a video showing how to properly change the position of where your thumb rests (skipping from string to string) when playing fingerstyle as opposed to just leaving it on the side of the pickup? I still can't do it comfortably. Maybe just practice. Does it even matter?

StickNaving 06-17-2005 04:13 PM

There isn't really a standard anchoring technique for your right hand.

Some people like moving anchors, others (like myself) prefer having a fixed anchor. And of course there are the crazy people who don't anchor their thumb at all.

That said, a video on how to do a moving anchor still wouldn't be a bad idea for people who want to get into it. It just isn't necessarily the "correct" technique.

Spaceman Spiff 06-17-2005 04:16 PM

Ick, I don't anchor my thumb at all, it gets uncomfortable.

HaVIC5 06-17-2005 04:30 PM

Is yousendit working for you guys? Because whenever I try to upload this lesson, it craps out on me.

Foxfire 06-17-2005 04:34 PM

Try www.youshareit.com

Not sure if that'll work much ebtter, but yeah.

Kayetan 06-17-2005 04:34 PM

It doesn't work with AOL for me. It works fine with firefox though.

try rapid share, unless of course, your file size exceeds their limit.
